ARCHIVED Urgent Need Regarding A Toddler
ChemistMama replied to sweetness34's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It wouldn't hurt to have him tested again, as long as he's on gluten. My son tested positive for celiac at 18 months and his only symptom was vomiting (no stool problems). If he tests negative again, I would have him tested for food allergies. If you're convinced, you can try a gluten-free diet and see if it works...it's hard and will take a few months to... -
ARCHIVED Cetaphil?
ChemistMama replied to ChemistMama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Llike I said above, the gentle skin cleanser is the only one that IS gluten-free. I really like their hand lotion, unfortunately! The problem likely isn't oats, but the Vitamin E (tocopherols) which can be from wheat. -
ARCHIVED Make Up And Skin Lotion Ect.
ChemistMama replied to valeriek's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Another culprit is Vitamin E, or tocopherol acetate. It can be made from wheat or soy, so you should know the source. Cetaphil only guarantees that its gentle face wash is gluten-free. All vaseline products except the lotion in the yellow bottles(oats) are gluten-free and do not contain vitamin E. The new line of Almay products seem to be OK, the ingredients... -
ARCHIVED New To Gluten-free Diet...what To Look For In The Labels?
ChemistMama replied to oschrndz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
First thing, avoid anything with wheat, rye, oats, barley, or malt. Natural flavors can be a made from wheat or barley, too, so I stay away from those. Maltodextrin in the US is corn based, but dextrin is not, so avoid things with dextrin. Modified food starch is a debatable topic; it's usually made from corn but can be made from wheat, so unless... -
ARCHIVED Cetaphil?
ChemistMama replied to ChemistMama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
...but I just got a email from the folks at J&J, and their Purpose products are gluten-free. I don't understand the 'wheat form of gluten' statement, but it looks like I"ll be using their lotions and face sunscreens this summer! Thank you for contacting the Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc. Information Center. It is always important... -
ARCHIVED Cetaphil?
ChemistMama posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just recieved an email from the folks at Galderma: "The Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser does not contain ingredients that may be derived from grains and therefore does not contain gluten. The other Cetaphil products contain ingredients that may be derived from grains and therefore possibly contains gluten. A cleansing validation of the production... -
ARCHIVED Aveda Products
ChemistMama posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just got an email from Aveda...tons of their products use wheat protein or wheat germ oil, so I avoid those, but their tocopherols are soy based. I can use my hair mousse and lotion!! Yahoo!! (PS. I was recently diagnosed with DH and my son has celiac, so I"m being extra cautions about gluten.) 03/26/2009 Dear ***, Thank you for taking... -
ARCHIVED 2 Year That Gets Gluten At Every Special Event We Go To
ChemistMama replied to Caseysmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Make sure to educate your little one. My son was diagnosed at 18 months. Every single time he was confronted with gluten food, I'd say 'No, GLUTEN!! Owie Tummy!" , then I'd make sure to give him something equivalent that was gluten-free so he wouldn't feel left out. When I'd give him something gluten-free that looks like a gluten food, like pretzels or... -

ARCHIVED Products/ingredients - Need To Purge!
ChemistMama replied to ChemistMama's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Thanks, Scott, I didn't know about that one! As I'm scanning things, I"ll try to 'report' inaccurate items as i see them. Another idea I"d mentioned a looong time ago would be a way to sort search results by date; that way you can choose the most recent/current information when you do a search. I"d like to thank you very much for this site and this... -
ARCHIVED Products/ingredients - Need To Purge!
ChemistMama posted a topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
I'm writing this to ask the Board folks to consider removing old, incorrect posts regarding ingredients for products. Whenever I search the Boards, I often get posts from 5 years ago which are totally out of date. I'm worried that the new celiacs searching the site may be incorrectly informed and end up glutening themselves. My suggestion would be to delete... -
ARCHIVED 6 Months Old With Celiac In The Family
ChemistMama replied to KatieB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
KatieB: OH my goodness. These boards are full of supportive people who can help you go gluten free. If you care about your little one and would like to be healthy enough to see her children, I would stop eating gluten immediately. I talked to my son's pediatric GI and if you have celiac in your family, her suggestion was to wait to introduce gluten until... -

ARCHIVED Where Can I Buy Gluten Free Beer In Orlando Fl While On Vacation
ChemistMama replied to suepooh4's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
On the Redbridge beer site Open Original Shared Link there is a locator search function where you can search for shops that stock redbridge. I saved you the searching, the list is below! Just be aware, the specific ABC liquors my husband went to didn't stock redbridge so I had to settle for Strongbow cider instead (which is awesome! Not sweet like Woodchuck... -

ARCHIVED When Will Dapsone Start Working?
ChemistMama replied to ChemistMama's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks! My derm. and I are in agreement; a strict gluten-free diet plus dapsone for a few months to clear things up. Then gluten-free for life. I was cooking gluten-free for my son who has celiac for the last year, so it wasn't such a stretch to continue for me. I am super strict about gluten after seeing my son so sick! I have awful lesions which I'd like... -

ARCHIVED Need Ready To Eat Meals For Son
ChemistMama replied to Brillious's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some walmarts sell gluten-free cake and brownie mixes, check for white boxes in the Cake aisle. Pamela's at wal mart would be great!! their chocolate chip cookie mix is great. Soyjoy bars, when they're on sale, are a great gluten-free treat. Delimex chicken and steak taquitos are gluten free. Ask your walmart, ours just started stocking Amy's frozen... -
ARCHIVED I'm Mad At Nature Valley's Granola Bars
ChemistMama replied to 626Belle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Envirokidz bars are the closest I've seen to actual granola bars...they're crisped rice bars, in chocolate, peanut butter, and berry flavors. Open Original Shared Link "Organic crispy rice (organic brown rice flour, organic evaporated cane juice, sea salt, organic molasses, rice bran extract), organic brown rice syrup, organic honey, organic canola... -
I started my dapsone today. I have my bloodwork script, so I'm set there...I'll go in for my 1st bloodwork next week, then weekly for a month, biweekly a few times, then monthly. My derm. is very thorough! Right now I'm starting on 50 mg/day. For those who've taken it, how long before it 'kicks in' ? I"ve been gluten-free for almost 3 months (with one...

ARCHIVED 3+ Weeks Of Flare-ups And Counting
ChemistMama replied to splash's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yolo- Happy Girl is right, there are other things which trigger the reaction. If you've been accidentally glutened, even slightly, then also have taken an anti-imflammatory like advil or naproxen, the reaction is greater. Are you watching your iodine intake? I'm taking iodine-free multivitamins and, for awhile now, am watching my intake of shellfish... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Corn Pasta At Big Lots!
ChemistMama replied to ChemistMama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oops, sorry 'bout that!! I'll edit the post above. I was glancing at the package with two singing kids running around the kitchen... I"m going back today to get more! I'd loke to go tomorrow (20% off coupon!) but won't be able to get there. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Corn Pasta At Big Lots!
ChemistMama posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Big Lots by me (I'm in Hoosierland) had lots of gluten-free pasta!! It's called Sam Mills Pasta D'oro, it comes in one pound green plastic bags. The pasta is only made from corn. There were tiny lasagne-shaped noodles, two sizes of rigatoni, large spiral noodles, and elbow noodles (with ridges, to hold the sauce!). I tried them tonight and they were great... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Lay's Sour Cream And Onion
ChemistMama replied to sugarsue's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldn't touch anything from Lay's with a 10-foot pole except the Staxx. They say the products are Gluten Free, but at the bottom is the statement: "The above products do not contain gluten; however, they are produced on the same line as our products that do contain gluten. Although the lines are washed between batches, a slight residue may remain...
