It took me about 4-6 months to stop feeling angry. Every now and again I still feel sorry for myself but I'm doing fine. I try to look at the bright side: celiac is a chronic disease but it can be completely controlled by diet. If I have to have a chronic disease, I'll take this one. Hang in there. What you are going through is normal.

ARCHIVED First Trimester Cravings- Celiac Complaints!ItchyMeredith posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders I am 7 weeks pregnant and have been faithfully gluten-free since June 07. It has NEVER been harder than the last 2 weeks. I can't tell you how much I wish I could just order a pizza! This is really tough. I know that there are gluten-free alternatives but I am too sick to cook anything from scratch. I am completely miserable and cursing celiac disease...

ARCHIVED Question About Breastfeeding And HoneyItchyMeredith replied to miasmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders From KellyMom- a site I really trust!!!! Can a nursing mother eat honey? Honey is not a problem for mom to eat. The gut flora of adults and children over a year old are able to fend off the botulism spores that may be present in honey, and render them harmless. Since the spores would be killed in your gastrointestinal tract, they would not make it into...

ARCHIVED Vegetarian Celiac With Nut AllergyItchyMeredith replied to finlayson's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Hi there! I don't have much advice on the flour topic. I would most certainly stop baking with the wheat one though and do some research about nut safe gluten free ones. There has to be some good ones out there. Unfortunately, the one I love is rice/almond. Food allergies can be so tricky. My son is allergic (with one anaphylactic reaction) to milk so...

ARCHIVED Parents With CeliacItchyMeredith replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs When my son saw Dr. Pietzak- a pediatric celiac specialist- she said that the best window is between 7 and 12 months while they are still breastfeeding. I understand that you are past that window but I just wanted to relay what she said.

ARCHIVED Could Undiagnosed Celiac Lead To Rage/mood Swings?ItchyMeredith replied to ItchyMeredith's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Wow- it does sound like gluten is the reason. Thankfully, he has never been physically abusive- but his ups and downs have been severe enough in the past to be diagnosed as bipolar. Since he doesn't believe in psychiatry though- he dismisses the diagnosis and any treatment. I was hopeful that he was going to stick with the diet. He is very self-disciplined...

ARCHIVED Could Undiagnosed Celiac Lead To Rage/mood Swings?ItchyMeredith posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease My father's bloodtest was negative but he went gluten-free/CF 6 months ago to hopefully help his reflux, rage, and mood swings. I have celiac, my son has celiac, and I am sure that his mother (my grandma) had it as well. His reflux did not improve at all but he has been much more psychologically stable (according to my mother and people he works with)...

ARCHIVED Post-partum Celiac?ItchyMeredith replied to ut96grad's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms ME! I had no celiac symptoms till I was 2 months postpartum with my first child. Suddenly I had DH something terrible. It lasted for many months but mostly subsided- even on gluten. I had another outbreak when I was 2 months postpartum with my second son. This is when we figured out that it was celiac. There is something about postpartum or maybe...

ARCHIVED For All The Gene Experts...ItchyMeredith replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I am a skin biopsy (DH) confirmed celiac. My 3 year old son has not had a biopsy and I don't plan to push for one because his Enterolab scores were VERY high. These were his genes: HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0201 HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 0603 Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 2,1 (Subtype 2,6) I am sure he got...

ARCHIVED If I Am Gluten Free- Why Would My Ferritin Be Low?ItchyMeredith replied to ItchyMeredith's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Joni- That's a good point- I don't know if my ferritin was the actual thing that was checked. Right when I got my diagnosis my doctor took my blood. When I got my physical this year the new doc looked back in my records and noticed that I wasn't anemic when I got my celiac diagnosis. That's all she said. That's really interesting- I wonder!

ARCHIVED If I Am Gluten Free- Why Would My Ferritin Be Low?ItchyMeredith replied to ItchyMeredith's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Thanks everyone for your response. My doctor wants me to take Slow Fe. I am already taking a prenatal because we are thinking of TTC again. Usually, the iron in a prenatal is enough. At first my doctor said that it can be normal for women to be low in iron because of menstruation- but that explanation doesn't work with me because I haven't regained my...

ARCHIVED If I Am Gluten Free- Why Would My Ferritin Be Low?ItchyMeredith posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I have been strictly gluten free for almost a year now. When I had my bloodwork done a year ago my iron levels were okay- though my bloodwork came back positive for the celiac antibodies. Now- the celiac antibodies are normal because I have been gluten free for so long but my ferritin is 13. What the heck? Does anyone know why that would be? Meredith

ARCHIVED Treating Dh While BreastfeedingItchyMeredith replied to jhow32000's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis I have a weirdo theory- I ate gluten through both of my pregnancies. I had no DH. When I was 2 months postpartum with both boys I was itching and blistering like crazy. Because your immune system is repressed during pregnancy- what if the crazy DH reactions postpartum is due to whatever cross contamination you may have gotten during your pregnancy...
