  1. thank you. I knew they were abusive (or I thought they were) and hubby agreed, but I was starting to think he was just agreeing because he thought he had to or something. My big issue has been still seeing my mom, and she is still seeing them, so I get the "are you sure you haven't been brainwashed? because they seem fine to me" I think they are NOT okay...
  2. my family does that too, they call all the ER's if I don't answer my phone (like I am not allowed to go to the grocery store) and then they would call me things like 'fat reject' and make comments about how my hubby only married me because I "tricked" him, because who would want me.......... I can't believe I put up with it so long. life is much...
  3. not to be too into your business, but why isn't it an option not to see them? My family is very very close knit, a guy I was dating said once that if one of us stubbed their toe the whole family would scream. I know it's hard to break free from abusive people (I have decided that my family is emotionally abusive) because they will guilt trip you and...
  4. Kelloggs Rice Crispies are NOT safe, they have malt which is made from Barley. There are lists of gluten free foods, but you still have to read everything every time, because formulas and stuff change suddenly and without notice. There is a member here with a newbie kit, you can PM her for her email address her screen name is nini. My local support...
  5. awesome awesome awesome! gonna make these!!!!!!! I had been lying to myself saying I could live without the flour tortillas, I have tried that flour mix for other stuff and it turned out great, so I have nothing but good feelings about this thank you!!!!!!!!!
  6. your family sounds like mine they used to criticize the smell and texture of my girls' gluten free foods, and then try to say things to them like "mommy is so mean not letting you have some cookies" and "I couldn't eat that yucky food you do, it would make me want to die" I sat them down and told them straight out, that they need to shut up or stay...
  7. you might (okay you DO) want to wear gloves when working with orange oil, because in addition to taking the oil and grease off whatever you clean it with it will take the oils off your hands.
  8. I like to clean the big peices of food off with dishsoap and then I use orange oil to get the greasy residue off it, and then I wash it again with dishsoap mixed with baking soda to make it shiney. If you can't find orange oil, I have heard of people using vinegar, although it doesn't smell as good and you might want to dilute it.
  9. I have celiac and grind my teeth, and my dentist said I have TMJ, but he never said what causes it. Hubby thinks I grind my teeth in my sleep due to stress, and being sick with celiac can be stressful.... I don't know, if it's a symptom of celiac though.
  10. my kid eats a lot of broccoli. I was noticing that the more I think about what she has been eating, she eats it with like 2 meals a day most days... she is broccoli addicted. that could give her gas right?
  11. I make my girls cupcakes and freeze them seperately, then when it's time for a party we thaw some out and decorate them with sprinkles and pretty frosting and sometimes I even buy those little rings that you can put on the cake, their cupcakes turn out looking 'more fun' than everyone else's "real cake" As far as other people not feeding them, my girls...
  12. men can get yeast infections (just like women do) only they don't have the annoying symptoms, maybe you should have him go to the doctor and get checked out. I had a friend who had recurrent yeast infections and she kept going to the doctor it took 2 years for them to figure out her hubby had a chronic one and just kept sharing it with her. I had to go to...
  13. I got a new toaster for our gluten free goodies it was about $6 from the discount store, it works fine. As far as pans, dishes, spoons, ect. I am still working on that, I have been buying a little at a time and putting them away, I just have to get a stock pot and a 12in. skillet and I will have enough to give away all my gluten stuff. I haven...
  14. Okay, so I forgot about the whole school thing, I homeschool, so I don't really need a "solid" diagnosis for my oldest (and I have one for my youngest) I guess I was right earlier that there may be many reasons that I didn't think of.
  15. she eats everything but gluten, I suppose it's food diary time again, although I was thinking about it, and she gets really bad gas on Fridays (and goes to my mother in laws on Thursdays) so I think I will keep her home a few weeks and see what happens. (and also do the food diary)
  16. yeah, I would ask. He could be fine, but I just worry (maybe too much)
  17. my 3 year old has had really bad gas intermittenly the last few weeks, they sent her home from the daycare at my gym because she "smelled" and today she was taking a nap and we could hear her pooting down the hall, it's like 20 feet away she says her tummy hurts sometimes, and has spent the day almost on the potty because she can't tell the difference...
  18. did they ever really check out the 'spot' on his intestine? I ask because my daughter (the young one) had an Intussusception that was caused by swollen lymphs in her intestines (from we think the celiac) and it caused an obstruction, she got pretty sick, but it took them a good 3 weeks to find it (in which she lost 40% of her body weight) but they said hers...
  19. I get reactions just touching gluten (yeah even if I don't eat it) so all my personal care stuff is gluten free. Dove is pretty good about disclosing ingredients, and I haven't found anything of theirs with gluten yet (but you should always read it every time you buy it) they make shampoo, conditioner and deoderant. As far as hairspray, I use White...
  20. armetta is right about the gluten challenge, it takes a long time, your kid WILL get very sick if they have celiac, then you have to do the blood test which has a high chance for being a false neg. in a child so young. ( can you tell I am against it? LOL) If he is doing well and you are doing okay with the diet, I would tell the doctor that you don't want...
  21. that's pretty typical, I head up the support group for parents and kids (mostly we are parents of preschoolers with celiac) and ALL of us got a "yeah, uh... keep them off gluten" from the doctors, no help, no explianation of what gluten is, nothing. Luckily I found this site. I did the same thing with Annika, I am still 2 years...
  22. 2 year olds understand simple rules only if they are applied evenly and all the time. I tried to keep my rules to less than 5 words when I was dealing with my girls when they were two, I would make them rhyme if possible. "sit down or get down" (when they were standing on the couch, they knew that meant either sit on your bottom, or get off my...
  23. I don't know about the "5 days" thing, I have never heard that. It took my daughter 3 or 4 months to improve to the point that I could say "hey, this diet is the answer" (even though she 100% had celiac, I was still in some denial about it) As far as how long he can go without symptoms of getting glutened, it changes from person to person (just like how...
  24. didn't see that.... thanks.
  25. I called them a few months back and they couldn't tell me if it's gluten free or not. I do think though that Silly Putty is gluten free (at least the egg of it we have now is) and it's also fun to squeeze and tons of fun to snap. Also, Crayola Model magic is gluten free, so it's kinda like playdough.
