I have been told it is really helpful to have the support group. I have been able to attend only one meeting (I am a full time grad student and my classes are in the evenings!) However, at the one I did attend they had a guest speaker I found it quite informational. I'm sorry...I really don't have any other Dr recommendations for you.

Hey! I live in Denver and currently am not super happy with my Dr. However, I did get this recommendation from one of the leaders of the local CSA group: "The best gastroenterologist that I know, is Dr. Nuzhat Iqbal, she is located at the Longmont Clinic. Her phone number is 720-494-3123. Nuzhat is one of the most knowledgeable physicians I've ever met...

ARCHIVED Bubbles
powerbraid replied to Anthony22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I always have "bubbles" and gurgling in my tummy. And yeah, sometimes up and down my sides too. I have been gluten free for almost 2 years now and it's still there. I am obsessively careful about what I eat and I know that I am not being glutened every day. So, like was stated above, perhaps it is just too much fiber? I eat a lot of fruit and veg. Your... -
ARCHIVED Maybe Apple Ceo Steve Jobs Has celiac disease?
powerbraid replied to Bill in MD's topic in Publications & Publicity
Wow. I just read this story and totally agree. It was my first reaction. I doubt anyone can just "email" Steve Jobs, but I'm highly suspicious he has Celiac. -
...there is hope. I have been gluten-free for about 18 months, and only within the past 4 months have started yogurt again. Just this week I have been making Chai with goat milk, and seem to be doing ok with that. I do think that it might be necessary to give your intestines time to heal. I know mine are still on the journey! I have also...

ARCHIVED Reintroducing Dairy
powerbraid replied to Billygean's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My tummy doesn't do well with cow's milk, but I'm having good luck with goat's milk yogurt and kefir. I'd give that a try if cow's milk is troubling you. -
ARCHIVED Vitamin Code?

ARCHIVED Vitamin Code?
powerbraid posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi all! I was just wondering if anyone has tried the Vitamin Code vitamins made by Garden of Life? They say they are gluten free. However, there is Alfalfa grass in them......is this ok for celiacs? Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Celiac Librarians
powerbraid replied to jparsick84's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hello to my fellow Celiac Librarians! I'm a graduate student in Library Science too! I work in an Academic Library right now, and my office is kind of the "breakroom" too......somehow I have been designated the one to "clean up" after eveyrone else (involving lots of CRUMBS!) because it's also my office. Kinda happened by default.....boy do I wash my... -
I have been having some of the same reactions to quinoa......tummy discomfort and diarreha, mainly. However, buckwheat seems ok. Do you guys handle buckwheat ok too?
-
I think I am sensitive to carbs too. After I was diagnosed and went off gluten, all of a sudden, I couldn't handle rice/corn/quinoa etc.... I just recently have reintroduced dairy (only in the form of goat's milk yogurt and kefir) and seem to be doing ok with buckwheat and quinoa. It's extremely frustrating!
-
yeah, I have. Dairy doesn't bother me. In fact, yogurt and kefir are great for my tummy! But, yeah, soy I definitely have problems with and I don't eat it at all....
-
Hi - I was diagnosed with Celiac 1 year ago. The gluten-free diet isn't seeming to totally clear up the diarreha and I am having a "tight" feeling in my lower right abdomen. From what I can figure out, where the illium is? Does anyone else have both Crohn's and Celiac, and if so, what were your symptoms. My Mom has Celiac, and I have an Uncle with...

ARCHIVED How Long For Intestines To Heal?
powerbraid replied to JustJust's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It has been 1 year since my diagnosis, and I am just now beginning to feel "healed" although I also feel as though I have a long way yet to go. However, now I can eat/digest dairy and meat again! yay! Patience.....patience..... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Still Have Grumbling On Gluten-free Diet?
powerbraid replied to mbj2217's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hey! I have been gluten-free now for almost 1 year exactly. My tummy still "grumbles" occasionally. But, it doesn't happen as frequently as it once did. So, I think my intestines are still healing. Don't worry, I think it's "normal" in the healing process. -
ARCHIVED When Celiacs Start Feeling Better
powerbraid replied to jjtj's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I felt amazingly better right away initially after going gluten-free. However, then I started feeling worse. I think it may have just been my body changing and adjusting. I had to go off soy and dairy. I am back to eating yogurt again now, and doing well with that. It's been almost exactly 1 year after my diagnosis. All I can say is that it is definitely... -

ARCHIVED How Many Of You Had To Avoid Dairy At First?
powerbraid replied to Hummingbird4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
yup - I had to eliminate dairy for about a year. Now, I am just starting to eat yogurt again, and cottage cheese, and all seems to be going well. There is hope! -
ARCHIVED A Year On...?
powerbraid replied to bobjonson4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed September 2007, and this past year has been the hardest year of my life. It was almost like I felt WORSE after going gluten-free! I had to cut out diary and soy and ALL grains for the good part of the past year. Finally, I seem to be doing well with yogurt (it makes my tummy happy!) and grains such as buckwheat and amaranth. however, corn... -

ARCHIVED Inability To Properly Absorb Water?
powerbraid replied to Woolygimp's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm not sure if I have the same problem, but I too am ALWAYS thirsty. Then, I discovered Coconut Water. It really seems to help. I use O.N.E. and Amy & Brian's Coconut Water, and they are both gluten-free! -
So, then if Bee Pollen is not gluten-free, is honey "safe" to eat for celiacs??? Just wondering!
