  1. Equivocal results are not in what is considered the positive range. It is possible to get elevated results on either the TtG and Antigliadin tests and have nothing to do with celiac (The antigliadin tests are the least sensitive test for celiac.) For you, it may be a matter of semantics because you are right on the line of being positive. If it were me...
  2. This comes up with great regularity on all the celiac forums. Look at the CSA statement in the link happygirl posted above. They have been independently tested, and there is no detectable gluten in the fries. You have more risk from the CC at the restaurant. You may choose to consume them or not. Open Original Shared Link Let me check the horse...
  3. Xanthan gum thickens in the bowl, while guar gum thickens in the oven. So the application you are looking to use it for has a great deal of influence over which one you choose. One would use guar gum more regularly in a cake (a pan to hold it up) than in a cookie, for example (flat on a cookie sheet) Guar gum tends to be less expensive than Xanthan. Many...
  4. I've read about that cure before, but have never tried it. Open Original Shared Link Calcium and Magnesium have eradicated my nighttime leg cramps. But if the soap trick works, more power to you!
  5. Many people gain weight after diagnosis. Before some celiacs are diagnosed, they have to eat lots and lots of extra calories just to maintain weight or keep from wasting away. If you think about it, when malabsorption happens, much of the nutrition from food just runs right through us. Pre-DX, I had to eat about double the recommended number of calories...
  6. Label reading lessons can occur from time to time. However, Nature Valley granola bars are not a safe product for celiacs regardless of whether or not they contain barley malt. Mainstream oat products have been shown to have serious cross contamination from gluten grains. For this reason alone, no mainstream product that contains oats is safe. https...
  7. Hi, freeswimom. There are quite a few good options in Federal Way. As far as Restaurants go, we have an Outback, McGrath's Fish House and Red Robin. I have not eaten at the Red Robin in town, so I don't know if they have a dedicated fryer for their fries. You might want to verify that part. There are also several fast food places that have gluten-free...
  8. It's not too late. PM me your contact information (email address, company name and/or website, etc). I can make sure an exhibitor packet gets out to you. I'm on the exhibitor committee too.
  9. I haven't heard about a scenario like this, but I will ask. Our next planning meeting is on the 28th. There are some scholarships available. There should be information on how to apply on the website.
  10. Open Original Shared Link The 2009 GIG conference is in Seattle this year the first weekend in June. As of today you can now register online at the link above. You can also click on a link on the registration page to see the class schedule. There are 2 tracks -beginning and advanced. There is also a track for medical professionals and one for teens...
  11. I have read these arguments against making ones home gluten-free, but I don't really buy them. It's a big, bad, gluten-filled world out there. Home is supposed to be a safe place. My son was diagnosed after I was. I made him a promise that he would not have to read any labels at home. If it is in our house, there is no gluten in it. He can relax, and...
  12. My then 6 YO son was found to have many polyps in his stomach when we did his biopsy for celiac. The Pediatric GI referred to them as Pseudopolyps, and said that they are caused in the seomach from the constant irritation of ingestion of gluten. She said they should go away when we removed gluten from his diet. She did biopsy them, and they were found...
  13. An article in the Tacoma News Tribune today. It's good to see articles about gluten-free dining options in the local press. Enjoy! Open Original Shared Link
  14. More Sillyville cross contamination! Get em girls! Make them all over until they look like Amy Winehouse on Monday Morning. I strayed from the cult due to lack of fundage, but now I am back. There are several new eyeshadow colors. This is not good. How can I justify needing more colors when I already have more than 50?!?!?
  15. None of the Pace products are gluten free anymore. All have been removed from the gluten-free list that Campbells will provide. Prego contains undisclosed barley in the natural flavors. Open Original Shared Link
  16. Make sure you are not using outline view. Right under the new posts button, you will see one that says "options" Choose Standard view to see all the posts (I can see all of them, and I don't even have special mod powers. ). Hope this helps.
  17. I remembered the name of the numbing cream - it's EMLA. Here is a link to the manufacturer's website. Open Original Shared Link I also wanted to add - if you do end up getting your kids tested, and their results are negative, it is not a negative for life. In young children (some say under 2, some say under 6) the tests are less likely to be positive...
  18. A cheek swab is only a test for the genetics. It is not a substitute for the full celiac bloodwork panel. 30
  19. What was the brand name of the millet bread? Several brands have been shown to have astronomical levels of gluten contamination.
  20. This link may be of use to you. Some of it relates to older people, but most of it applies to younger ones as well. https://www.celiac.com/articles/978/1/So-Wh...FACG/Page1.html We had an endoscopy done on my son when he was 6, and I would do it again. He was found to have many pseudopolyps in his stomach that could be directly attributed to gluten...
  21. Campbells is on my list of companies to hate right now. Cambells should no longer be considered a good labeler. From the lengthy discussons on Delphi, Prego products are no longer safe, because of barley in the natural flaors, which is not disclosed on ingredient labels. They do have a gluten-free list that they will send you if you ask for it, but it...
  22. Wheat germ is wheat, so no it is not safe for us. Sorry.
  23. Kinnikinnick Pancake mix is free of both gluten and dairy and is quite delicious. Open Original Shared Link
  24. Those recipes look great! Thanks for sharing.
  25. The free screening at the U of Chicago only tests the TtG. It really would only be of use if the test result were positive (yours is not). Since they don't run the Total IgA test, you won't know if you are IgA deficient. You may be in one of the following scenarios: - You do not have celiac - You do not have celiac, but have another form of gluten...
