  1. You're not alone! Before my diagnosis I went months getting sicker and sicker. I still have a lot of stomach pain and trouble. It hurts if I don't eat, hurts if I do, and it doesn't seem to matter what it is that I eat. My weight dropped from 130 to 105. Since going gluten free I've gained some back, holding steady at 114, I eat because I have to, not...
  2. I know it's hard to change habits, and to "give up" many foods that are tied emotionally to our feeling of and need for feeling of well being. I think you have to convince yourself on both conscious and sub conscious levels that these foods are not good, will not make you feel good, and as a matter of fact are poison to your very existence! I tell myself...

    ARCHIVED Help!

I agree that the Dapsone may be worse than suffering through the itches! I had DH all over, and had it for many weeks before it subsided. As hard as it was not to scratch while awake, I was scratching in my sleep. I was using bath soaks, anything that soothed, and there is a clear calamine lotion that helped at least somewhat. It didn't draw as much attention...
  4. It's my understanding that both of them struggled with mental health/capacity issues. What I find so very sad is that apparently there isn't anyone there for them to care, help or even notice what a bizarre situation they were living with! They can't charge the boyfriend with negligence if he has not the capacity to understand right from wrong, or strange...
  5. Hi. I would go back to your doctor and ask specifically for those things you know are missing. They should be a part of the record, and you have every legal right to have a copy of those. If there is some reason that the doc. does not have those or is unwilling to give them to you , then he needs to tell you where to get them from. A simple phone call...
  6. Congradulations!!!! I hope that you are doing well and feeling wonderful! I'm still at the beginning stages and still learning and struggling. Queston.....how long before you started feeling halfway normal...or maybe you didn't have a lot of sickness. Just curious.
  7. Oh yeah, oh yeah. I'd wash my hair and have tons of it left in the tub.....lots of it on my pillow in the morning. It also has become very dry and "tough", not at all soft like before. I've been wearing short hair for a long time now, think I might cut it even shorter. The mouth issue is a worrisome one. I once had a dentist tell me the enamal issues...
  8. Hi. If you're getting itchy hives when you ingest gluten, that may be dermatitis herpetiformis, which is a skin manifestation of Celiac. A biopsy near the rash would be able to tell you. You can have Celiac without the intestinal damage. Have you had any blood tests? I would look into this further, and be persistant for answers. As far as constipation...
  9. We decided that if we were going to get a bread machine.....and that this diet is for life, we were going to get a really good model. I love the one I have; it's a Zojirushi. You put the wet ingrediants in the bottom, dry ones on top of that, and lastly the yeast on top. It has many settings, or you can store your own settings. Mostly I use the basic...
  10. What acronyms specifically are you looking for? That would be the place to start, so that they can be explained to you (and to most of us newbies). I can figure out most of them....I think. CC'd is cross contamination, Dx is diagnosis (right?), DH dermatitis herpetiformis, big D is diarhea, big C is constipation, ......what else? I only think I'm right...
  11. I agree about the iodine. I had to give up iodized salt, as well as ibuprofen, because I break out with DH everytime! What I don't know is if there is a tolerance level.....if some iodine is ok up to a certain point....or if any exposure at all is a trigger. Any thoughts on that?
  12. Hi. I'm also having trouble with coffee. I hate the thought of giving it up, I've practically lived on coffee for as long as I can remember. I'm down to drinking it only in the morning....forget the afternoon pot that I used to make...I bloat up like a pufferfish before I even get the first cup down. But then again, everything is doing that to me. I...
  13. Just chiming in....my DH was everywhere. There was not one area of my body that did not have burning, itchy blisters (so I guess you could say it did mirror itself...kinda like the funhouse mirrors without the fun). It took many months to clear up, but I kept getting blisters now and then...just a few here and there. Lately I've been getting lots of blisters...
  14. I have had my thyroid tested, but my overall symptoms are all so confusing. I had hyperthyroid, but my blood pressure has been VERY low, cold all of the time....so cold it's almost (sometimes is) painful. Irregular heartbeat...it goes on and on. I'm pretty sure that most of the symptoms I have are directly related to malabsorption. Anyway, I had my thyroid...
  15. Celiac isn't exactly like Diabetes....you don't have to conastantly monitor your body sysems! All you have to do is to be careful.....oh, so careful......of what it is that goes into your mouth! The initial healing may take a while...depending on just how sick you are. Patience, and trust, and feel free to lean on any of these wonderful, helpful people...
  16. I know exactly how it goes. I have no doubt that my mom has Celiac. After I have gently suggested for her to get tested and pointed out that almost everything that she has suffered with, and continues to suffer with, she decided that she's too old and doesn't want to contend with one more thing! Never mind that this one more thing could solve the puzzle...
  17. I seem to blister up with table salt or if I take ibuprofen. Not sure how long they last....looooong time. Seems I 'm still forever getting isolated blisters popping up here and there.
  18. Hi Virginia! My Dr. sent me to the University of Va in Charlottesville to see Dr. Sheila Crowe, who's supposed to be the area's expert. I saw a nutrionitst there, too. I got a lot more out of the nutrionist than I did anyone else! I had to wait a very long time to go......might be worth it to you. Good luck!
  19. I've also noticed lots of hair in the tub when I wash it, and lots of hair on my pillow in the mornings. I'm hoping that this will improve as my health improves (I hope, I hope, I hope). Mine pretty much started last year as I got sicker and sicker, and hasn't improved yet. I use a variety of shampoos, I've always been in the habit of rotating brands so...
  20. I had a break out of DH before I was diagnosed with Celiac. I was told...If you have DH, then you ARE Celiac. My tests all proved that I am. I had blisters absolutely everywhere! I thought it was poison Ivy, but it didn't really act like poison Ivy. Yes, I had it on the bottoms of my feet, the tops of my feet, between my toes, my legs, arms, belly chest...
  21. Check out Dr. Rodney Ford site. He has a lot of info. on the gut-brain-body connections. I took multivitamins for most of my adult life. I also took B supplements on top of that for years because of muscle cramps and nerve twitches (it helped a lot). I also have been taking Calcium with D for at least 10 years. Even with all of that I had anemia...
  22. Hi Thumper. No, it isn't much fun in the beginning. I really thought I would magically feel better quickly, at least I strongly hoped I would. Emotionally I was great, at first, except for being desperately ill. I was just so grateful to not have cancer or something that would require surgery, or nasty drugs or chemo. But, as time dragged on and healing...
  23. A doctor can take a biopsy of your skin near the lesions to verify dermatitis herpetiformis, but you can find info online (try Mayo clinic or webmd). It's said that it occurs mainly near elbows, knees, but people can and do get it everywhere (and I mean everywhere!) It IS caused by gluten...it is a skin form of Celiac Disease. You may get some relief with...
  24. Hi! I was finally diagnosed in November, 07. Even after all of this time I have a lot of illness, but I have seen some improvement. Seems like it's been forever! I thought I was dying last year...kept getting sicker and sicker and lost a lot of weight. Got so that I didn't want to eat anything, ever. If you read much in this forum, you'll see that some...
