ARCHIVED Yummy Pizza Toppings
HAK1031 replied to imsohungry's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
spinach and mushrooms with fresh mozarella..mmmmm that's my favorite...load any pizza up with veggies and I'm sold i like everything on pizza though...including pineapple (don't knock it till youve tried it!) and anchovies...I have to be the only 16 year old girl in the universe to admit that -
Hi all, I have a nasty case of strep and will be going to the doctor tomorrow for some antibiotics... are most gluten free? I would think they are. Unfortunately stupid HMO insurance requires generics so it's tough to get ahold of companies to find out...and my pediatrician, though very nice and helpful, doesn't know much about celiac (do any of them? ...

ARCHIVED Negative Tests But I Have All The Symptoms?
HAK1031 replied to lightening16's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
been there, done that...it's really up to you. If you have any need for an official diagnosis via endoscopy, then yes, you would need to be on gluten. You'll find that most celiacs couldn't be paid enough to intentionally eat gluten! But if you don't, consider yourself diagnosed. You know what makes you sick, stop eating it! Another option could be independent... -
ARCHIVED Friends Eating My Food?
HAK1031 replied to frogsrme1717's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
say "not unless you have something to trade!" but just don't offer. say "I'm used to it, but you'd probably think it's gross". If they persist say "No, I only have enough for me, and it's tough for me to just buy a snack from the vending machine or something." Then change the subject. That said, I am fully guilty of stealing my friend's glutino pretzels... -
So even though Texas Roadhouse doesn't have a gluten free menu anymore, I had a great experience at the one in Manchester, CT last night. The manager himself had celiac, so he was very knowledgable and helpful. It was the first time in ages I've eaten out and felt totally OK! If you live nearby, check it out.

ARCHIVED Question Re: Safe/forbidden Food Lists
HAK1031 replied to cruelshoes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
my understanding is that maltodextrin, like many other safe ingredients, is made from corn unless otherwise stated. these altoids stated otherwise. -
ARCHIVED Finally, Decent Waffles!
HAK1031 replied to imsohungry's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm from CT and get kinnikinnick products at pricechopper (which has a very impressive gluten-free section) or a big health food store like whole foods. We also have a local grocery store chain here called geissler's, and my celiac friend's sister works there so they special ordered a bunch of stuff :-) so try asking at your local grocery store and see if... -

ARCHIVED Finally, Decent Waffles!
HAK1031 replied to imsohungry's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love both van's and lifestream waffles, though they are a bit crumbly. I haven't tried their waffles, but kinnikinnick's frozen stuff like that tends to be really good! the donuts and bagels are to DIE for! Plus they're not as loaded with fat and sugar as a lot of gluten-free baked goods are, and theyre each 260 calories. And they have 5g of protein and... -
yep! I'm always cold. my mom has raynaud's and I suspect I do too. PS-horsegirl if that fresian in the picture is yours I'm jealous

I just got back from a celiac friend's party. There were only three things there that had gluten- cookies, nacho cheese doritos, and pretzels. So obviously I was really excited bc I could eat everything else! except for the fact that the cheese doritos were right next to the ranch doritos (which are safe) and I reached into the wrong bowl and took a bite...

ARCHIVED Raynaud's Phenomenon
HAK1031 replied to Joyous's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
wow, I never knew Raynaud's existed! But it sounds like my mom and I both have it. My mom always has to wear footwarmers. As we speak my feet are ice cold and blue...I could probably pass for a corpse my nails turn blue a lot too, and when I was getting my lifeguard certification, they were telling us to check for signs of circulation, and blue lips/fingernails... -
ARCHIVED Any Gluten Free Vegeterians Out There?
HAK1031 replied to Chiron's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I gave up on being veggie when I went gluten-free, but that's mainly because I live at home and I didn't wan't to further complicate meals. It can also make eating in a restaurant REALLY hard. But if you feel you can do it, go for it! I admire you :-) -
ARCHIVED Two gluten-free Pantry Breads In Bread Machine
HAK1031 replied to CMCM's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
the gluten-free pantry sandwich bread is my favorite! I'm suprised you didn't like it. But I don't have a bread machine, so I do all of my gluten-free baking in the regular old oven...I've heard this works best for gluten-free stuff. Try that maybe? But I didn't get any beany flavor from the bread at all- I thought it tasted great, and the texture was the... -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Dog Shampoo?
HAK1031 replied to jen2be2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
couldn't you just use people shampoo? something simple, like baby shampoo maybe... I've done this with my dog, and my horse for that matter! -
ARCHIVED Can I Touch Hay ?
HAK1031 replied to georgie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My horse gets fed grass hay... which is good because I pretty much cover myself in it four times a day . -
Ack, when I was younger I hated the real stuff too. But the fake is really bad for you! Not that the real is health food, but the fake stuff is corn syrup and chemicals at any rate, I understand the importance of comfort food! I'm pretty sure Stop and Shop brand is gluten-free (they clearly label guten- I've even seen them list it on the bottom with other...

Welcome Mark! Eating gluten-free in Israel isn't bad. I went a year ago (before I was diagnosed) with my brother, who also has celiac, and he didn't have a hard time. We didn't buy any specifically gluten-free stuff, but restaurants were all pretty good. We were a tough group- my cousins, who have life threatening nut and egg allergies, were also with us...

ARCHIVED 6 Bread/cake Disasters In A Row- Advice Needed
HAK1031 replied to Lisa16's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just made delicious bread with the "favorite sandwich bread" mix from gluten-free pantry and it came out great. Try it! In general I really like this brand, but I haven't tried the cake or pizza dough mixes. I don't have a bread machine though, so I just did it in the oven. I also hate the premade breads. Plus the slices are teeny! I've never tried Chebe... -
ARCHIVED Fathers Gi - Is He An Idiot?
HAK1031 replied to Ken70's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
with those numbers? idiot. -
I also have celiac and endometriosis. My gynecologist said that it is true that many celiacs have it, but they are both common enough that it could be coincedental. I think she is probably right! My pain has been better since going gluten-free, but I've also switched medications so that sould be it too!
-
I think ravewoodglass's statement "celiac is not a GI disorder" sums it up nicely. My mother has about a billion autoimmune disorders, and is always sick, but is convinced it can't be celiac because "my stomach's fine". And that celiac is NOT rare- one of th only reasons I got diagnosed so fast is because I'm surrounded by people who do have it- 3 friends...

ARCHIVED Barbara's Bakery Puffins Cereal?
HAK1031 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This cereal is wheat-free (and delicious!) and I've been eating it for the past few months. One of the flavors is rice flour only, but the others are made from a combination of corn and oat flours. I've never gotten sick from them...should I be worried?
