  1. Unfortunately, without knowing the reference ranges for the total IgA, you won't have a true picture of whether or not she is IgA deficient. If she is, the TtG IgA will not be accurate. In such a case, the doctor would have to rely on an IgG version of the TtG antibodies. We can't say for sure if she has it or not (we are definitely not doctors). It...
  2. Natural flavors can most certainly be a source of gluten. If it contains wheat, it must be declared by law. The same is not true for barley, rye or oats. Distilled alcohols and vinegars are rendered gluten-free in their processing, but some people report that they are sensitive to them nonetheless. It may be that your family is like that. It doesn...
  3. Looks like it is Chocolate Chex too. Here is an email someone on another forum I visit got from GM. The cereal aisle is starting to feel not so scary anymore!
  4. All Larabar varieties contain nuts. Here is a link to their website. Open Original Shared Link
  5. Every lab uses a different scale for measuring the results. It's hard to tell what those numbers mean without the reference ranges. Can you look at the results again and post the ranges? It will tell you what is positive, what is negative and what is in the equivocal range.
  6. A pdf file from 2005 does not a current source make. Because I am a glutton for punishment, I checked out some of the other information on the site you posted. Lo and behold, guess what I found? Open Original Shared Link So your own site that you posted recommends the biopsy. It states that the bloodwork is highly accurate, but does...
  7. Individual packets can be ordered from Open Original Shared Link
  8. Sticks and stones, my friend. I have posted 3 sources that say a false positive is possible. Being at a live lecture and giving us second hand information about what you heard is not adequate evidence to state that the biopsy is no longer a part of the diagnosis process. Be well.
  9. No, and that is not in question. A negative biopsy does not preclude celiac. Your statement was about the bloodwork and the fact that there can be no false positives. That is wrong. That is why the biopsy is done, in an attempt to confirm the bloodwork. Never have I said that a biopsy is the only way to diagnose celiac. Diagnosis is generally...
  10. Nowhere in your link does it state that the biopsy should not be done. In fact, on slides 19 and 20 it states that part of the diagnosis process is having the biopsy. The visual of the iceberg with regard to celiac and its related manifestations is not new. Will there be a time when the biopsy is not recommended? Maybe. But that time is not now.
  11. Listing hospitals is not the same thing as citing sources. How can we read the notes from the lecture if you don't provide a link? Clearly, from the links I posted above, false positives are possible.
  12. Unfortunately, Woody6, that information is incorrect. There are indeed false positives on the celiac bloodwork, specifically on the TtG and AGA IgG. Here are some links I posted in another thread earlier in the week. You may find them informative. Open Original Shared Link
  13. Did your parents have the genetic testing done? Some 30% of people in possess the genetics most common for celiacs. Very few go on to develop the disease. There is not enough information in your post to know where the disease came from in your case. If your family has not had the genetic testing, some or all of them may have the celiac-associated genes...
  14. If a celiac removes gluten from his/her diet, improvement to the villi can be seen in as little as 2 weeks. For some it may take years to heal, but for some it happens much more quickly. At this point, since you have been gluten-free for 6 months, your biopsy results will most certainly be skewed (presuming you had villi damage to start out with). ...
  15. All General Mills cereals that say gluten-free on the box are manufactured on dedicated lines. The cereals produced on shared lines do not have a gluten-free label. Not "sterile" in the strictest sense of the word (having to do with bacteria or pathogens), but free from gluten contamination.
  16. This was not directed towards me, but here is a link for you. Open Original Shared Link
  17. Add more chex flavors to the list. Open Original Shared Link
  18. Read this on another forum, and I am passing the word. General Mills has reformulated Corn Chex to be gluten-free. It is in BIG LETTERS on the front of the box. Watch out because we will be seeing both kinds on the shelf for a while. Open Original Shared Link
  19. Lately I am on a kick of having a sliced granny smith apple that has been schmeared with almond butter. I have had this every day for a while. So yummy. Other things I like to eat for breakfast are yogurt and fresh fruit or Bob's Red Mill hot cereal. My absolute favorite thing to eat for breakfast is cold, leftover quiche from dinner.
  20. We use the Kirkland (Costco) brand children's chewable multivitamins. They say gluten-free right on the bottle.
  21. Actually, that stuff happens from regular members all the time on this forum, and that is why I go so long between posts. It has less to do with moderators. If you have a problem with a particular member of the forum, add them to your ignore list. Choose My controls
  22. Open Original Shared Link I have consumed V8 with no ill effects.
  23. I have never seen regular Kix that did not contain oat flour, which would make it not gluten-free. Does it have a different formulation where you live? We have tried the Honey Kix that do not contain gluten ingredients. Is that what you are using?
  24. Welcome to the club. My son was diagnosed at age 6 also. It all seems like too much to deal with in the beginning, but before too long you will have things figured out. There are always details to be managed, but you will do fine. First and foremost - your daughter has a preliminary diagnosis. Generally, the diagnosis is confirmed with an endoscopic...
