  1. Thanks for everyone's input. We made a trip to the dollar store this weekend, and picked up the finest they had to offer Sean picked all these things out - Most of them contain sugar. Each kid will receive a colorful bag containing the following: - Stickers - snakes and lizards, very boyish! - kazoo - guaranteed to make parents go crazy...

    ARCHIVED Changes

Since the change, I have noticed a difference in the way hyperlinks work. When I post a hyperlink, not only is it not blue (this was also true before the upgrade), it is not underlined. The underline will only show when I mouse over the text where I put the link. So now I have to hilight the text, make it underlined, and make it blue. Not a huge deal...
  3. Her eis a link to my favorite: Open Original Shared Link If you are using it for a no bake filling, you bake the empty crust at 350 for 10 minutes. Then fill as desired. If you are using it for a cooked filling, you press it into the pan, then freeze it, then put the filling in and bake. Happy baking!
  4. Sees candy does ship. Open Original Shared Link. I get my husband Sees candy every Christmas. I think he'd divorce me if I ever stopped. Their lollipops used to be dusted with flour, so I glutened myself with them right after my diagnosis. I was really happy when they changed the formulation. My work gets the volume discount too, so I get 30% off...
  5. Open Original Shared Link that relates to overweight and celiac. It is actualy the minority of celiac patients that present with the classic diarrhea and weight loss.
  6. We hate the mi-del ones. My kids call them hockey pucks! Kinni-toos are soooo much better.
  7. I had mine put in while I was already in the hospital, but I'm sure it could have been done as an outpatient procedure. It was not even placed by a doctor, it was placed by 2 nurses that had gone to some special training. They rolled a portable ultrasound machine right to my bedside. I don't know if one can reject the line. All it really is is an...
  8. You can have a wheat allergy and gluten intollerance celiac together, but they are not the same thing, and would not have the same symptoms. You would not be sent to a GI doctor as a result of allergy testing. You would have been sent to an allergist. The bloodwork that would have resulted in you being scheduled for a biopsy is the celiac panel. You...
  9. Celiac is not an allergy. It is an autoimmune response. Allergies are a hystamine response. A doctor would most likely not order an endoscopy based on allergy testing. Did he run the celiac panel or did he run allergy tests? They are not the same thing. It would be very helpful to know exactly what tests were run, and what your results were. A wheat...
  10. Open Original Shared Link helps explain the difference. Here are a few key points: * Gluten intolerance is an adverse food-induced reaction that does not involve the immune system. This is a reaction in the digestive tract that causes gastrointestinal symptoms. *Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition. Autoimmune disorders occur when the immune...
  11. I had a PICC line when I was first diagnosed becasue I had to to daily IV feedings. I had it for a month. I was in the hospital, and they did it right in my hospital room. It was in my left arm. They will numb the site and feed the line in using ultrasound to make sure they get it in the right place. The lidocaine hurt a little, but the PICC line didn...
  12. My son and I eat that product all the time without any reaction. Hope you get to the bottom of what is bothering youur system.
  13. I responded to your post about this subject over on Delphi, but I will respond here too. There is a recipe for Kolach in the book "easy gluten free baking" by Elizabeth Barbone. I have not tried it, but I love every other recipe in this book I have tried. She is the brains behind the gluten free baking and more website/newsletter. Open Original...
  14. You would go broke trying to keep up with gluten-free oats for this horse. Way wierd. On another note, we keep chickens, and I do know of people that keep their chickens in the house. They wear diapers that have to be changed every 6 hours or so. I can't imagine trying to keep up with THAT, let alone pounds of horse poop a day...
  15. I will tell you unequivocally that it IS possible to feel absolutely wonderful after being diagnosed with celiac disease. I went 18 years before I was diagnosed. I was clasically, drastically sick for most of that time. I went many years having to get fed daily through an IV just to survive. I had to be hospitalized and was near death from malnutrition just...
  16. Pilsbury clearly labels gluten ingredients (they are part of the General Mills family). Many of their frostings are gluten-free. You have to read the label to determine which ones are safe, but they do not hide gluten on the label.
  17. I use it 1:1 in any recipe that calls for any bisquick type substance. It is not a replacement for wheat flour, it is more of a baking mix. the Open Original Shared Link website has lots of good recipes, if you are interested.
  18. It is now believed that most celiacs can tolerate some pure, uncomtaminated oats. Oats contain the protein avenin, which is technically different from the gluten in wheat, barley and rye. It is the gliadin in the wheat, the horedin in the barley, and the secalin in the rye that are the real culprits for celiacs. Avenin in oats causes some celiacs problems...
  19. See this link: Open Original Shared Link The AAP published a study in the May 18, 2005 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. In it, it was reported that children that are prone to celiac disease have a greater risk of developing celiac disease if gluten in introduced prior to 4 months or after 7 months. These children were followed...
  20. The University of Chicago celiac disease program does not recommend a repeat endoscopy: Open Original Shared Link
  21. In the United States, if there is any ingredient derived from wheat, it must be declared on the ingredient label. Wheat is one of the top 8 allergens, and must always be listed clearly. It is required by law.
  22. Walmart, Albertsons and Safeway is where I have seen them recently.
  23. I hate that bread too. But don't throw it out. You can use it as breadcrumbs or cubes to stuff the holiday turkey with. It works well for that.
  24. Caramel coloring can contain gluten. But Post Cocoa pebbles is made by Kraft foods. They have a policy of clearly declaring any gluten containing ingredients on the label. If their caramel coloring had gluten in it, it would be listed. I have boxes of both Fruity and Cocoa pebbles in the house right now, and both are gluten-free. Trix was also gluten...
  25. I have toyed with the idea of making pasta, but haven't done it yet. If you have a Trader Joes near you, try their gluten-free pastas. They are quite inexpensive and very good. Also, many asian markets have a staggering selection of rice pastas that work very well.
