    weird bruises are from vitamin K def. ? and that can be caused by celiac?! OMG. I had the blood test when my girls did and they said I "carry it" but it wasn't turned on yet.... I get bruises so easy and I forget where (like once I got a bruise from my kid holding my finger while she was nursing) *goes back to the doctor* see? the show did help...

    yeah, there was an episode of ER where it was briefly mentioned also (I notice stuff like that, like on Gimore Girls when Lane was talking about gluten free diets., I could go into the whole conversation but it's off topic)

    you know, I don't know. I used to think if we ordered gluten free food from an understanding restraunt that it would be okay, then the other night my daughter got DH rash from a gluten free meal from a "celiac friendly" restraunt. I realized she can't eat out (at least not risk free) It's kinda sad.

    I have recieved a ton of emails and phone calls today because of the show, if nothing else, at least people realize that Celiac disease can be serious if untreated. I think a lot of my friends didn't realize (no matter how much I told them) how very important it is to be gluten free when you are a celiac. I have had to answer the same question all day...

    It was on tonight, and I am so glad that I recorded it!!!! It was so good. I am expecting about 40 phone calls tomorrow about "isn't that what your girls have?" LOL oh, well, can't ask for better awareness than to be on a show that a lot of people watch.

    when I was trying to get my 2 year old to gain weight, we did a lot of startches (potatoes mostly) and also, Pediasure. I agree though that you need to make sure he doesn't have allergies that you don't know about.

    yep, she is 4 and has been gluten free since October of last year. My other daughter is 2 and has been gluten free since May of 2004 so she is past the "adjustment" and also doesn't really remember eating gluten.

    The school should be able to let her use a fridge and microwave, esp. after you explain to them that she is on a doctor prescribed diet.     if your baby is still in the mouthing stage I would say it's pretty likely that she got cross contaminated.     that is such a really cool thing you are doing for her. I would like to suggest a few purse friendly candies (since there will always be a time when a celiac has to rely on eating solely what's in her purse) M & M's are good for this.     Okay so I know that if the label says "modified food startch" the my girls can't have it unless I call, which means I just don't buy it, I assume that it's the same for modified "anything" startch, but I have heard someone comment that modified corn startch is different and that I don't have to check.........     wow. it's difficult to answer. It's my girls who have celiac, and other people in my family. My mother is Irish/Scotish, and that's the side the celiac is on, so I suppose that's the answer.

    Annika used to get really really bad rashes, but once she was gluten free they went away. Her doctor said that she wasn't absorbing her food right because of the damage in her intestines and that there was some stuff left in her poop that was irritating to skin (I don't remember the exact word for it, but it was some type of digestive acid) I just grossed...
