  1. Sarah, your situation is nearly identical to mine except slightly worse as my in-laws live 5 miles away. My mother-in-law was sweet enough to ask the question, "is this genetic?" at the dinner table of 12 seated at a wedding shortly after my diagnosis. When I responded 'yes' she replied, "oh that's just great." My husband rarely says anything in my defense...
  2. It took about 1 year for me to feel really good. I also discovered a few months in to going gluten-free that I am intolerant to casein and soy as well. I still have days where I'm really tired. But I feel the best I have in my entire life.

    ARCHIVED Celiac Runners

I was an avid runner prior to falling very ill..diagnosed just over a year ago with gluten intolerance. I'm finally feeling ready to run again but am concerned about keeping my weight on. What do you runners eat to load up on carbs?
  4. I nursed both of my children for 14 months. They both have Celiac and had lots of tummy troubles. They both were very, very clingy and whiny and cried constantly. My pleasant mother in law accused me of spoiling them and catering to their every whim - but I knew my instincts and knew that my girls were in distress. Not wanting to put them through any...
  5. This is an interesting question. I had wondered if there was a correlation. I was SO sick during my two pregnancies. I threw up 10 times a day, every day, for 9 months. Both times. It was such a struggle. I was diagnosed after my second child was diagnosed at 14 months old. It's so amazing to me how much our bodies can take and how utterly clueless...
  6. vitalchoice.com vitalchoice salmon is really, really good. AND it is the only laboratory tested Salmon that has been proven to be mercury free. No preservatives, additives and gluten free. It's good stuff. I buy it by the case.
  7. Anyone had any good gluten-free experinces in Miami?
  8. Happy Birthday, Gluten-free Casein-free comrade! Don't damage your body on your special day, silly. I don't know if you have a health food store in your area...or, my local Kroger carries this product as well.. Pamela's Products chocolate brownie mix is Gluten-free Casein-free and has recipes on the bag to make a cake, brownies, or cookies. My children...
  9. Hello. My daughter was IgA deficient, negative biopsy, Positive for gluten intolerance from Enterolab. Dramatic, life changing, amazing, wonderful results since going gluten free
  10. Hello all. I am having great difficulty trying to get my child's teacher and pre-school adminstrator to understand how a bread crumb can make my daughter very ill. It's also difficult for them to understand how painful of a reaction this is for her - since it is delayed and not immediate like anaphalactic shock and therefore haven't witnessed a reaction...
  11. Here are some sights that list gluten free cooking classes. Not sure where you are located. Good luck! Glutenfreeda.com Therubyrange.com
  12. Hello. Does anyone have a successful play dough recipe? I realize that you can buy gluten-free play dough, but my daughter's preschool class is going to make their own for a class project. The teacher asked if I had a recipe that doesn't involve regular flour. I've never made any and didn't want to recommend a recipe until I know it works well. Thanks...
  13. Thank you everyone for your kind support. My in-law situation is not ideal, that's for sure. I've tried to educate them and brought up information about the prevelance of Celiac in Italy. When my Mother-in-law finally stopped making negative comments was when I told her that her son (my husband) tested positive for gluten intolerance (through Enterolab...
  14. Did you say that Dr. Fine's office (Enterolab) told you that it's impossible that your baby has celiac disease?
  15. I have a "dealing with other people" vent...this has been bothering me ever since it happened and I guess I just needed to share to get it off my chest once and for all...i love this board! It was just three weeks after I had found out myself and my two children are gluten intolerant - an overwhelming time for me, as most here can relate. My world was...
  16. Hello. I was diagnosed gluten intolerant 'after' both of my pregnancies. I carried both children full term. I was SO sick during both of my pregnancies. I know now that it was just too much for my body to handle since I was still consuming gluten at the time. So hopefully, if you are very strict about your diet and don't cheat than maybe it would improve...
  17. For me it was an allergy symptom. I had a terrible reaction to an antibiotic where I broke out in an itchy rash. My anus, however, was the absolute worst, itchy place! I coudn't believe it. I'm laughing, I never thought I would post something like this...
  18. I've had about a half dozen airline meals - all on Northwest. Not sure what airline you're flying and how similiar they are, but these are items that I've been served: Veggie Omelet Corn muffin Lettuce Side Salad Entree salad (lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, radishes) Huge fruit plate for lunch or a side of fruit with other meals Ham and cheese rice...
  19. Hello. I know it's a big shot in the dark, but just wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin deficiency? I feel like I lost the gene pool gamble. I have Celiac and because two cousins of mine have Alpha-1 I was tested and diagnosed with it as well. Absolutely nothing you can do about it - just makes a person aware that there...
  20. Hello. Does anyone know which brands of the gummy type fruit snacks are gluten-free? Thanks!
  21. Well, we took our info to our accountant and he told us to not even bother with the gluten-free deductions. He said it's a bit of a red flag for an audit and you have to have impecable record keeping for the year in the instance there were an audit...just a little tidbit of info.
  22. Has anyone here made deductions on your taxes for the extra cost of gluten free food? Considering what it has been costing us to keep our family on a gluten free diet we looked into income tax deduction possibilities to help deter the cost. Apparently, the Internal Revenue Service does allow income tax deductions for people with dietary restrictions. We...
  23. I would appreciate any suggestions regarding places to eat in Maui that are accomodating to Celiacs. Thanks so much!
  24. Dear Jeremy's Mom: I wish I had an answer for you...I would be interested in what other people say about this as well. My daughter who is almost 4 has the exact same problem, minus the sleep walking. She wakes up screaming several times a night when she has a gluten accident. I know it's coming too when during the day she cries at absolutely everything...
  25. Thank you Donna - and everyone else. I'm learning a lot about myself as well as other people during this whole process of living life gluten free. I've since gotten over my little ordeal with the other mom...it just helped me to get it off my chest in this forum. It does help to know that someone out there understands exactly how I feel. I realize that...
