ARCHIVED Gluten-free Homebrew Beer
bakingbarb replied to WayneB's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wayne, the second beer we made we used Amarillo hops, they are the child of Cascade. Floral aroma. I wanted something not as bitter. This beer is in the first bucket and looks darker, we are hoping for a nut brown but don't know yet. We used more syrup for this batch and boiled "grains". We used toasted buckwheat and malted amaranth. I malted it and it turned... -
ARCHIVED Need Cold Lunch Ideas To Eat On The Run
bakingbarb replied to Redsd's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am in the process of looking for a job so I was wondering also what could be taken for lunch. UGH I hate to even think about getting a job as the last one was such a nightmare. BUT not being hungry will help -
ARCHIVED Teenage Daughter
bakingbarb replied to bakingbarb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Susan, thank you. We have a pretty good relationship mostly, so I think we should be able to work together on this. Your attitude has got to be the way to go. IF I were negative with her about it, she would go the other way. It seems the malabsorption would convince my daughter also. She knows I worry about it for myself and she doesn't want the same... -
ARCHIVED Advice Re: Daughter
bakingbarb replied to fjnt's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This helped so much and thank you for rambling, I do it too! I was thinking about the enterolab for her. Proof would probably do it for her. I think I could change what she eats at home greatly if I can get her to try and eat the pasta. It is what she eats all the time, daily if not twice a day. She had blood tests done when she was 7 because she was... -

You have a lot of really good thoughts on this. I am glad you posted the info you did.n What you talk about is exactly what I think. Espresso cafe with all the trimmings, yummy things to eat. Not sure about pizza but I think quiche for sure but men are not keen on quiche so there has to be something that appeals to them. Big cookies, muffins, scones, bar... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Homebrew Beer
bakingbarb replied to WayneB's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wayne I have brewed 2 beers this way. The first recipe we used 7 lbs Briess. This time we used 9 1/2 lbs. Check out byo.com for a gluten free recipe, that is where I got mine. We made the first recipe listed as is. Kinda weak. That is why the second recipe we used more syrup. We mixed up the hops. I am on my laptop and it takes me too long to type... -
ARCHIVED Barbecue Sauce
bakingbarb replied to Octoberme's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Can you have the agave nectar? I don't really know if you can or not from what you said so that is why I asked. Same with apple juice, the concentrate is wonderful for this type of sweetener. Knudsen cherry juice? Dried apricots. I actually have a sauce recipe and I bottle it but I used fresh apricots or peaches that were super ripe. It sweetens the... -
ARCHIVED Advice Re: Daughter
bakingbarb replied to fjnt's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Fedora, thank you for telling this. I know she isn't happy with her health but she is a very smart independent thinking young lady. I raised her to be that way. When she is on her game so to speak she is a very easy young lady to deal with and we make decisions about her life together. (she takes an antidepressant, if she doesn't we don't deal with each... -

ARCHIVED Barbecue Sauce
bakingbarb replied to Octoberme's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
A really good homemade bbq sauce is from Gourmet mag years ago, I can't find it online anymore (I probably have the copy somewhere!). It is ..... 1/4 cup soy sauce, gluten free 1/4 cup yellow mustard, gluten free 1/4 brown sugar 1/2 cup ketchup, gluten free We have used this for years and I always play with it, you can add ginger, garlic, lemon or... -
ARCHIVED Teenage Daughter
bakingbarb posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have Celiac. I have 3 kids all of which I think have Celiac also. My sons are young adults and agree that they might have it but they are not dealing with it at all yet. I keep working on them both because they show some classic signs and one of them stopped eating wheat for 2 weeks and felt 100% better. My daughter is a teen and I think she has it... -
ARCHIVED Flour Help Needed
bakingbarb replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Where we are, there has to be a separate kitchen, it must have its own sink, fridge, oven, etc and be shut off from the rest of the house, only an outside entry, and it must have its own bathroom. That took my house out of the running. -
Open Original Shared Link This is not surprising but then again I was a bit surprised.

ARCHIVED Flour Help Needed
bakingbarb replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sarah, thank you for answering. I too was thinking making my own blend. I pretty much use a blend for everything but add other flours in depending on what I am making. I am very much liking the coconut flour but all of this can be so spendy, that part worries me. I did see Bob's Red Mill does wholesale but I don't know how much you have to buy to be wholesale... -
ARCHIVED Flour Help Needed

I may have an opportunity in front of me. Too soon to know for sure but I need to be prepared just in case. If I were able to open a cafe in the near future...... I have no idea what flour blend I should use or who would have flour blends at wholesale. Or what a reasonable price is. Or should I just blend my own!!!! -

Wouldn't that figure. I love the chocolates but if they are Hershey now then I will probably stick with Open Original Shared Link. They are gluten free, as stated on the website. -

ARCHIVED Gourmet Chocolate
bakingbarb replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Scharffen Berger is da bomb! Wonderful chocolate but quite spendy! I refuse to buy Hershey brand any more for any reason. If they are going to hide what might or might not be safe then I won't buy them for any reason. I respect when a company says it was processed on shared facilities. I don't like it but I respect it. One company goes so far on their... -

I will be looking for these chocolates today. I enjoy all kinds but when I want a craving filled, it is for creamy but full flavored chocolate. ARGH I will have to go look soon! LOL -
I am so glad I researched this and it led me back here! LOL the place I find all my answers and it doesn't cost a thing. She sent an email out offering all kinds of free stuff but the way it is worded is high pressure. It is very pushy but I thought I would post it here so everyone else can see for themselves. It feels like she (or whom ever this person...
