  1. The Intro is recommended for 2-5 days. This allows your body to start healing. Once you begin to introduce cooked fruits and veggies, you'll be able to tell how well you're dealing with them. Since you didn't do the Intro correct the first time, it would've been pretty tough to tell how the foods were affecting you. Expect to have some bloating and gas when...
  2. Check out www.pecanbread.com There's a general food preparation guideline for adding foods back after the Intro.
  3. Alright, we're cool. I'm excited... I had some watermelon and some orange this week and have done a-okay. Woohoo for raw fruit!
  4. Okay... just curious, but how is it obvious that I haven't read the book? I'm obviously not a moron who is just pulling this stuff out of thin air. I've been on the diet for over 5 months and have read the book several times and am a member of a large SCD support group online. I was simply not aware that diet pop didn't have corn syrup in it. Had you said...
  5. The healing aspects of the diet will not be in full swing if you are still drinking pop, even if it IS sugar-free because it's full of corn syrup... corn being a grain... being illegal. If you look at SCD sites, you'll see that when Elaine refers to pop, it's about making your own pop with club soda or tonic water. The occasional part refers to using aspartame...
  6. I was eating gluten-free and lactose-free before starting the SCD. I was actually doing really well before I started the diet. I just started the diet for the healing aspects of it, in hopes that maybe one day I'll be able to regain a semi-normal diet. I heard quite a few people on this board mention Breaking the Vicious Cycle, so I decided to check it out...
  7. The diet's not just about avoiding carbs and sugar. Fruits and veggies have carbs in them. It's about avoiding sugar (except honey, sweet n low, and those that occur naturally like in fruits and veggies), soy, starch, gluten, grains, and anything artificial. Pop isn't okay because of the corn syrup. That's fine if you're just interested in the diet, but if...
  8. You could try adding more eggs to the banana pancake recipe. Also, you could try just baking it in the oven. This is a lot easier than doing the whole pancake thing. Just be careful, because I ate strawberries for a couple weeks before I got seriously sick. I think I may try an orange tomorrow! I'm excited. That seems so silly, but it's true.
  9. Be careful with strawberries though. I screwed up one run of the diet because I started eating strawberries... when I should have been avoiding seeds still. But, I agree about the George Foreman grill. I made a ton of burgers my first few weeks on the diet. I started mixing the ground beef up with some steamed carrots... just for some variety. I eat steaks...
  10. Right now I'm eating meat, cheese, nut butter, yogurt, butter, and cooked, peeled, de-seeded fruits and veggies. When you sum it up like that it really doesn't seem like a lot! Haha. I think I'll probably try peeled, raw fruits next. But, I decided to give myself a couple weeks now that I'm eating the nut butter and all the cooked fruits and veggies. I felt...
  11. Woah. You're moving WAY too fast. You should slowly reintroduce well-cooked, deseeded, peeled fruits and veggies. Then, nut butters. Then, nut flours. Then, raw peeled fruits and veggies. Then, raw fruits and veggies. This is the general guideline. If you go to www.pecanbread.com and click on Food Preparation... there is a table you can kind of work with...
  12. What did you make the muffins out of? I just discovered a few weeks ago, after being on the SCD for several weeks that I'm sensitive to eggs. I don't know if it's something that developed (since I was eating so many eggs on the diet) or if it just became more apparent. I make yogurt ever 1 1/2-2 weeks. I just add a little liquid Sweet N Low and some SCD-legal...
  13. Oh, yeah! By no means did I mean that that was all I was eating. I eat at least 1 hamburger a day, haha. I mix up the ground beef with some cooked carrots... they're pretty good that way. I also eat legal canned tuna. I'm not sure whether or not I'm sensitive to eggs... but lately it seems that way, so I'm just going to stay away. I just consumed some almond...
  14. I started in the beginning of January, but I decided to skip the Intro since I wasn't feeling sick (I'm just interested in the healing aspect of the diet). About 3 weeks into it, I got sick. So, I started over again and did the Intro for 2 days. Again, I went for like 3-4 weeks, but I went too fast towards the end and got sick. So, I did the Intro for like...
  15. I'm also on the SCD. Technically I've been on it for 4 months... but I've had to start over a couple times. I'm really getting irritated with it actually. But, hopefully I am healing.
  16. How do you get started doing yoga? I'd like to... but just by myself. Is that possible? Are there books and tapes out there? I'm sure there would have to be... what do you guys do?
  17. Allergy tests are generally a waste of time. Very few people have true allergies to foods. Celiacs isn't an allergy at all, it's an intolerance.
  18. The Selective Carb Diet doesn't allow you to have any actual sugar. You can still have fruit. You sweeten things with saccharin and honey. Those are the only kinds of sweeteners allowed. No soy. No lactose (because it's a sugar). No grains (No rice, corn, etc.) No gluten. No starch (potatoes). Lots of nuts. I just got done eating pancakes made out of almonds...
  19. I honestly think it's one of the best things that ever happened to me. I was eating SO unhealthy. Now.. I am balanced and feeling good for the first time in forever.
  20. I've been gluten-free for 7 months.. and I've recently noticed that sweets make me sick. I've decided to go on the SC diet.
  21. Oh yeah, I know. I have made it with soy milk and chocolate syrup. My friend wanted me to get it from a gas station though, haha.
  22. I just get so irritated when I'm talking about the diet with my friends and then they say something stupid, haha. Like, all my friends know I can't have gluten or dairy... and then my friend the other night was like... well you can have hot chocolate! And, I was like "HELLO... chocolate!" It's always entertaining to say the least. I find it interesting that...
  23. I don't think that the intolerances have much to do with age. I think it has a little to do with how long you have lived with the intolerance before going gluten-free. I'm only 19, but I was sick throughout my whole adolescence. Since going gluten-free 7 months ago, I haven't been able to tolerate dairy (not sure if it's just the lactose intolerance due to...
  24. Awesome! Thanks for all the feedback. I'd love your info on Kefir.. anything that'll help! I plan on starting the diet as soon as I run out of all the stuff I can't eat!
  25. I've been gluten-free for about 6 months and dairy-free for about 4, and I was wondering if anyone here has tried the selective carb diet. I just read Breaking the Vicious Cycle and the diet seems appealing and I think it would alleviate my remaining symptoms. My question though is since I've been completely dairy-free, because I wasn't sure if my prob was...
