  1. Oh wow, a topical dapsone? I'm talking to my dermatologist about this!! I was 'diagnosed' in December (blood test only) and have been gluten-free since then, and had a biopsy this week to confirm (new dermatologist). If the biopsy says DH and my bloodwork is OK I'll start dapsone soon..I didn't want to, but after I went gluten-free my DH went crazy on me...
  2. For those interested, Country Life sells multi vitamins without iodine! They are also gluten free. Open Original Shared Link

    ARCHIVED Iodine

Yes, you can troll this discussion as much as you want, and we'll still agree with you: iodine is a necessary nutrient. However, very intelligent people who study this thing for a living while wearing white lab coats have done research which proves that iodine is also involved in the formation of DH blisters on the skin. An old test to see if you have DH...
  4. The consensus is that most blue cheeses do not contain wheat, but some do. Open Original Shared Link I would email Panera to confirm their gorgonzola is gluten-free, just ask them the name of the company that supplies them with the cheese. Also, there are several soups on the menu that are gluten-free. I have a two year old who is gluten-free...
  5. Well, I've had the lesions since April and traditional dermatology treatments didn't work (topical steroids, antihistamines, even singulair for the itching). I cook gluten-free for my celiac son, but I ate some wheat every day. Right before my europe trip, I found out that I had elevated igg and iga antibodies, which means I have some sort of celiac issue...
  6. I agree, which is why I ditched my dermatologist last month. However, dapsone scares the living s*** out of me, and after working in the pharmaceutical industry, I am wary of any drug with that many side effects. I asked my former dermatologist for a biopsy and his response was 'if you want to pay for one, I can do one'. Not very supportive....
  7. My dermatologist checked my antibodies (bloodwork), and based on that and my awful sores, he diagnosed me with DH. Said a biopsy wasn't necessary based on the bloodwork (and the fact that my son is celiac). I mentioned Dapsone and the fact that I refused to take it, and he countered with (paraphrase)" I refuse to give my DH patients Dapsone. One, it masks...
  8. Open Original Shared Link Description: This gluten-free candy list is 29 pages long and is updated every year in time for Halloween by Melonie Katz of the North Virginia Chapter of ROCK. Enjoy!!!
  9. When my son was diagnosed, they told us to go off dairy for six weeks to help his intestines heal. We had him on lactaid for 8 weeks and he did a lot better. He's two and a half, and every day he gets a probiotic and a children's vitamin. Probiotic: American Health's chewable adidophilys (milk free, comes in several fruit flavors) vitamin: Nature...
  10. SAHM2one, That is the best approach. My DS was diagnosed at 18 months, and if he wanted something he couldn't have, we'd say "No, that has Gluten, you'll get a tummy ache", and offer him a gluten-free alternative. He was so sick that he wouldn't even eat chocolate chip cookies because they made him sick, so he already knew that gluten=pain. He's 2 and...
  11. veggienft- Two errors: your tetratogen and opioid definitions aren't quite correct. A tetratogen is a compound which interferes with the way the fetus develops, but doesn't necessarily affect the mother. The best known tetratogen is thalidomide, the morning sickness drug which helped the moms but then caused the fetuses to develop abnormally. Also...
  12. Peter - yep, I"m aware of all the changes. No more 'gluten free' labels on the canned goods from Walmart. My issue was that previously the TJs sauce did not have a warning, and now it does say it was processed on equipment that also processes wheat. So far my searches on this site haven't come up with people having any reactions to TJs stuff, but better...
  13. I have a suggestion for your search function above. It is very hard to plow through the oodles of information, especially ingredients in products which change from month to month. Over on Chowhound.com they also had this problem; you'd search for a restaurant and it would give you posts from 8 years ago first. When I search this forum sometimes the first...
  14. I figured. I've been keeping up with the FDA site on this, and even read most of the bulletin about the labelling changes. I'll search the board yet to see if other more sensitive people have had reactions to TJ"s products.
  15. This is a warning to all you TJs fans out there. When I went to their web site, I noticed that their Gluten Free list was now a No Gluten Ingredients list. I believe they're doing this to comply with the new labelling that goes into effect this year that says you can't label something gluten free unless it's tested or is a 'naturally gluten free product'...
  16. Last fall my son (who is now 2) was diagnosed with celiac (blood test, biopsy). He's now doing wonderfully on his gluten-free diet, finally starting to grow out of his clothes and acting like a regular 2 year old. My pediatric GI (who is head of the dep't at a large children's hospital) told me to test my daughter (which I"m doing this week), but didn...
  17. My son will be thrilled about Kaboom! I called GM awhile back about the Dora stars, and as for CC they said there shouldn't be any since they list on the package if it's made on equipment that also processes wheat. You may want to call them again to confirm. I think that with the new regulations for labelling from the FDA< a lot of the items that were...
  18. I believe a lot of companies will be removing the 'gluten free' labels from their products in response to the decisions the FDA will be making this year about the defintion of 'gluten free'. Open Original Shared Link is the full text, here's their FAQ page: [url="Open Original Shared Link Is the FDA proposing claims for foods which are naturally...
  19. Actually, what you need to avoid is dextrin. Yes, it's confusing. Dextrin, by the FDA's definition, is a food starch that can be made from a variety of grains, including wheat. Maltodextrin in the US is only made from corn. The 'malt-" part comes from maltose, one of the sugars that bind together to make the dextrins, which are big chains of sugar. Maltodextrin...
  20. Musikal- My son was diagnosed with celiac at 18 months. Before he got sick, he was starting to say words, 'ma' and 'cook' (for cookie). When he got sick all speech stopped, and at his 15 month app't (before he was diagnosed), my dr. suggested speech therapy through First Steps in our town. The week we started therapy was the week we went gluten free. He...
