  1. It can be much milder than the pictures. Right now I have about 5 healing blisters on each knee and that's it. When it was at its worst I had probably 10 blisters on each knee, 10 on the top of each foot, 5 on each elbow, and 10 on each butt cheek. For me the blisters feel intensely itchy until the blisters start to heal. Luckily I am healing right now...
  2. One more thing: If you think it may be DH you should get celiac testing (If you had the rash you could simply get a skin biopsy)..people with DH have celiac and if you have had the rash and are still eating gluten you MAY be damaging your intestine and have no symptoms.
  3. Quick response...I have to run...I had this rash 2 years ago for about 6 months when my first child was an infant. It just went away on its own. It came back when I was 2 months postpartum with my second child. That is when we figured out that it is DH. Actually, I had a skin biopsy confirm it 2 years ago but for som crazy reason my dermatologist didn...
  4. You guys are making me hungry! I am shopping at a new healthfood store tomorrow. I can't wait to see what I find there.
  5. Where can you get Tinkyada?
  6. I guess this diagnosis has been harder on me than I have been willing to admit. I have been diagnosed and gluten free for 2 weeks. I have been outwardly optimistic about my ability to do this diet but I know there is an internal struggle because I have been such a witch to my husband. In my rational mind I totally understand that NONE of this is his fault...
  7. I have been a vegetarian for 16 years and gluten free for 14 days. I can only speak from personal experience and the experience of the vegetarians I have known. From what I understand (and what I have found to be true) a vegetarian diet with beans and veggies shouldn
  8. I used the non hormonal IUD Paraguard. I loved it!
  9. I just found out that my rash is DH so I can't tell you from personal experience. I just stopped eating gluten. But....I read that the average span of time is 12 weeks but it could be even a couple of years. DH is extremely unpredictible. The rash you have now could be from gluten you ate yesterday or many months ago. Check out this site: Open Original...
  10. OHHHH. That's a good explanation. I think that he is coming around. I showed him a site all about DH that explained how delayed the DH can be. I didn't know that the rash I have now probably is because of gluten I ate 3-6 months ago but could be from even a couple of years ago. If I ingest even a little gluten I could have a rash reaction many months...
  11. It looks like you can add the tostada and the southwest steak bowl to the list.
  12. I read somewhere that it can take 6 months to a year for a gluten free diet to clear up my DH. Is that true??? I am breastfeeding so I am going the drug free route (not to mention that I am allergic to sulpha) but I am anxious to get better. How long was it till your DH cleared up? Meredith
  13. Let me start off by saying that I have an awesome husband who has been (mostly) amazing through all of this. I would say that he is 95% supportive of this new diet but it is that 5% that I am really trying to work on. He for some reason thinks that because my celiac symptoms are dermatitis herpitiformis and only minor digestive discomfort that it is probably...
  14. I feel like I am one of the lucky ones because I got my diagnosis only 2 years after the symptoms started. I also feel lucky that my biggest issue (I think) is this rash. I am so happy to have caught celiac disease before I became truly and dangerously ill like so many of you have. It is amazing that I even got the diagnosis
  15. Thank you for your input. One more thing. He is rather skinny. I wouldn't say he is unhealthy but he is in the 50% percentile for height and 10% for weight. He was born HUGE at 9lbs 5oz and then tapered off to what he is today which is 26lbs at 28 months. His pediatrician isn't worried because other than the rashes he seems healthy. HHHMMMMM?
  16. What would you do??? I was just diagnosed as having celiac disease because of a skin biopsy that was positive for DH. I went gluten free on Saturday and I am amazed by how much better I feel already. I am still very itchy and the rash is just as bad as ever but I heard this can take a long time to clear up. What I mean when I say that I feel better...
  17. OMG Thank you so much!!!!!
  18. If anyone knows of any books or sites for gluten free vegetarians it would be much appreciated. Thanks Meredith
  19. I was just diagnosed on Friday with DH and therefore celiac. I am VERY new to all of this but I have one urgent concern. Is my breastmilk safe for my baby?? I currently breastfeed my 8 month old baby and donate my extra milk to HIV babies in Africa. I just let the milk bank know of my diagnosis and received the following email: "I have already received...
  20. Are you taking the ones with the extra DHA pill? I am not pregnant but I am still taking them because I am breastfeeding....and will probably be pregnant again in the next year (what can I say-I love babies!). Are Stuart Prenatal w/DHA gluten free?
  21. Did I read that even though celiac is passed through families the chances of passing it to your own children is only 10%? We think my grandmother (full Swedish) had it but no one has been tested in my family. She had life long digestive problems and died of stomach/colon cancer so it was probably her.
  22. I have DH and I have had only 2 episodes both of which occurred when I was exactly 2 months post partum with my babies. My first episode lasted until I stopped breastfeeding and my second one I am still having (I am still breastfeeding). I have Irish, English, and Swedish heritage.
  23. What about the military? Do they have gluten free meals in the mess hall? What about MREs?
  24. This is a really old post but JUST the information I was looking for. I am bumping it up to the front so others can find it as well.
