  1. Thanks Rachel, I know we'll get there eventually. It is great to be able to come here to compare notes, because there are so many variables. Monday we have an upper endoscopy scheduled, so hopefully we get some more good information from that.
  2. Thank you all for your help. I hadn't figured it out yet, and finally called Enterolab today, and was promised a callback in 48 hours, which didn't thrill me. But now I really don't need them, thanks to you. But it is just so complicated, isn't it? Fedora, we did do the malabsorption test, and we were both o.k. there. However, my daughter was also...
  3. My son had his 6 month gluten free follow-up a little early because he is having continued tummy pain and esophageal issues. His antibody levels were a 6, with 3 the highest normal. The nurse pointed out that he had come down a long way (from 216) and said it just may take him a while. How much would you worry about this?
  4. Can anyone tell me if it is worse to have both elevated Fecal Antigliadin & Fecal Antitissue Transglutaminase, rather than just the first? We got our Enterolab results today, and I'm comparing my daughter and myself. Fecal Antigliadin IgA - Hers - 182, Mine - 16 Fecal Antitissue Transglutaminase IgA - Hers 103, mine -normal range (8) I know...
  5. Kim, thank you for bringing this up. My son lives on these and I never thought to question them, but after your question I did a search through the board and found that Quaker responds to inquiries that they cannot guarantee their rice cakes to be gluten free. If his IgA that we are waiting for comes back high, I will know one of the main culprits. Yikes...
  6. O.K., I can't stand it anymore, I keep waiting for the apology which doesn't seem to be coming, so . . . Rachel, I don't know you, but I have definitely benefited from your expertise on these boards, so I would like to say that I am very sorry you were addressed as you were in this thread. Since I also don't know the other individual involved, I am going...
  7. Thank you for your help, Vicky & RiceGuy. I think you are both right that I should seek some expert advice outside of the traditional medical field. We have seen 2 nutritionists & haven't gotten a lot of help, although to be fair, the second one did find the vitamins he can tolerate, plus wants us to do some liquid supplementation I haven't been...
  8. I've read a lot here about adult celiacs and vitamin supplements, but I am reluctant to apply these things to my 8 year old. I have mentioned to our pediatrician and two specialists that I'd like to have his blood levels checked for nutrients, and they all say hmmm and don't do it. Maybe I'm not asking the right way or being persistent enough. Last...
  9. Diane, the advice we were given was to totally binge on a new food when it was added, presumably so that any problems show up right away. Then we were to wait 3 days before adding an additional new food. I think later once you know what the issues are you can try rotating foods in and out, but we aren't there yet. Our nutritionist said even 3 days is problematic...
  10. Diane, we have recently done an elimination diet for my son for the same reasons you have - stomach pain despite being gluten free. As soon as he started the diet he noticed a reduction in pain that continued over several days until he was almost pain free. (He kept saying, there must have been gluten in those foods, there must have been!) Our nutritionist...
  11. Pirate Booty, Fruity Booty & Veggie Booty by Robert's American Gourmet Snacks are great food for babies. They are healthy & dissolve in your mouth, making choking impossible. I can't promise they won't be messy, but at least it won't be a gluten mess.
  12. Stacie, we have just done the enterolab tests for my daughter and myself, and they do have a test that might help you. Here is what they say about it: "Stool test (fecal IgA antibody*) for immunologic sensitivity to the main proteins contained in cow's milk and other dairy products." It is free right now with their complete panel, so we did it, but...
  13. You are so right, and I didn't mention before that she was totally sweet and adorable. Hope I didn't seem critical, I was actually hoping to hear some other interesting things people had learned on their celiac journeys that they might not have learned otherwise.
  14. Oh, no! I hope I'm not giving anyone any ideas - wouldn't that be awful? I could google gills to see if there is anything odd out there, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to know . . .
  15. Surgically, I guess, given that there were scars. Apparently we all have gills in the womb, another interesting fact I learned from our waitress.
  16. Today we went out to eat at a restaurant with a gluten free menu. We felt guilty because our 8 year old always feels bad after he eats out, but he has been feeling bad lately even when we eat at home, and we all needed a change of scenery. We gave the waitress our Triumph Dining card and explained everything and she was so sympathetic. THEN she knelt...
  17. [Zucchini bread - I had forgotten he used to eat that. I'm going to make some right away. Thanks for these ideas, plus your post above. You've given me some things to think about . . .
  18. Allie, this recipe looks delicious, healthy & easy, and I will try it for my daughter, for whom we are awaiting enterolab results, and the rest of us. However, my little guy would not be able to bring himself to try this. He can't do combined ingredients, with only a couple of exceptions like cereal with rice milk and brownies. He eats no fresh fruit...
  19. I missed this earlier, so I just said a prayer. You are definitely due for a healthy, painfree streak, and I hope it is here soon. I also wanted to say thank you for doing so much thinking about other folks, like my little guy you've given all the good ideas for, when you probably feel like tearing your hair out. -Jane
  20. I have to admit, thinking about villi and what is or isn't attached to them makes me a little queasy. But I made it to the bottom of your post, just to feel really virtuous about the glass of wine I'm going to get right now. Any more supporting evidence for wine or chocolate, I'm all ears.
  21. You've gotten the lowdown, but I can add one suggestion. Vasoline. If your skin is the least bit sensitve, use it before and throughout the prep. Babywipes aren't always enough! Hope it is a breeze for you. -Jane
  22. Allie, what a difficult age to go through all of that. I appreciate you taking the time to share your story, it really does help to hear from someone who took a long time to heal, but still ended up doing so well. How you managed to skip a year after all of that is really impressive. Thank you for the encouragement, and good luck on exams.
  23. Yikes! It is Rice Dream that we use. Do you know of any safe brands? How do they get away with this? The veggies in meat loaf is not a bad idea, I would just have to puree them so he won't know they are there. He eats cold rice cereals but won't eat any hot cereals. The suspicious little guy would never eat anything he wasn't totally sure about...
  24. Tamara, Sandi & Flourgirl, I hear you all, and totally agree with the tough love approach. It is just not the easiest for me. I have never managed to get my child to eat a single fruit or vegetable, and believe me, I've tried, so you can see who wins many of the battles of the will in my house. There are of course things I put my foot down about,...
  25. I hear you, Phyllis, and I have always had the same rules. I've just been feeling so sorry for my son lately, that they are getting harder to justify.
