I tried to look it up for you, but the only page that I found that says they grow out of it, also said that people "grow out of" celiac too, and we all know that is WRONG. I do have a question though, if kids grow out of it, then why do so many adults have the prolem?

ARCHIVED Frustrated With Doctors Around Here
Smunkeemom replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just got back from Vacation Bible School, and one of my helpers has Celiac, and the other doesn't. The one without Celiac starts asking me questions about it, like "will they go into shock if they get some?" and "what happened that you knew they were sick?" and so I take it as an oppertunity to educate, since she is going to school to be a teacher, and... -
ARCHIVED Nursing Baby With Celiac?
Smunkeemom replied to mom in Iowa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, gluten passes in breast milk, and yes a 10 month old can have celiac, my youngest started gettng sick at 10 months and was diagnosed at 12 months. She was very sick though, so her tests were high pos. I hear that's rare for a small child to have that high of a pos. test. You could ( and I would) make sure your son is 100% gltuen free for at least... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With Doctors Around Here
Smunkeemom posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When my youngest got diagnosed, she almost died before they found out what was wrong with her, she at a year old had fallen to below her birth weight, she was on a feeding tube, and Celiac was "the last thing" they thought she might have. I know now (2 years later) that she was a classic case of celiac, I read medical journals and she was exactly what they... -
ARCHIVED Twin Two Year Olds Just Diagnosed With Celiac
Smunkeemom replied to twinmommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The SCD diet is pretty rough to start out with, from what I understand it's the last resort, you might want to try gluten free/dairy free first and see if they feel better. I know the book says that you are supposed to do the SCD to heal and then add food back in, but people heal fine on the gluten free diet. -
ARCHIVED Twin Two Year Olds Just Diagnosed With Celiac

I found when my girls first went gluten free that it was easier to get them to eat the food if I came at it from a "wow, this is so good, I really like <insert food here>" rather than a "this is what you can eat now" thing. example (happened today) "I'm really digging these corn muffins, you want a peice?" instead of "here is a corn muffin... -

ARCHIVED How To Deal In A Non-gluten-free Household?
Smunkeemom replied to tracii's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
it sucks, that's for sure. I had to put my foot down around here and throw a fit, but as of a few weeks ago, we have a 90% gluten free kitchen (still working on getting new cookware and dishes) In the time that the kitchen wasn't gluten free, I tried to use paper plates, bowls, and plastic silverware for the gluten free food. That way I got out of the... -

Open Original Shared Linkis a list of ingredients to look for in your shampoo, ect. You can print it out and look at everything you have. I threw out all my lipstick and started over, thinking it was probably cross contaminated (put it on after eating cereal in the morning) and also because I lost the packaging with the ingredients on it. -

I tried it and wasn't able to stick to it. I don't know that it's ever normal to go that long without a BM unless that's his normal rythym. -

If you have a restruant in mind, go a few days before hand and just look at the menu, think about what you might be able to eat there, then talk to the manager. I like to go right after lunch rush (about 2-3p) when they are slow, and sit down and talk to the manager. I tell them when I will be coming, and what I would like to eat, it gives them time to find... -

I hear that there are no false pos. on blood tests, and that if it's pos. you got it. Now, how possible is it that he has damage already? not sure on those odds, but if he doesn't go gluten free, he will eventually get damage. -

In my 6 years of marriage I haven't actually seen hubby's stools, but I can guess what they look like...... (since he has crohn's and all) we talk about poop way too much in our house, the texture esp. haha! I guess that's "normal" for a family where in the immediate family (kids, parents, grandparents) you have 5 people with Celiac, 3 with crohns, and 2...

ARCHIVED Ice Cream Truck
Smunkeemom replied to stephanielaw's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
haha, that is funny. I spent the first 4 years of my daughter's life NOT buying anything from the truck, trying to keep her from finding out, I sent her to my mother in laws for a weekend, and now everytime she hears the music she screams "ICE CREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!" So much for my efforts. I thought it was such a good idea too. -
ARCHIVED Can We Donate Bone Marrow?
Smunkeemom replied to Laura's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I can't donate anything because of severe anemia, I talked to the guy at the red cross though, and he said that celiacs can donate blood, if they aren't on any medications that are on the "forbidden list". My husband can't donate because of the meds, he is on for crohns for example. As far as the bone marrow thing, I don't know, but I think we can... -
