  1. I would be wondering about the size of the loaf pan, too. Can it make a 2-pound loaf? Anything smaller probably would not have enough capacity for a packaged mix. It also sounds like it could have been too much water. Does that bread machine have a gluten-free setting? What is the rise time?
  2. It's not out yet. It usually comes out the first part of October. Which is right around the corner!
  3. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I thought I was going crazy. I will have to be content with posts that have lots of links instead of pictures.
  4. Oftentimes I would like to add a picture to my post to illustrate a pont. But all I can seem to do is create a link the the picture I am trying to post. I can't get the picture to be displayed in the body of my post. Is there a trick to doing this? I have tried typing in the tags by hand or using the clickable menu, but both seem to yield the same results...
  5. Open Original Shared Link: Picture of Sixlets
  6. If you are wondering what that noise was it was the sound of me tearing in to a delicious package of SIXLETS! They still taste the same. Kinda fakey, all delicious. They are just chock full of sixlety goodness. Thanks for the info. You made my day. Who needs world peace when we've got sixlets???
  7. I want, no, NEED some Sixlets. The company is on the east coast and is now closed. I sent them an email, but I expect I will not hear back from them until at least tomorrow. Please make a girl happy by saying you have verified their gluten-free status and I can give in to this craving. I don't know why I like these, they aren't even real chocolate....
  8. Cheez whiz is a Open Original Shared Link. Kraft clearly labels their gluten ingredients. If there is none listed on the label, there is none present.
  9. I have had the bloodwork done on all 3 of my kids. They were 8, 6 and 1 when they had the bloodwork done. It only took a few minutes, and it was harder on me than it was on them. Maybe you could get your doctor to order you some bloodwork at the same time. You could have your cholesterol checked or something. Let your DD watch you getting the blood draw...
  10. My SIL is lactose intollerant, and I have a gluten-free recipe I would like to adapt so she could eat it too. Does anyone know of a DF sub for sweetened condensed milk? While we're on the subject, how about a DF sub for evaporated milk? I have some recipes that call for that too. Thanks in advance for any help.
  11. Diagnosis generaly consists of 3 elements (with some variations): -positive results on the bloodwork -positive results on the biopsy -positive results when removing gluten from the diet Doctors are notorious for ordering the wrong blood tests and often don't do them all. PLEASE get a copy of DD's bloodwork results and post it here for the real experts...
  12. I wrote letters to 2 local newspapers asking them to do stories on celiac. Other than that, I think I will eat some gluten-free brownies and celebrate a second chance at life!
  13. Open Original Shared Link baking powder says gluten-free right on the package.
  14. This is a good list. I would also add that since the size of the market into the equation. Manufacturers are unable to take advanage of "economies of scale" like they would if they were producing a higher volume. Also, they charge higher prices because they can. It is hard when one does not have access to a kitchen to cook from scratch. I have been...
  15. I only hated it for the first 3 days, until I started to see some improvement. After suffering for 18 years, I would have done anything to feel better.
  16. I don't drink, but I know it is not gluten-free. Sorry.....
  17. There is an article on food allergies/intollerances in the Seattle times today, with a link to several gluten-free recipes. Enjoy! 18. Question for the Laptop Lunch users: Consider if you will the lunch I packed for my son this morning: PB sandwich, cantaloupe chunks and chocolate chip cookies. How do the laptop lunches do as far as taste/smell go when you are packing a variety of different things? If I had used a laptop lunch, would his sandwich taste like a PB & cantaloupe sandwich...
  19. Me too. I am almost glad I was so close to dying when I was first diagnosed. It really gives me incentive to be true to the diet. I never want to go back to getting fed through an IV again!
  20. Oats contain the protein avenin, which is technically different from the gluten in wheat, barley and rye. It is the gliadin in the wheat, the horedin in the barley, and the secalin in the rye that are the real culprits for celiacs. Avenin in oats causes some celiacs problems, but not all. There is a small subset of celiacs that cannot tolerate oats in any...
  21. Open Original Shared Link candy corn is gluten-free. The Great Value brand from Wal Mart is marked gluten-free on the package, but it does not taste as good as Jelly Belly, IMO. Brachs is an awful company to deal with. They won't tell you if their products are gluten-free or not. Hate them.
  22. The best sugar cookie recipe I have found is posted Open Original Shared Link. I have used it countless times and fed it to lots of gluten eaters with no complaints.
  23. If you are a celiac, there is no safe level of gluten. No gluten ever, period. If you haven't already, I would suggest you read Dr Green's book: Open Original Shared Link. The problem with a little bit of CC here and a swig of beer there, is that those small exposures add up over time to be a lot of exposure. If you don't remove gluten from your diet...
  24. Cereals are made with mainstream oats, which are contaminated with gluten grains during growing/harvesting/storing. The only oats that are guaranteed to be free of gluten contamination are grown in dedicated fields and processed on dedicated equipment. To date, I don't know of any prepared product that is made with gluten-free oats. They are available as...
  25. Don't feel too bad - it happens to all of us at first. It was a sad day when I realized there was wheat in Red Vines. Oats are not considered one of the top 8 allergens (Milk, Eggs, Peanuts, Tree nuts, Fish, Shellfish, Soy, Wheat), so they are not covered under the new labeling laws. Manufacturers aren't required to bold or otherwise emphasize them...
