  1. some soymilk (edensoy, and possibly others) even has wheat and barley ingredients, as does rice dream! geez, why is it so tough to deal w/ celiac plus other intolerances? although for me it's only dairy, soy must be really awful as it's in everything...

    ARCHIVED Corn Chips

I've never encountered gluteny corn chips- I consider those my "safe" foods at parties. However, it is entirely possible that they could have contained soy, either as a preservative or they could have been fried in soybean oil. Same is true of the nuts. And of course, CC's always an issue especially at parties!
  3. Don't say "increased risk". Say it WILL give you cancer, make you malnourished, and lead to a whole host of other problems. Essentially, eating gluten when you have celiac is slowly killing yourself. The diet can be overwhelming if you're not familiar with it. Tell them all the things you CAN eat: meat, potaoes, rice, fruits and vegetables. Offer to help...
  4. so I got my genetics test results today...I don't know specifics other than I have the DQ2 allele, which, combined with my very clear severe reaction to gluten, health history and my excellent response to going gluten-free, gives me a diagnosis of celiac! I'm not insane!!!!!!!! I know I'm lucky, as most celiacs go years without a diagnosis and I only had...
  5. hmm, yeah I saw that...but it sounded like they specifically created a special gluten-free sauce that hadn't existed previously? oh well, the ingredients can't lie I suppose :-)
  6. Is smoked salmon not gluten free? I ate some a few weeks ago along with a few other things that should have been fine- cut up veggies, cream cheese, whitefish, chocolate-dipped apricots...I attributed it to CC, but is smoked salmon bad?
  7. haha, yay for gluten free riders! I also ride english hunter jumper..not jumping at the moment, training a 7 y/o off the track, former polo pony TB. I'm more of a music geek (orch dork! and choir) than a scifi geek though :-)
  8. OK, thanks! It's just weird, and it looks like I got beaten up :-)
  9. This isn't strictgly celiac related but...I had a genetics test on monday. I was really impressed that the phlebotomist (buzzword of the day!) got the needle in on the first stick... my veins are tricky. It didn't hurt at all. Then, about 10 minutes after, my arm started to get really sore, and the rest of that day I could hardly move it. It's been sore since...
  10. This April I'm going to Great Britain, which I know is generally celiac friendly. However, I'm going on a school trip, so our meals and stuff are already planned out- it's not like we can go into a restaurant and order w/e we want. I told the teacher leading the trip all about celiac and its specs, but quite frankly she's a space cadet so I don't know how...
  11. I've never thrown up from gluten, but my stomach often gets horribly painfully distended like that...I look like I'm nine months pregnant! And I can't get rid of the gas in my stomach for a few hours, but it usually comes out the other end :-/
  12. So my parents got chinese takeout, which I wasn't willing to risk...but I was playing with one of the soy sauce packets. On most normal soy sauce, the ingredients are water, wheat, soybeans...you know the deal. But I noticed that these particular packets didn't list wheat! They had hydrolyzed corn and soy protein, salt, and some preservatives, but no wheat...
  13. I was just about to post this topic! I was dx'ed with endo about 3 months before my celiac symptoms started...since going gluten-free I've been somewhat better. interesting...

    ARCHIVED Chinese?

Hi! I'm kinda new to the whole celiac thing, and for dinner tonight, my parents are getting chinese takeout. They're ordering over the phone, so I can't really explain or ask about ingredients very well. I'm not sensitive enough to really be worried about cross contamination, but I can't have normal soy sauce, and obivously no flour in sauces, rice, etc....
