cruelshoes replied to confused's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Glutenease?
cruelshoes replied to Ginsou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Open Original Shared Link to many posts on Glutenease. At this time, there is no pill that will allow people who have celiac disease or are gluten intollerant to consume gluten. While I'm pretty sure it couldn't hurt you, I'm not convinced it would help, either. Believe me, if there was a pill that would let me eat Dominos Pizza, I would have it in my... -

ARCHIVED Bento Box Saves School Lunch! Onigiri Rocks!
cruelshoes replied to zarfkitty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have watched this thread with great interest. I foung the laptop lunches users guide at my favorite second hand store yesterday for only 50 cents. The lunch box wasn't there, though. Darn! I am going to spend some time with the book this weekend to see if this box will work for us. My son likes to lose his lunchbox a few times a year, so it is the... -
ARCHIVED Top Chef/hgtv Design Star
cruelshoes replied to Green12's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
One of my guilty pleasures is watching Top Chef. I love all the drama and the foofy food they turn out. I think we could use this show to promote celiac awareness. Here is my idea. One of the challenges should be to create a delicious, allergen free meal. The chefs get a whole kitchen full of stuff to create a delicious meal, but they have to do it without... -
I have 3 children. I had 2 pre-DX and 1 post-DX. THe 2 I had before my diagnosis were born prematurely (35 and 36 weeks gestation) and were small but healthy. I carried my post diagnosis baby to full term (38 weeks) and she was also healthy. My pre-diagnosis pregncies were very difficult but my post-diagnosis pregnancy was normal. I hope this puts your...

ARCHIVED Tostitos
cruelshoes replied to hollyres's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Did you happen to ask if this applies to the flavored products also, or just the plain tostitos? I have reacted to the touch of lime flavor before, so I am curious. Going to have to file this one away in my memory banks. -
ARCHIVED Campbell's Products
cruelshoes replied to Yellow Rose's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Campbells does not have a very long list of gluten-free items, but their labeling practices are very good. It is their policy to disclose all gluten ingredients, not just wheat. It is possible to get a gluten-free list from them, but those lists are obsolete before the ink is dry since formulations can change. Because of Campbells labeling practices,... -
ARCHIVED Edy's New Flavor
cruelshoes replied to amybeth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love that one too! I almost passed it by because it had the word "cake" in the name. I'm so glad I didn't. Also, FYI for anyone else on the west coast, Edy's is Dreyers over here. -
ARCHIVED The Ever Controversial Mcdonald's French Fry Thread
cruelshoes replied to saaa-wheat<3's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I allow my son to have the McDonald's french fries about once a month. I eat them about once a month also. Both of our antibodies are negative. We have never has a reaction to them. If we had a reaction or spike in our antibodies, I would not eat them anymore. It is definitely a personal choice, and I understand why many people do not eat them. It... -
If you have not tried sunflower seed butter, give it a whirl. It is really fantastic, IMO. I like it even better than peanut butter now.

cruelshoes replied to lindalev1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Trader Joes has both original and banana waffles. They say gluten-free on the front, but I do not know if they have the "produced in a plant with wheat" warning because I haven't bought them in a while. Maybe those would work for you. -
ARCHIVED Quick Easy List Needed
cruelshoes replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
McDonalds fries are gluten-free (see link https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-46107102850.a3). MOST locations use dedicated fryers, but some of the smaller ones do not, so you have to ask. ARCHIVED Why Is The Biopsy Necessary?
cruelshoes replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with your points. There is an inherent risk to any medical procedure that required anesthesia. For our child in our situation we accepted that risk. Not everyone's situation will be the same, and someone else could make a different choice for the child under their care. There is the chance of a false negative, to be sure. Many celiac experts... -
ARCHIVED Why Is The Biopsy Necessary?
cruelshoes replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A difinitive diagnosis of celiac disease generally consists of 3 things - positive bloodwork, positive endoscopy, positive results on the gluten-free diet. All 3 elements can have some margin of error or ambiguity with them. But viewed as a whole, they result in a medically documentable condition. We had a biopsy done on my son when he was 6. It was...
