Smunkeemom replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
it's on their Open Original Shared Link, but since it's the first time we tried it and we haven't ever had a problem with ruffles or hilshire farms, I am calling them monday, to find out what the deal is... that is scary that I just fed my kids gluten. they are pissed off at me now. They keep saying "how can we trust you now?, you said it was gluten... -

ARCHIVED I Think My Daughter May Have Celiac
Smunkeemom replied to goob's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
you should take her to the doctor for that. It might be that she has another problem in there caused by the celiac since her belly was sick for so long, something might be not quite right. I still have a little tenderness in my belly, but my doctor says it's from scar tissue from surgeries, he said that if I hadn't had the surgeries though he would be... -
For breakfast we had fruit, gluten free, no problem. For lunch we had Hilshire Farm Cheese Brats, and Ruffles potato chips, with Frito Lay french onion dip. All the Celiac people in the house are sick. I have a major headache and tummy ache 4 year old has a rash and is cranky 3 year old has D, rash, cranky, and says her brain is...

I accidentally had contact with gluten today (didn't eat any, just had to touch it) and I have this feeling on my face like I am sunburned only I am not sunburned, I was explaining it to hubby and my 4 year old says that's how she feels before she gets a gluten rash.... do you think I am going to get a rash? sorry if I am paranoid, but my girls...

ARCHIVED Cover-your-ass-girl Saga Continues
Smunkeemom replied to queenofhearts's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I hate it when they do that. I emailed a company once asking about whether or not the modified food starch in one of their products had wheat in it and they replied along the lines of "gluten intolerance is a serious disease, please ask your doctor before eating our products, we don't have knowledge of the gluten content." like my doctor... -
ARCHIVED Whoo Hooo! I Am Losing Weight
Smunkeemom replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It's going to be a while before I have to buy new clothes, I had gotten so fat and uncomfortable that all my clothes are elastic waist none of them cute, none form fitting (since my "form" was that of a globe ) I made a deal with myself that for every 5lbs I lose I get a new outfit, but only after I lose a certain amount, that way I will have a whole... -
ARCHIVED I Dont Get It?
Smunkeemom replied to minibabe's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I saw them. It might have said corn flour (which I was told was okay) but yesterday at the store I only saw the gluten kind, I think the gluten free boxes are few and far between until the old ones are gone. Yeah it says CORN ( whole grain corn, flour, meal) I called the company and they said the ones that say WHEAT STARCH are not gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Do You Think I Might Have Celiac
Smunkeemom replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I told her that, and she says "oh, but he went to medical school and took an oath and stuff" I think she is in denial. I am going grocery shopping with her this weekend though, I will try to suggest gluten free foods, maybe if she see's all the food she can eat, then she will feel better about it. -
Okay, so I called the corp. office and they said they would email me information, and I got the email today, it says.... "Thank you for your recent request for a list of gluten-free menu items available at Applebee's. Due to the frequency in which we change our menus, as well as the small risk of cross-contamination, we can not provide the list you...

Define "a long time"... I would probably have to be near death to even think about touching gluten again, I am pretty sure that if I was really starving to death though, gluten would push me to death faster than not eating.

Smunkeemom replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
about the wine and chocolate... sometimes you gotta do it, besides what kind of life is it without wine and chocolate? There is a thred around here somewhere about losing weight (on purpose) on the gluten free diet, it has some pretty good tips. I have been drinking a lot more water, maybe you could start with that, if nothing else you will... -
I am not sure how much I have lost, but I have been gluten free for a month and in addition to feeling better, I seem to be losing some of this weight that I gained when I started to get sick. I am sure it's not more than 5lbs or something, but I look so much better, and I feel better. I kinda feel bad posting this since most of you are trying...

ARCHIVED Do You Think I Might Have Celiac
Smunkeemom replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Okay, so her new doctor retested her blood (couldn't find the old results on her medical record) and she tested pos. on her IgA and her ttg and he said that meant she "didn't have it" and said all her symptoms were IBS... I thought your if the ttg was pos. then you had it, isn't that the specific celiac one? I asked him and he said that if she had... -
ARCHIVED I'm At My Wit's End! Please Help Me...
Smunkeemom replied to zebrabelly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am sorry that you have had such a battle trying to figure out what's going on with her. Meat and most veggies (not corn) and fruit are okay for her, so you all eat that for a while, if hubby or you wants something else, do it away from the house when she isn't around. It won't seem like a weird diet if you all are on it, and it's not going to do anything... -
meh. If he is going to be like that on the phone, God only knows what he would do to my food when I came in. I won't be going there. I guess corporate might want to know he was being a jerk and probably lost a lot of customers (since everyone I know is going to hear about it, same for my friend)

funny this thred should show up, I got invited out to Applebee's next week just last night (does that make sense?) anyway I called them last night and the converstation went like this "I will be visiting your restraunt early next week and I was wondering if you had a gluten free menu." "nope." "is there a good time I can come in and talk to you...

short of bringing a bag with a liner that you can hide food in, you would best be served bringing things in any pockets you can muster (cargo pants are a must for this) I have been known to fuse a pocket into the inside of my shirt and hide larabars there. (yeah I am pathetic, but my kids had to eat and the zoo is a "no outside food" place and they...

ARCHIVED I Dont Get It?
Smunkeemom replied to minibabe's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called about the Trix (since I really did find a box with out Wheat Starch) and they say that the line is washed down everyday and that they don't mix cereal types (meaning that they dedicate 1 day to Trix only) but if you are suspicious about how well they wash down the line...that's another thing all together. I am going to eat it for a few days and... -
you can still have the baked potatoes, and stuff. EDIT: removed false information

ARCHIVED Symptoms?
Smunkeemom replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
He is not quite 3, he isn't eating at all now, he hasn't for about a week, I was watching him yesterday and got him to eat a waffle. He told me later that his "belly hurt" and that he didn't want to eat any more. I tried to get him to drink his pediasure, but he was very resistant, he said it makes his belly hurt and his head swimmy when he eats. I know... -
ARCHIVED A Slightly Obserd Question
Smunkeemom replied to Lister's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I pm'd a person about 2 weeks ago with the same question here is their partial reply "lol :-) no problem. :-) it's a good question to ask, and just means that you're thinking about all possibly sources of gluten contamination. good for you! :-) We've had the question a few times before over the past couple years, and there doesn't... -
I have a friend whose child is being tested for celiac. ARCHIVED Dear Pizza Hut.....i Hate You........
Smunkeemom replied to angel-jd1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
maybe you were just really hungry before you went to bed? The girls and I have had great success with corn tortilla pizzas, you use the corn tortilla as the crust, put on some tomato paste and top it with whatever toppings you like (like pepperoni, bell peppers, and black olives) they taste close to pizza and are gluten free (if you get the right ingredients...
