  1. If you see Open Original Shared Link, you will get to the 2006 ROCK list. The 2007 list will not be out for a few weeks. this list should get you started, as it is quite comprehensive.
  2. We had an endoscopy on my son when he was 6. Honestly - it will be harder on you than it is on him. He was not able to eat anything after midnight, and we got to the hospital at 6 am for a 7 am appointment. They put him out with laughing gas, and then put in the IV while he was under. He freaked out a little from the feeling of the laughing gas, but it was...
  3. Those numbers are highly suggestive of celiac disease, especially the very high TTG. How many endoscopy samples did your GI take? Damage can be spotty, so if he only took a sample or two, he may have hit on a less damaged portion. Good luck on your gluten-free trial. The results of your dietary trial are just as important as the endoscopy, IMO. Results...
  4. I have to agree with Fiddle-faddle. I do not care for any of their breads. Much to heavy and dense, IMO. It is nice that they are easy to find in most health food stores around me, but I really do not like the flavor and texture. Their brown rice flour tortillas, however, are delicious. I hope you find a variety of bread that works for you.
  5. Open Original Shared Link that reccommends subbing milled flax seed for the xanthan in equal amounts. I haven't tried it myself, so I can't say how well it will work. Open Original Shared Link that recommends subbing unflavored gelatin for xanthan at a double measure. So for 1 T xanthan, one would sub 2 T unflavored gelatin. Open Original Shared Link...
  6. Sure I can - that's what I did. Just because I don't need to eat gluten to be healthy, does not make the autoimmune response that will result if I consume it less of a disease. Is a peanut allergy a disease? I would submit that it is, even though you do not need to consume peanuts to be healthy.
  7. Open Original Shared Link describes disease as: That describes celiac disease to me. So yes, it is a disease.
  8. I will tell you unequivocally that it IS possible to feel absolutely wonderful after being diagnosed with celiac disease. I went 18 years before I was diagnosed. I was clasically, drastically sick for most of that time. I went many years having to get fed daily through an IV just to survive. I had to be hospitalized and was near death from malnutrition...
  9. I have never seen Bi aglut in the Seattle area, and I have looked everywhere. I would love to hear about it if you find it. Whole foods or PCC have good selections of Tinkyada, which is great, IMO.
  10. I am bumping this topic because I ran across this email in my inbox today. I referenced it in my post earlier on this thread, but I wanted to post it in its entirety. Hope someone finds it useful.
  11. I replied to Open Original Shared Link. That product is owned by Nestle. They clearly label all the top 8 allergens (which includes wheat, as is required by law) AND barley, rye or oats. If you don't see wheat, barley, rye or oats on the label, it is a safe product. Case in point - Nestle butterscotch chips disclose barley in the ingredient list. they...
  12. What you are describing could be the Open Original Shared Link, which can cause fainting. We learned in a CPR class I took last year that the vasovagal reflex can cause fainting during a BM. Here is some info from WebMD. I remember when I had my first few solid BM's after my diagnosis, it was a bit of a shock. It had been 18 years since I...
  13. Many people have difficulty with dairy when they are first diagnosed. Have you eliminated that? When I first was diagnosed, I really could not tolerate much of anything. I had to do the RAB diet (rice, applesause and bananas) for a little while until my system "mellowed out" enough to eat more complex foods. Many reccommend a "naked food" diet at first...
  14. Open Original Shared Link for DF pumpkin pie.
  15. Open Original Shared Link is a Nestle product. Nestle clearly labels their gluten ingredients. If there is no wheat, barley, rye or oats clearly listed in the ingredients, there is none present. Hope this helps.
  16. Here is my bloodwork from my diagnosis in '05, including the lab ranges. I had total villous atrophy and was near death. TISSUE TRANSGLUTAMINASE, IGA (UNITS) 8/16/05 - 189.05 Lab ranges Less than 20 units ..... NEGATIVE 20 - 30 units .......... Weak Positive Greater than 30 units .. Moderate to Strong Positive Different labs have different...
  17. General Mills clearly labels all their gluten ingredients. All WBRO would be indicated on the label. I have eaten that product without reaction.
  18. Unless it gets added to the list of emoticons "show all", I don't think you will be able to. I right-clicked on the green guy, and got the following code: http://www.glutenfreeforum.com/style_image...icons/icon8.gif So all the emoticons are really .gifs that the board substitutes for a series of keystrokes (ie is really : lol: - the board has logic...
  19. This was posted over on Delphi yesterday: Open Original Shared Link
  20. There is currently no treatment for celiac disease, apart from the gluten free diet. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease. Benadryl is an antihistamine. As celiac disease is not a hystamine reaction, I don't think it would have any effect. Believe me, if there were a pill that would help fix my celiac disease, I would know about it, and be first in...
  21. I haven't had much luck recreating chebe from scratch. If you do come up with a recipe I'd love to hear about it. I have been ordering the "No Frills" Chebe mix. It is the chebe mix in bulk instead of the individual packages. You have to measure it out, but that only takes a second and it is about half the price of the packages. If you are interested...
  22. Is your machine programmable? gluten-free bread only needs one rise. It does not need to be punched down and rise again like gluten bread. To increase the chance of success, it would be great if you could eliminate the second rise. That can definitely impact the end product. I would check out your machine's manual to see if you can do that. Secondly...
  23. Is this the one? Open Original Shared Link Two part white rice flour Two thirds part potato starch flour One third part tapioca starch My favorite pie crust recipe is the "perfect pie crust recipe" Open Original Shared Link. I just made a batch this morning to have as a quiche for dinner.
  24. We use Kraft caramels with no problems. I need to buy some since it is getting to be caramel apple season. On a side note - Brachs caramels, however, we will not use because of their crappy labeling practices and refusal to say if any of their candy is gluten-free.
  25. Got a response from the company confirming their gluten-free status. Great response from them, and they got back to me within 12 hours. I think I will be indulging my Sixlets craving more often.
