ARCHIVED Correllation Between Celiac And Acne
curlyfries replied to waterfaul's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've had problems with acne to one degree or another all my adult life. Staying away from caffeine keeps the cystic acne away. I am 49 and still have oily skin (but practically no wrinkles ) When I went gluten free my face started clearing up, then it got worse again. That was about the time I realized I needed to stay away from dairy. I could look in the... -
ARCHIVED My Wonderful Milestone
curlyfries replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bravo!!! That is truly inspiring!!! I know there is more to me than what I have felt like for so many years. I am sometimes not sure who the real me is. The other day someone was joking with me and I had a really good snappy comeback. I think I surprised everyone. I'm usually much too subdued (interpret: brain-foggy) to be so clever! I usually think of a... -
ARCHIVED Peeling Skin?
curlyfries replied to Babs67's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've never really had to deal with dry skin---I'm definitely oily. I've always said I'm still going thru puberty I'm going to go straight from puberty to menopause ( I'm 49) But I've noticed in the last couple of days that the bottom of my right foot is peeling quite a lot---big pieces near the heel. I don't have any blisters and definitely no athletes... -
Funny you should mention it, because, well....me too like...right now...for the first time in ages I'm not one to usually have bathroom problems. I've had hemorrhoids occassionally way in the past, but it's been a long time. It would usually happen at the start of my time of the month (just like now) and would be accompanied by looser stools. Sorry, I...

ARCHIVED Heartburn?
curlyfries replied to Donna49's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For me, going gluten free was a learning process, so I was gluten lite at first. I had had relux (with heartburn) for many years and took Prilosec all that time. I found that yogurt helped immensely if I ate it every day. I finally was able to stop taking medication for it. After I had been gluten lite for a while I pretty much stopped eating yogurt because... -
Hi Alexandra! I'm Lisa, and I live in Indianapolis. I have a 22 yr old daughter and I think she is finally starting to believe me that she has a gluten intollerance. She tried to get the doctor to test her but he won't unless I get tested. Too late now. I refuse to go back on a gluten diet. I don't know where Huntington is. So what brings you to the...

ARCHIVED Earthquake In The Midwest
curlyfries replied to curlyfries's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My 22 yr old daughter slept through the whole thing! ( but of course, she is medicated for restless leg and narcolepsy ) And just some more info---it was a 5.4 on the richter scale. -
I thought someone would have started the topic already, so I guess I will. I live in Indianapolis and I felt the sofa shake and could hear the pictures rattling against the wall. Strange thing----when I stood up many minutes later, I was dizzy. Still am a little bit. But that has to be coincidental. I haven't had a dizzy episode in a long time. So who else...

Before I went gluten free I couldn't handle coffee. I don't drink it very often anyway. I assumed it had gluten, but after I had been gluten free awhile I saw on this forum that my brand was safe, so I tried it again---no problems Lisa

Before I took out sugar I stopped eating the tangerines I was having every day. I think that was a big contributor. I would get a burning in my stomach and chest and I had a sore throat ( and that lump-in-the-throat feeling). I try to stay away from Prilosec now because I was on it for such a long time. And I have been able to control it with my diet. Lisa

I had acid reflux before going gluten free and then it went away, once on the diet. But recently it came back. One of my symptoms with reflux is that my throat will gurgle. Sort of like a burp, but burps come from much further down. This starts from the upper part of my throat. I eliminated sugar and it is getting better. (I have already eliminated dairy...

Oh wow!! I was wrong--- it hasn't even been 2 months !!! Lisa

Hi Jo! I did the same thing, lurking in the shadows, but only for a couple months. And this was also my first time posting online, anywhere. (I had to get my daughter's help ) During that two months I googled the heck out of this forum I can't believe I have only been a member for just a little over 2 months! I also can't believe that in that time I have...

ARCHIVED Kroger's New Labeling
curlyfries replied to almostnrn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the help! I thought I had looked under "nutrition" ! Wow, they really give a lot of info that would be helpful to newbies, even if they don't have a Kroger. I have 4 Krogers within 20 minutes of my house, but I've never seen the shelf tags some of you mentioned. Even the website says they have them . I've been to all of them, as each one has... -
ARCHIVED Coconut Oil
curlyfries replied to mama2two's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow, thanks ! Everything I wanted to know and more! Lisa -
I know I would also find it extremely difficult to stay gluten-free if I had no symptoms. Any time I am tempted to cheat, I remember my mother who died too young of colon cancer. There are many others here with similar stories. That could be you one day. Maybe that is the kind of incentive you need. Hang in there Lisa

Crest also has a toothpaste for sensitive teeth, and a lot of people have mentioned that Crest is gluten-free. Lisa -
ARCHIVED Coconut Oil
curlyfries replied to mama2two's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm glad you brought up this topic! I was thinking about trying coconut oil, so do you mind if I add a question of my own? I saw some at Walmart with the vitamins (don't remember the brand) but wasn't sure if maybe it would be inferior quality if it was some off-brand. Are there good coconut oils and bad coconut oils? Lisa -
ARCHIVED Storage Question
curlyfries replied to GlutenGalAZ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you want to freeze a lot of entrees but don't want to to buy a bunch of pyrex, line the container with foil or parchment, put in entree, then stick in the freezer. Once it's frozen, pop it out and stick into a ziploc. Better yet, vacuum seal, if you have one. I love mine! Lisa -
ARCHIVED My Metabolism Stinks!
curlyfries replied to cmichelle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is what I have been trying to do. I have been overweight for a long time, but I have not felt good for a long time---until going gluten free. When I started eating gluten-free, I realized that a lot of my replacement foods contained rice flour. So I figured if I have to change my diet anyway, might as well REALLY change it. Don't just replace everything... -
ARCHIVED Wisconsin - Progresso Creamy Mushroom Soup
curlyfries replied to tee0007's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So far, I haven't had any luck here in Indy. I've looked in Kroger, Marsh and Walmart. Lisa -
I don't know if one month gluten free will be enough for him to see a difference in his fibromyalgia. It's been over 2 months for me and there's been no change as yet. However, there is a big difference with other issues . Hopefully he will see a difference in other ways that will motivate him to stick with it---provided you can get him to try it. I...

ARCHIVED Candida?
curlyfries replied to curlyfries's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been squeezing lemon in my water for a long time, but have only been eating the tangerines for a few weeks---1-2 a day almost every day. So maybe I will try putting the lemon in my water again and see what happens ( I so like it better that way ) My throat is almost back to normal and the reflux is gone (so is the itching...still not sure what... -
ARCHIVED Severe Pain? Gluten Or Something Else
curlyfries replied to AllieB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was gluten-lite for about a year before I went gluten free. And like you, there were things with gluten that I could eat and not have a problem. Going gluten free was so overwhelming to me that I did it in stages. But once I went gluten free, I can't handle ANY gluten exposure.( I thought I would be one of those who didn't have enough of a sensitiviy to...
