  1. Hi, k-kitkat. Glad you found the board. I have posted some support group locator links below. Maybe there is one in your area. It is great to have gluten-free friends here in cyberspace, but it is also nice to know some people in person. Hope we can all help each other out on this gluten-free journey. 2. Open Original Shared Linkto find out if Chebe is available near you.
  3. Glad you found a model that would work for you. My husband bought me my Kitchenaid for Christmas. Every time I use it, I remember how thoughtful he is. Your wife is a lucky lady.
  4. -Absence of symptoms is not the same thing as absence of reaction. One does not need to feel it for gluten to be doing his/her body harm. -Celiac symptoms can change over time -If one goes "Gluten-lite" it can take a while before the immune system reaches its tipping point and causes a reaction that you can feel. -In some people, the reaction is...
  5. It means "quinoa flakes" or "rice flakes". Rice flakes is also known as Open Original Shared Link. I have never been able to make poha work very well in cooking, so I would stick with quinoa flakes or certified gluten-free oats if you can. Open Original Shared Link are steamed, rolled, and flaked quinoa. If you were to run quinoa through your...
  6. Youch - shingles! Been there, done that, and it's no fun whatsoever. I couldn't find valtrex on either of these lists: Open Original Shared Link or Open Original Shared Link. Below is a link to Glaxo if nobody else has any information. Open Original Shared Link
  7. I generally buy the all-purpose mix. It is great for pizza crusts, breadsticks, rolls and sub rolls. I have thought about trying for a soft pretzel. I think it might work. If you roll it really thin, it makes a great cracker. If you really want to go crazy, check out the Chebe website for recipes - Open Original Shared Link.
  8. It has been my experience that my reactions to gluten get more severe the longer I am gluten-free. It has also been true for my son as well. He was asymptomatic when he was diagnosed. Now when he gets exposed to gluten, his reaction is swift and terrible. Kinda seems unfair, doesn't it? The harder we try to be gluten-free, the worse the reaction...
  9. I already posted this on a different thread, but I will post it again here. Open Original Shared Link
  10. Here is a list you might find useful: Open Original Shared Link Most things are very easy to find and inexpensive. If you are stumped for breakfast ideas, try thinking outside of the breakfast realm. One of my favorite things to eat for breakfast is a baked potato with cheese. Easy, tasty and cheap. Cold pizza or yogurt with fruit are also winners...
  11. Many times, powdered milk is added to a gluten-free recipe to increase the protein. Many of our flours are much lower in protein than wheat flour, and dry milk is a good way to make up the difference. Without seeing the recipe, it is difficult to generalize about what substitution is best. You have to know what the dry milk is intended for in the recipe...
  12. I made an amazing chocolate cream pie from the Open Original Shared Link. My SIL is lactose intollerant, so I used soy milk for the milk and Tropical Source chocolate chips. It was really good! I had never made a chocolate cream pie before, but it's really not that hard. I was pleasantly surprised.
  13. I have the 300 watt model with the 4.5 quart bowl. I have had it over 10 years and it gets almost daily use. I like it a lot. **BUT** If I were going to buy a new one, I would definitely go for the Pro model. The one I have is great, but it does not have the power or capacity to do double or triple batches like I want to. If I try to do a...
  14. I copied this off their Open Original Shared Link:
  15. Open Original Shared Link to my favorite apple crisp recipe. It is a great mix of pie and crisp. If you prefer not to use gluten-free oats, you can sub quinoa flakes.
  16. Quaker oats is not a safe option. Their products are contaminated with gluten grains. This is from the Open Original Shared Link It is now believed that most celiacs can tolerate some pure, uncomtaminated oats. Oats contain the protein avenin, which is technically different from the gluten in wheat, barley and rye. It is the gliadin in the wheat...

I don't drink, so I have no personal experience. But this link may be of help to you: https://www.celiac.com/articles/222/1/Glute...ages/Page1.html
  18. I will be there. Might have my kids in tow because my husband had a conflict. I am really looking forward to it!
  19. It used to be believed that distilled alcohol was a source of gluten. This is now generally accepted to be untrue. Vanilla extract is made from distilled alcohol, and is gluten free. There is still a lot of old information out there on the internet that says that vanilla has gluten in it. Vanilla extract is listed on the safe foods list here on celiac...
  20. Open Original Shared Link to my favorite pie crust recipe. I think you should be able to find all these types of flour.
  21. Would your DH be willing to go to a celiac support group meeting? I bet if you were to casually let it slip what DH has been up to, the other celiac moms would set him straight - and quick!
  22. I can't speak to being addicted to other things, but studies have shown that gluten has opiate effects. The link below relates to gluten ingestion and autism. The opiate effects of gluten may help explain why it is so hard for some people to give up. Open Original Shared Link
  23. That's the way I always do it. Hope it works out for you.
  24. Open Original Shared Link. It is really really REALLY good! I have served it to gluten eaters lots of times, and they have no idea it is gluten-free.
  25. Sorry you had such a hard time on the vegan diet. I hope remoing gluten from your diet is the key to good health. My SIL and BIL were both vegan for a while. They got reeeeeally preachy. It got to the point where we dreaded going to Thanksgiving dinner because we knew the lecture we were going to get over the turkey and mashed potatoes. Turns out...
