  1. Silverslipper.....are you worried about cross contamination if they make bacon and eggs and you say sure she can have that? I've read a few posts about how pots and pans can be potential hazards as the gluten isn't so easily washed away because it hides in the scratches of the pans...or cutting boards and such. I'm in the midst of planning a sleep over...
  2. My son just tested positive on the celiac blood test. Since my husband (possible celiac) is gluten free we decided not to wait and are having our son go gluten free from now on. We can't see putting him through what could be months before a biopsy can be scheduled. I am not going to continue to feed him gluten if that is the cause of his muscle pains, visual...
  3. But being gluten intolerant wouldn't give you a positive blood test...only Celiac would. If that deamidated gliadin test is 98% specific...which I gather means 98% of individuals testing positive on that test are celiac. That plus having symptoms that go away when implementing a gluten free diet is enough for me to believe and actually feel confident telling...
  4. I never thought I'd have to read the label on meat before. Specifically, meat like stew meat. However, I noticed after purchase that the walmart stew meat had stuff added to it. That really sucked but my husband ate it anyway and a day later was really really sick. I'm guessing it was the stew meat. His guts got really messed up from it. I suppose I...
  5. Thank you Lisa. Yep, that's the plan. Day one...easy as pie.. Oh and forgot to mention...we don't have to worry too much about the school at this point as he's schooled at home.
  6. Thanks for the replies . Yeah, I've been reading more and more about the deamidated gliadin IgG and see that it is a pretty sensitive test. I think we'll go along as if he definitely is celiac as far as our immediate family is concerned. I may end up seeing about getting the genetic testing done just for more food for though if you know what I mean......
  7. I am not sure what to think. The blood test they ran was not as complete as some that are out there. I think she did it as just a baseline...and would leave it up to the GI to do more if something came up. His test was the INOVA Quanta Lite: Deamidated Gliadin IgA 5 paper states <20 = negative Deamidated Gliadin IgG flagged as >30...
  8. I found out already today that his celiac blood test was positive. Well, the nurse called and said "weak positive". I'm going to pick up a copy of the results tomorrow and see what you guys think. His ped wants to refer us to a ped. GI doctor. Since a positive is a positive...I shouldn't have to think it's not right? Also, I know the next step would...
  9. My 11 yr old son had his appointment today. I totally forgot to mention the mouth sores and the enamel defects. I covered family history of gluten issues, though. Had a lot to remember...I wish I would have written everything down. Wasn't too keen on what the dr was saying about the muscle aching pain my son is experiencing. From not getting enough fluids...
  10. You guys are right. Didn't even think about the fact that if he's positive or if the dr would by chance order the biopsy then I really can't limit his gluten until it's all over. I think he's realizing he's been feeling icky now that I've made sure gluten is in his every meal lately. Last night he came to me and said his tummy didn't feel good...so I think...
  11. Looks like my son has another symptom. The other day he developed a couple mouth sores. I have upped his gluten intake for the last week and a half because his dr appointment is next week. I thought maybe if they do blood work it'd be better that he had lots of gluten on a daily basis for a few weeks vs just a little gluten daily or none at all sometimes...
  12. I really am curious about a link. My daughter had her appendix removed at the age of 11. She presented with pain on her right side and was sent home from the dr's 3 times in a week. Told her to tell me if she feels nauseas to come and get me immmediately. She woke me up at 5 am a week after the pain had started...with nausea, took her to the ER. Dr's...
  13. Thanks for all the replies. I am going to be persistent and demand some testing. Not that it might matter but I'm going to fill my son with gluten foods more than he gets now for the next couple weeks until his appointment. My son deals with minor asthma too...which seems to be a little more prevalent in people with gluten problems. Also, I took...
  14. I called the dr's office today to get my 11 yr old seen. Of course I had to talk to a nurse first and then she would tell me if it's necessary. My son has been telling me his muscles hurt and are sore quite often...very very frequently lately. He is always blaming the day before's activity. However, an 11 yr old who has been completely active all his...
  15. That is so interesting about the ANA being elevated when you were 11-13 and what your dr. says now. My husband is "undiagnosed" celiac but we pretty much know he's celiac. He's been gluten free for a year and feeling better than he's ever felt..no diarrhea or stomach pain any more. Anyway, my 16 yr old daughter also had an elevated ANA at that age. She...
  16. A month ago I decided to go gluten free and no/low sugar...it last a week but by the end of the week my bumpy skin on the back of my arms and on my thighs started to really clear up. I wasn't using any lotion...but my skin started feeling so soft as well. I for some reason gave up on my low sugar / gluten free trial after a week...LOL..I think I was going...
  17. I asked my son's ped GI dr this a couple weeks ago. I had my daughters celiac panel and wanted to know why her high gliadin ab IgA which was flagged as abnormal yet I was never told this. He said that there is a high rate of false positives with the gliadin ab IgA and they don't rely on that for a diagnosis. One person's high positive number could mean...
  18. Hi, Had the Ped. GI dr appointment for my 8 yr old almost 2 wks ago. I made the appointment and of course the week of the appointment he didn't complain of stomach pain much...but still had. Continued on with the appointment and had bloodwork done. Still waiting on the results. The dr did want to do a endoscopy and we were to schedule that for about...
  19. Hi, My husband saw pretty immediate cessation (first couple days) with his indigestion upon going gluten free. His diarrhea issues improved but did not completely go away for about 5 months. I believe it just took that long for his intestines to start to heal. He went gluten free in October...and it wasn't until February that the diarrhea was gone completely...
  20. Good luck Dace! I'm calling on Monday to request bloodwork on my 8 yr old. He told me this evening he had to lie down on the ground while outside playing because his stomach hurt so bad. I have to get to the bottom of this. Hope you get some results that help you figure out what's going on in your family. CC
  21. Hi all, I've been reading different posts on blood work because I'm still trying to understand what my daughter's blood work means. So, even though my then 11 yr old daughter's Antigliadin AB-IGA at 47 was flagged as high and the blood work was labeled as abnormal because of it, most doctors don't consider it as having a problem with gluten if all the...
  22. Dace, Hi there, man..does your post sound all too familiar. I think we are leading a double life...really...LOL My now 17 yr old was tested about 5-6 yrs ago for Celiac and I was told it was negative. She had years of diahrea and illness. Then she had her appendix out and I was told the cells surrounding her appendix were consistant with someone...
  23. So, his pain over the past week hasn't completely gone away but he's not complaining that his stomach hurts. If I ask him if it hurt at all during the day he just says "a little." He definitely seems in less discomfort. Well, the other day was a cake auction for cubscouts and he really wanted a piece of the cake. I let him have it. I figured we'd see...
  24. Thank you Mrs. M and Jony. As of Monday he's been gluten free. Today has been the first day since Valentines day he has not complained of his stomach hurting. Crossing my fingers that this is it and the gluten was the culprit. Though I will be sad for him having to watch so closely what he eats. I know it doable...just an annoyance for someone so young...
  25. Hi all, First, I will say that my husband went gluten free (actually following the paleolythic diet) since October and has felt wonderful since. His indigestion and diarrhea have disappeared. He decided to cheat at thanksgiving and was sick for 2 wks...and indigestion was immediate. So he now knows he will never have gluten again. Now my 8 yr old...
