ARCHIVED My Amusing Email Conversation With The Olive Garden
gleegan replied to luvs2eat's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I agree with everything that has been said (I have a friend who goes with her boyfriend their on their fancy "date night" which is beyond my comprehension), but at least they do have gluten-free options. I work in the boonies and when I MUST go to a work lunch at least I can go there and eat something - I'd rather that than the awkwardness of refusing to... -
ARCHIVED Carlsbad gluten-free? We Are Going To Leggo Land.
gleegan replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I just went to San Diego last week and did some research, including concerning Carlsbad restaurants. Unfortunately, this list does not break it down into areas and I was looking partially for a brunch place for adults, but it still might be helpful. Most of the places I looked for were between Carlsbad (to the north) and as far south as Hillcrest. Hope this... -
ARCHIVED Throwing Up As A Symptom Of Glutening?
gleegan replied to gleegan's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks for the replies. I am always so careful so it doesn't seem fair that the one time I don't check something out that should be fine, it isn't. But I guess if one moment of not being thorough results in throwing up in public, I will never assume a meal will be fine again!!! I'm quite sure that it was gluten and not the drink since (thank goodness) I haven... -
Thanks for this; it makes me feel better. I had Indian food last night, which is usually not a problem. I've been gluten-free for 6 years and have never thrown up, but I did last night after feeling very nauseated. It kind of freaked me out, but I guess my body just wanted to get rid of the gluten as you say. But I had D not long before I threw up, which...

I ate at an Indian restaurant last night with a group of people and I did something that I never do - I didn't check out the restaurant to see is what I was ordering was gluten-free. I was just on a trip and asked these questions over and over and I guess I figured because I've never had a problem with Indian food, that it would be ok. I got aloo gohbi, which...

ARCHIVED "seizure Like" After Eating Contaminated Foods
gleegan replied to Bexxa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, I haven't experienced anything like a seizure when exposed to gluten. However, I do sometimes have this very weird thing where I feel like my brain is tingling. It's hard to describe in any other way. It's a disturbing feeling and it doesn't go on for too long. It took me a while to connect to gluten, but now it's one way that I know if I've been cross... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Spices
gleegan replied to TiaMichi2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maybe you didn't mean to be as condescending as you sounded, Kareng, but I will say that I have hesitated to post on this forum because I've gotten comments that I found weren't trying to be sincerely helpful. What do I know - I'm not a food scientist; I only know that I don't feel well and I don't feel like throwing my food (and money) in the trash? I'm... -
ARCHIVED Need A Good Multi-Vitamin
gleegan replied to TLK879's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been using Pioneer and it doesn't have any of those allergens you mentioned and it's sugar-free too. I get the chewable, but it's available in capsules, too. Make sure you get the "gluten free" one (that might be the only one, but it definitely says "gluten free" on it). -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Spices
gleegan replied to TiaMichi2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for your comment. It wouldn't be the mustard because I've never had a problem with that. It COULD be a gluten-free roll that I ate (I sometimes react to yeast)...I didn't think that the gluten would be in the seeds, but i thought that it might be a cc issue and they could have had contact with gluten and been dusted with it - I'm THAT sensitive... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Spices
gleegan replied to TiaMichi2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I guess I was not as careful as I usually am and should have been. I was having trouble finding mustard seeds anywhere, so I finally gave in and got some in the International Cuisine area of Wegmans. I thought that I'd be safer since mustard seeds are not ground up and are whole, but I should have at least rinsed them first. I'm pretty sure that is why I... -
ARCHIVED Tortilla Chips
gleegan replied to UpbeatPete's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Like another poster, I like Xochitl. I also eat the ones by Food Should Taste Good. And sometimes I make them myself - it doesn't take long - I oven bake them so they're healthier. -
ARCHIVED Are Organic Nuts From The Health Food Store Gluten Free?
gleegan replied to ericsnow's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I should add that I don't get any roasted nuts or nuts with anything mixed in with them - just the nuts themselves. -
ARCHIVED Are Organic Nuts From The Health Food Store Gluten Free?
gleegan replied to ericsnow's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Eric, that has been a big concern for me, too. I mainly get almonds and walnuts from the bulk aisle in Whole Foods and another health food store near me in Philadelphia. I asked the people who work there and they told me that they can't guarantee anything. After hesitating for a long time, I found that it's pretty impossible to find any nuts that are GUARANTEED... -
This is an interesting discussion. I didn't know too much about the FODMAP diet before reading about it here, but it seems like I have many of the same intolerances. Although I can have garlic, onion has become a huge problem for me (as have leeks). I have found that I can include onions and leeks in broths (removing them before making the soup, obviously...

ARCHIVED I Hear People Around Me Talking About Food Constantly!
gleegan replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think people have always talked about food this much, but we just notice now because we have the dietary restrictions. I'm a lot better about listening to it now; I do try to tune out, but a lot of the time (when it's not too terribly rude, I just leave the area or change the subject). The thing that always annoys me, though, is at work. People are CONSTANTLY... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Gluten Free Black Beans
gleegan replied to CantWeight's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I see the point that you and others have made. I hadn't thought about it that way. I guess I wish they would word it by saying either that wheat and soy are also packaged in the same factory or that they share the same equipment. When they say "may contain" - it sounded to me like they were purposefully throwing some in for some reason. That probably sounds... -
ARCHIVED Twinings Pure Peppermint Herbal Tea
gleegan replied to kookie1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I used to drink that all the time and never had a problem. I never have a problem with Stash peppermint tea or Celestial Seasonings peppermint tea (that one even says gluten free on it) either, just in case you ever end up getting one of those. -
ARCHIVED Glutened By A "gluten Free" Product!
gleegan replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks so much for posting this. I too had read other warnings from people, but was hoping that it was simply a problem in Canada. I have a couple in my fridge and was even going to eat one today. Now I will toss them out - not worth taking the risk. I hope you feel better soon; sorry for your horrible reaction - thanks for helping me avoid having one... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Gluten Free Black Beans
gleegan replied to CantWeight's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Actually, this topic has been on my mind a lot lately. I don't eat canned beans. However, I have even had a huge problem finding dry beans and lentils that don't make me nervous. Twice recently, I have bought lentils - dry, in a manufacturer's bag - and gotten home only to notice that the back of the bag says "may contain wheat and soy"! This is so unbelievably... -
ARCHIVED Can Gluten-Free Diet Cause Diabetes Or High Sugar Results?
gleegan replied to WVSweetie Pie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Even while trying to limit your carb intake, you might want to switch to gluten-free brown rice pasta (like Tinkyada), for example. Annie Chun even makes brown rice noodles. They take a little while to get used to, but I think you'll love them before long. That way you can avoid the more refined gluten-free carbs...Good luck! -
That's an interesting question, StephHappens (I love that moniker, by the way). I hadn't really thought of that. This is the first one I've ever had (well, maybe the second, but the first was very mild) and I've had celiac symptoms for over ten years (gluten free for 4 years). I work in a building that feels very toxic in many ways - no circulation, we can...

That's awful that you got Celiac from a sinus infection. Though, now that I've had one, I can understand why - it's so debilitating and exhausting! That's great advice - thanks! I will make sure to start taking acidophilus pills right away...

Thanks rosetapper and mushroom. I guess there's a reason that I didn't even BOTHER asking the doctor about probiotics but felt I would get the advice of people on this forum, who seem to know more about this kind of thing! Sad because the doctors should know much more, but good that there's such a forum to turn to

Thanks, Wolicki! I actually drink kombucha everyday, so I am convinced of its benefits. I'm glad to know that the antibiotics won't completely cancel out the probiotics - thanks for your help.

Hi, I have been struggling with a sinus infection for about 5 weeks. I am very against taking antibiotics when not necessary (or any medication - I haven't taken as much as an advil in 4 years, partly because I just need to be so careful about what I ingest; I get digestively sick so easily). Anyway, the pain has become so intolerable that I have now started...
