  1. My non-physician opinion is that vomiting can irritate the stomach like that, although the fact that it is in the lower stomach is concerning. Did the doctor look at her intestines today? If not, has she had any constipation? And, have you noticed any rhyme, reason, or pattern to the vomiting?
  2. Very happy to hear it helped!
  3. When the B12 level comes back, discuss with your physician the actual level - there is controversy surrounding the defined parameters. Many people have demonstrated symptoms that are relieved by B12 when their levels are in the low normal range. I believe the normal range is 200 - 1200 whatever units, variable slightly depending on the lab technique. ...
  4. I would be ecstatic if someone could give me links to info on gluten getting into milk. My curiosity is piqued. Jewles - how long have you been gluten free? If it hasn't been long and/or you had a very extensive amount of damage you may just not tolerate hard to digest things yet. I have read it can take up to 6 months, some on this board have posted...
  5. Supportive husbands are the best. I have read in a few places that a response to the gluten-free diet is half the diagnosis. My own physician told me he did not think the tests available are sensitive enough, as I haven't been officially diagnosed either. Of course, doc mentioned this after I paid him over a grand...
  6. What an accomplishment Lori! I think it would be great if you could help everyone here by experimenting to find out what sort of precautions help you from getting glutened. I think lots of us would love to know what really works! I'm firmly believe there is a way around everything.
  7. Understandably so!
  8. You're right, I must've been thinking about the excess. Thanks!
  9. I didn't mean to "slam" you. Obviously I hit a nerve with you, as you did me.
  10. Goodness gracious there are lots of low-carb/no carb believers here. It's a mighty quick ticket to get diabetes and end up in a coma. I wish they counseled as many people that ended up in the hospital from those crazy diets as I have. ....and I'm done ranting... Weight-loss surgery! Gastric by-pass is absolutely not a good choice. However, I understand...
  11. Great tips for weight loss Rachelle. As far as putting on that much weight in two weeks....the culprit is likely fluid retention. Sometimes in a weight loss getting a little off track can cause fluid shifts in your body, so when you've actually gained 2 or 3 real pounds, your body has held on to 6 or 7 fluid pounds. If you don't believe you've been...
  12. I could believe a diet too low in fats is not a good thing. I'm a huge proponent of all foods in moderation and eating what makes you feel your best...and chocolate...sometimes . A growing speculation of scientists is that sometime in the near future, we will realize one diet doesn't fit all. I think lots of people have jumped ahead of that and started...
  13. So, did your dietitian explain why he's restricting your carbs? It seems odd to me.
  14. And I forgot, veggies are pretty much considered a free food if they have no fat added. Technically they aren't, but they are so nutritious, filling, and fibrous that they are the last thing that will sabotage your diet. Eat as many as you want!
  15. I completely agree that you should know a person's height and weight before you decide how many calories they need. Age is a factor also. However, 1200 is about as low as anyone should go - any lower and it becomes difficult to get the nutrients you need. Just doing a quick add up in my head, I would guess the above meal plan is closer to 800 calories...
  16. That's really smart, all the same elements - glucose, potassium, sodium, plus fiber and it's real food. Wow. Great idea.
  17. I think your articles are scientific enough to be scary, but not scientific enough to be right. Ketosis is synonymous with starvation. I suggest you research Refeeding Syndrome as well as Diabetic Ketoacidosis. Ketones are toxic to your system. I have seen too many people in comas from this very molecule.
  18. Glucose promotes sodium and electrolyte absorption. Why, I'm not sure, gotta read up.
  19. Water absorption takes place in your colon, which is extremely rarely, if ever, damaged in Celiac disease, as far as I know... However, if you have malabsoprtion problems, this is another story. The things you're malabsorbing actually create an osmotic environment and pull water out of your body to try to balance out what is in the intestine. Try Pedialyte...
  20. I'm sorry to make you uncomfortable . If you feel like everything is OK it probably is. Try the foods I mentioned and see if they help. Also, if you feel like it might help, you can look into psyllium fiber or metamucil.
  21. It's interesting that the doctors told you that you are too young, the typical response is that adults are too old to have Celiac. However, most professionals know now you can have it at any age. You were right to try the diet. A little secret - feeling better on a gluten-free diet is half of the diagnosis. I will caution you against fruity pebbles...
  22. Ah. Well the bright side is that fig bread is probably going to be OK for you. On the flip side, I don't know why you are having problems with digestion. You might follow up with a physician. There are medications such as Reglan that can help your stomach and intestines move a little faster and in essence "wake up," but you probably need to find out if...
  23. "C" and "D" are funny things. Typically, with the same diet prescription, some people experience one, some people experience the other, and some alternate. Also a funny thing is fiber, because it helps both. For "D," I would recommend bananas, applesauce, and plain rice. Something else that can only help is Pedialyte (please don't do gatorade!!). The...
  24. To the best of my knowledge, I cannot think of a physiological response between sugar and fiber that would cause this. You are doing great with your fiber, that's awesome that you get so much. My ears pricked when you mentioned Pancreatin. I had to look it up on the internet as I haven't heard of it. Are you having trouble with producing pancreatic...
  25. Hey tkm, I'd also love to welcome you. It is very overwhelming to be diagnosed with a new condition, especially one that involves so much responsibility from you versus a healthcare worker. The good news is many people have worked through this, I am confident you can also. Congratulations on a baby! I know you said your little one is 15 months already...
