  1. Hello, I have Interstitial Cystitis. When it started, I had pain nearly all the time and felt like I had to pee all the time. It felt like a UTI, but without bacteria present. Early on I followed the IC diet, which is more complicated than just avoiding acidic foods... there is quite a long list of foods to avoid, foods that are safe, and foods that may...
  2. Thanks for posting this, I've been avoiding the boosts. I also checked on their website and found this information in their FAQ: Open Original Shared Link . However, also note this FAQ item: "Allergen concerns? Although we are sensitive to food allergies and the special dietary needs of our customers and seek to accommodate your requests, please...
  3. I have been gluten free for a month now. I have not been diagnosed with celiac (bloodwork was negative), but am giving the diet a try to see if it helps. Yesterday the backs of both my ears started itching and by this morning there are lots of tiny bumps. I have been camping for the past week, and although I've been careful, it's certainly possible that...
  4. I am new to the gluten free thing, but twice now I have had what I previously thought were allergies, and both times it happened the day after my symptoms flared up (I thought I had been glutened). I get all stuffy and sneezy all of a sudden, and it can last for a few hours. The funny part was that the first day was the gas and bloating. The second day...
  5. The bladder issues are very familiar to me. I was getting UTI's about once a month or every other month. Then suddenly the cultures for them started to come back clean (no bacteria), even though I was having the same symptoms. It turned out to be a bladder condition called Interstitial Cystitis (but could have been other things too). If you are getting...
  6. Good point! I guess I shouldn't be that concerned since I haven't been feeling tired. The only time I feel tired is when I go to bed later than usual - I think this messes up my internal clock.
  7. I have been on the gluten-free diet for two weeks now, and I have not been sleeping well. I have always been a light sleeper, but now I am waking up during the night many times, feel like I am sleeping lighter, and I wake up early in the morning before my alarm. I don't really feel sleep deprived, but I used to sleep through the night without getting up...
  8. Oh this brings back memories of my Mom making popovers for me as a kid. I may have to try this. Thanks!
  9. Luckily I have a pretty supportive family. I've already gone through a couple of diet changes... first was for Interstitial Cystitis - had to avoid anything acidic, most fruits, coffee, tea, chocolate, preservatives, many spices, etc. Once I finally got that under control and could expand my diet to just avoiding the most acidic foods, my IBS symptoms started...
  10. I've had problems digesting any more than a little fat since I had my gallbladder out many years ago. Anything oily takes forever to digest and doesn't make me feel well. I cut out fried and fatty foods a long time before I started having other intestinal problems, and I wonder if they would have come up sooner if I hadn't.
  11. I discovered recently that MSG triggers migraines for me. Last time I ate at a Chinese restaurant (before going gluten-free), I'm fairly certain they used MSG, since I got a terrible headache afterwards and had intestinal problems as well. MSG can be a trigger for IBS symptoms. Now I avoid it completely. I've just heard too much bad stuff about it and...
  12. I've tried the apple bars and the berry bars and prefer the apple. They're pretty good, but not very big. The double chocolate brownie cookies are good too, but also very small (about 1-2 bites). I try to save those to have as a treat once in a while.
  13. Hmm, I have only been gluten-free a week, but I have been getting more headaches than usual. I've also been having a little trouble sleeping (waking up a lot during the night and waking up early). It's either stress or no gluten.
  14. I'm glad I found this thread - thanks! My office group is going to Chuy's next Monday for a birthday, and I was going to skip it, but maybe I can still go. Does anyone have any other suggestions about what to get there? Obviously corn tortillas, but what else is safe? I am also dairy free, so cheese is out. I don't eat red meat, but chicken and/or...
  15. Thank you both for your responses. Teacher, I think you're right that the gas was probably helping to move things along. But for me flatulence wasn't the problem, it was getting the gas to come out! The gas would stay trapped inside me for many hours, very uncomfortable and very noisy, and would prevent me from passing stool. Once the gas finally came...
  16. I started the gluten-free diet nearly a week ago, and my gas has definitely been reduced. However, I'm still have abdominal pain, and I think it's because I'm still constipated, even more so than before I started the gluten-free diet. I'm getting the same amount of fiber per day (about 35g on average), but my daily morning stool is not loose like it used...
  17. Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to go with the diet for now and see if I feel any better on it. I have another doctor appointment in two months, so I will talk with my doctor about the results of the diet then.
  18. I have been off dairy (and whey and casein) for months now. I'm also mostly off of soy (I react badly to large amounts of it - migraines, sleepiness, general ill feelings).
  19. Yeah I have thought about that. It's a lot of money though. I think I'm going to wait and see how the gluten-free trial goes first.
  20. Oops, that was a typo. The IgA should be: normal < 5.
  21. Thanks for the response. I am trying to do everything I can to be gluten free, but I'm just afraid of what will happen if I miss something or accidentally get cross contaminated or something. Since I'm still having symptoms, I don't know how I will know if that happens. I hope a two month trial is enough to see if gluten-free will help me.
  22. Okay, so I got the results in the mail and have them on paper now. The actual results are: Gliadin IgG 0.7 (normal < 10) Gliadin IgA 2.9 (normal < 2.9) TTG IgG 1.1 (normal < 6) TTG IgA 0.6 (normal < 4) They seem pretty negative to me, but without eating a lot of bread beforehand, who knows. I wish my doctor had said something. She...
  23. Well, I have been eating the same sushi for lunch once a week for many weeks, and I don't think I have had a problem with it before. I will keep that in mind though.
