ARCHIVED Ibs Leads To Other Diseases....
Smunkeemom replied to danikali's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My advice is to get a brand new doctor, go in calmly and tell them exactly what you wrote here and add "I am sick, I feel like nobody cares, I need to know what is wrong so I can fix it, can you help me?" see if that works. It worked for hubby, it has yet to work for me and the girls. I am about to try the new route of going to medical school... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms?
Smunkeemom replied to MomtoAlly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daugther had the "pot belly" the doctors kept saying "oh, she's fine, she's not skinny look at that belly" then I pointed out to one that the kids in Africa on the news have the big belly's too. She weighed 11lbs at 11 months (down from 24 at 9 months) You might have to do what I did (which wasn't my most "proper moment" but probably my "best mom moment... -
ARCHIVED Allergy Vs. Celiac
Smunkeemom replied to nursestherapies's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
a lot of people say that dietary response is the only way to go. My 3 year old has an official diagnosis (blood work and biopsy) my 4 year old (will be 5 in July) had inconclusive blood tests and pos. dietary response, and I had a pos. blood test and am just starting on the diet. There are all kinds of celiacs, I don't have any problem saying that my... -

ARCHIVED How Do People Function Without Sleep?
Smunkeemom replied to DingoGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
first I take a long shower, it relaxes me. (which yeah, I am stressed if I don't get enough sleep, so then I am cranky and sleepy) then I eat a good breakfast, I try for fruit with it, since it gives me energy. I try to shy away from caffiene since then I won't sleep well for a few days and have to feel like that all over again. It seems the better... -
if you are in a hurry you can microwave them, but then the tortilla doesn't get crispy I bake them on a cookie sheet I put tomato paste (not sauce because it's too thin) pepperoni shredded cheese (I like the "mexican blend" that has cheddar and jack, but hubby likes the "pizza blend") black olives bell peppers and onions you put...

ARCHIVED Ibs Leads To Other Diseases....

or she was intolerant to milk or soy, or corn, or something else that they didn't test her for..... besides spastic colon and IBS are two very different things (if I recall correctly) -
ARCHIVED Lindalee
Smunkeemom replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Mary Kay Liner. I found a list somewhere of forbidden ingredients for makeup, but I don't remember where. I just look for stuff I can't have, most of the time the company will know what their gluten free products are, I called L'oreal and asked since they carried my shade of lipstick and this is one of the kinds that was gluten free. I look for... -
ARCHIVED Rollercoaster.....
Smunkeemom replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
if you think about it we are kinda low maintenence, we only need 3 food groups instead of 4 LOL see? throw out the whole bread group, we don't care, we don't want it LOL you can do it, it just won't be as fun as a real rollercoaster. As far as your friends, you can scare them with "there is enough gluten in 1/48th of a slice of bread to damage... -
ARCHIVED "shocking" In Stomache?
Smunkeemom replied to mart's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I get that sometimes, it feels like there is static electricity in your tummy. It hurts. I have no clue what causes it, and my doctor says it's "anxiety" which is basically his answer when he doesn't want to find out what's really wrong with me. I had been keeping a food diary and found out that on days when I ate what I call "gas veggies" broccoli, cauliflower... -
ARCHIVED Lindalee
Smunkeemom replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just bought a new one last night, I triple checked the ingredients, it's L'oreal Endless Kissable. It comes in some great colors, it's stayed on all day, didn't dry my lips out, and it's less than $6, I got it at the Walgreens. -
ARCHIVED Rollercoaster.....
Smunkeemom replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am sorry you are having a rough time of it. My family is pretty used to celiac in general since my youngest was diagnosed 2 years ago. I get kinda cranky with the "but she can have white bread right?" type of people, I say "whatever it is you eat, 90% of it she can't have" I guess now I can't have it either oh, well, I am feeling better. I... -
ARCHIVED Allergy Vs. Celiac
Smunkeemom replied to nursestherapies's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think I understand. Wheat bothers you, if you test neg. for an allergy then you want to know if that means (or means it's more likely) that the reason it bothers you is that your are intolerant or have celiac. I however don't know the answer. I can say if wheat bothers you, then you probably shouldn't eat it LOL but you already know that. It... -
ARCHIVED Ibs Leads To Other Diseases....
Smunkeemom replied to danikali's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
IBS= we don't know why you are sick so we will tell you this to shut you up yeah, that's about the summary. It's kinda like when I was really really sick for about 2 months once, and went to the ER from dehydration and they said "oh you have gastroenteritis" sounded professional and official, I get home and look it up and it basically means... -
haha, you know, people do think I am crazy. I have a special sponge for my counter and a different one for my gluten free dishes and another for my gluten dishes and yeah, I am a nut. (they are all color coded too) I memorized the forbidden ingredients list in my sig (from celiac.com) and I have little "food folders" that go where my girls go, that...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pantry Choc. Truffle Brownie Mix
Smunkeemom posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
OMG.....it's SO good. I am eating a warm brownie now, just out of the oven. I am not a great baker, nor do I have weird ingredients in my house, but this is awesome it called for eggs and veg oil. that's all. So goooooood. just thought I would pass along the knowledge in case someone was looking for some good brownie mix. (oh, I did... -
I am currently writing my own database to do that, I have no clue if there is another one out there commercially available. I have a notebook like you talked about (okay big confession I have 4) I have been thinking lately about having a Saturday where I teach hubby how to cook all the gluten free stuff the girls eat, and go through labels with him...

ARCHIVED School Aged Kids And Lunch
Smunkeemom replied to Tony'sMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
my girls and I have to bring our lunch to a lot of the play dates we go to, we get the Oscar Meyer meat and cheese combos at the Walmart, it's like a lunchable without any crackers and it's gluten free, we add to that some fruit and maybe some good veggies and it's all in all a pretty good lunch (some days we are "bad" and sub. the fruit for some hershey... -
ARCHIVED Is There A Safe Drive-thru Food I Can Eat?
Smunkeemom replied to Mabc's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
afaik (as far as I know) the only gluten free stuff at the Taco bell is the tostada and the beans and cheese. I think everything else has gluten, but I haven't called to check it out in at least 3 weeks. however, I hit the Wendys a lot, the baked potato with chili is good (if you get bored with just eating the baked potato OR the chili, I just buy... -
I live on corn tortillas, I made mini pizzas with them for dinner last night... so good.

ARCHIVED Am I Making A Mistake By "diagnosing" My Daughter Ourselves...
Smunkeemom replied to HeatherG's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
you are not alone, my 4 year old had pos. blood tests but a neg. biopsy (she was 3 then) and her doctors refused to diagnose her as celiac. She started getting sick last year, so I put her on the diet, she is 100% better and they still won't dx her with celiac because I refuse to put her on a gluten challenge (why would I knowingly make my kid sick?!) anyway... -
ARCHIVED Do You Think I Might Have Celiac
Smunkeemom replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
she had the blood test, and it was pos. but the doctor told us that since we weren't losing weight that we didn't have it. I am trying to convince her the doctor was very wrong -
