  1. I just started a trial gluten-free period. I'm planning on doing it for two months and see if it helps me at all. I'm wondering what will happen if I miss any sources of hidden gluten, such as cross contamination or something in a medication. I'm doing my best to avoid all gluten, but it is of course difficult. Will I be able to see any results if there...
  2. I just started the gluten-free diet, and I don't know if it will help me or not. Yesterday I ate something that didn't agree with me. It was either the avacado and cucumber sushi (no soy sauce), which I think unlikely... or the 7 big fresh strawberries. I'm betting it was the strawberries. I don't generally eat a lot of fresh fruit at once, so maybe my...
  3. Does anyone use the St. Ives Apricot Scrub and do you know if it is gluten free? It has some plant extracts (corn, walnut shell, some flowers), but nothing that looks like wheat or gluten to me. Does anyone know for sure?
  4. Thank you, I will try calling the company.
  5. I don't think I'm quite ready to start mixing my own flours... unless gluten-free turns out to be a permanent thing for me. I'm doing a trial right now, so I want something easy, lol. I'm looking at Pamela's "Ultimate Baking & Pancake Mix" on Amazon (link not working), and it says it has buttermilk in it? Is this the mix that you two are referring...
  6. The label doesn't say, and I can't tell from the ingredients. Open Original Shared Link Any help is appreciated!
  7. Does Bob's flour have soy flour in it? I don't eat soy.
  8. Thank you all! I'll give Bob's a try then.
  9. I have made a sugar free, dairy free pudding with Almond Breeze, and it tastes great. 1 1/2 cups unsweeted Almond Breeze (any flavor) 2 tbsp cornstarch Your sweetener of choice (I use stevia - 2 packets) Any additional flavoring (with plain Almond Breeze, I have used vanilla extract, cocoa powder, or even some canned pumpkin with cinnamon and nutmeg...
  10. I'm new to gluten-free, and I'm looking for a good all purpose flour I can use in muffins and pancakes and such (from scratch, no mixes). I'm open to suggestions, let me know what you like! I shop at Whole Foods, so something I can buy there, like Bob's Red Mill or Arrowhead Mills, would be best.
  11. I just started gluten-free yesterday, so Whole Foods is great for me. It's close to home, and has lots of choices for me to try different things out. I shopped at Whole Foods before this to get dairy free and soy free stuff. Yes it can be a little pricey, but for me it is worth it for the convenience. If you know what you like and don't mind buying in...
  12. Soy gives me migraines, makes me very sleepy and lethargic, and just overall makes me feel ill. I do okay with a little soy milk or some soy lecithin in something, but with anything concentrated like soy protein powder or a veggie burger it is really obvious. I mostly try to stay away from soy altogether (except for a soy chai latte once in a while or something...
  13. Thank you, that sounds like very sound advice. I was definitely not eating that much bread (or the equivalent). Incidentally, I have a followup appointment with my GI in two months, so if I go gluten free, then perhaps I will have something to talk to her about by then. A diagnosis would be nice, but really what I want is to feel better. If the gluten...
  14. My bloodwork came back negative, and I called my doctor's office to get the actual numbers. I am also being mailed the results. IgG 0.7 (normal < 10) IgA 2.9 (normal < 5) tTG IgG 1.1 (normal < 9) - not positive this was IgG, the nurse was talking very fast The problem I see is that before the test I really hadn't been eating much that...
  15. Wow, you just described my symptoms almost exactly! I am 28, female, and was diagnosed with IBS last year. I have been following the Eating for IBS diet on Open Original Shared Link, but my symptoms seem to have only been getting worse. I too have horrible bloating and gas. I am constipated during the day, but after the gas gets through, every morning...
  16. Splenda can irritate the digestive tract too. Stevia is a great alternative to Splenda. It is an extract from a naturally sweet herb. You can find it in the supplement section of health food stores.
  17. This is a very interesting thread. I was diagnosed with IC a year ago, and not long after I was diagnosed with IBS. However, recently my intestinal symptoms have been getting worse and I am getting tested for celiac. It would be interesting to discover if there is a connection between the two. The cause of IC is unknown, but some suspect it may be autoimmune...
  18. I guess all I can do is try it and see how I feel. I also want to see exactly what my blood test results were. If the letter doesn't have the actual numbers (and I suspect it won't), I'm going to call the office again and ask for the numbers.
  19. Thanks for sharing your experience! I have been reading about how many people test normal and yet feel so much better after going gluten free. I was diagnosed with IBS nearly a year ago, but a few months ago my symptoms started getting worse, and the past few weeks have been almost constant abdominal pain. It would make sense if gluten is causing it since...
  20. Thanks, I figured they should have had some results by now. I called the office and it turns out they mailed me a letter a few days ago. The nurse said the results were normal. Maybe the letter will have more details. I may try going gluten free anyway for a week or so just to see if it has any effect. I've already cut out so many other things...
  21. I got tested for celiac a week ago when I went in to my GI doctor. It was the celiac sprue blood panel (or something like that). Does anyone know how long I can expect to wait for the results? I am of course very anxious.
