  1. How many posts does one have to make before being considered "advanced"? I hate to be new - like to be advanced!
  2. I bought some of the Chebe no frills all-purpose mix last week because it was so much cheaper than buying the packaged mixes. It is basically a 20 pound bag of the all-purpose Chebe. Now I am panicking because I am afraid it will not come with instructions on how to measure it out to use it. Nothing like a crapload of Chebe mix and no idea how much it...
  3. Last time I was at the Super Walmart near our home, they had GFP chocolate truffle brownies on the baking aisle. It was a new packaging style I had not seen before. It was a hard box that tapers to a point at the top, but it is wider than the other hard-box ones. The graphic was also different, but the color scheme was the same as the other GFP items....
  4. Overweight and celiac can certainly coexist. See the study below Overweight in celiac disease: prevalence, clinical characteristics, and effect of a gluten-free diet (Oct 2006). Open Original Shared Link
  5. Here is my trigger/diagnosis story It started for me in 1987 when I was diagnosed with what was thought to be terminal abdominal cancer at age 16. I had 2 years of chemo and many radiation treatments on my abdominal area. They had to nearly kill me to keep me alive. The "D" started with the chemo/radiation and never went away. The DR said that my guts...
  6. Glad to meet someone else from Federal Way! I don't shop much at Marlene's because their prices are a little steep for me, but I do drop in their occasionally to check out their gluten-free section. Glad to meet the other Washintonians as well. I have been to Sunny Valley Wheat Free bakery before. Their stuff was fine, but a little expensive for us...
  7. I was diagnosed 2 years ago. I too was in a panic trying to figure out how I was going to pay for it all. We are a single income family (I work, my husband stays home with the kids). I can honestly say that our grocery bill has not increased much since diagnosis, and we keep a totally gluten-free house. I feed a family of 5 for about $250 - 300 per month...

    ARCHIVED New Celiac

Welcome to the gluten-free club! This diagnosis can seem like a daunting one, but, with time, it will become easier and easier. Has your doctor tested you for any underlying nutritional deficiencies? They are extremely common in one that has just been diagnosed. Some key nutrients you may be lacking are iron and B-12. Both of these can cause exhaustion...
  9. Children can be born with a genetic predisposition to celiac disease, but it cannot manifest itself until he/she is exposed to gluten. I'm glad your MD is considering gluten as a culprit. Many doctors have their heads in the sand about the subject. Not trying to threadjack, but several of you have mentioned that Gluten is present in breastmilk. It is...
  10. Currently, my kids enjoy: Health Valley Corn and Rice Crunchems, Barbaras Brown Rice Crisps, and Envirokidz Peanut Butter Panda Puffs. There are several General Mills cereals (little Einsteins and a Mickey Mouse one) that do not contain gluten ingredeints, but my kids were not wild about them. I liked them because I could get them in the regular grocery...
  11. I am new to this group. I was diagnosed 8/05, and my 8 year old son was diagnosed 11/05. We are from the Puget Sound area, between Seattle and Tacoma (Federal Way). I would love to meet any parents with kids near us. I am also considering starting a ROCK group, and would like to know if there is any interest. Just wanted to introduce myself and say...
  12. My son is 8.5. He has adjusted well to the diet since being diagnosed 1.5 years ago. Still, I would love it if he could meet some other kids with celiac. All the ROCK groups in the state are quite a distance from us, so I am considering starting my own group. Are any of you ROCK leaders, or have you ever been to a ROCK event? Did you and your child find...
