  1. I was a Udi's guy for a while, but I personally found the bread to be too "airy", and it's often oddly misshapen. However, I just tried Katz's Gluten Free white bread, and it's amazing. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link A quick pop in the toaster, and I was unlike any gluten-free bread I've ever tried. Soft, chewy, and the crust...
  2. Anything made in a fryer in a fast-food restaurant is taking a real gamble.
  3. Just an update, the folks at Joans are pushing back the release of their bialys until sometime in February, maybe March. If/when I learn more, I'll post.
  4. I'm not associated with Joan's Gluten Free Great Bakes ( Open Original Shared Link ), just a customer. But I was in there this week, and although they'll be closed the week between Christmas and New Years, they plan to start offering their Gluten Free Bialys in January Luckily for me, I got a sample when I went in to pick up my supplies, and mmm mmm...
  5. Most bars have a single sink to wash their glasses, where they simply dip the dirty glass in the soapy water, then rinse it off. It's not a very sterile environment as far as the celiac is concerned. Bigger restaurants with a bar have a dishwasher in the back that they might use, but they have the sink at the bar as well. My advice is to see if you...
  6. Technically, you don't need to worry much. You have to assume that food from restaurants WILL be contaminated in some way. Even if the owners/managers have the best of intentions, the reality is that kitchen staff aren't going to care enough to take the necessary steps they're probably not even aware of. They're not going to sterilize stuff after they...
  7. Although I've yet to try it, my gluten-free sister went to the Uno's Chicago Grill (I guess it's not Pizzeria Uno anymore?) in Bayside, NY and had their gluten-free Pizza and a Redbridge beer. She said she loved it, and we've had Glutino, Pizza's by George and all sorts of other kind of gluten-free Pizza options (as well as the local "Lame Advertisement...
  8. I want to give another thumbs up for Joans Gluten Free Great Bakes ( Open Original Shared Link ). They are definitely expensive $8 for 5 fairly small bagels, plus shipping charges. But they come as DOUGH. You bake them. The bagel comes out of your oven piping hot and fresh. If you're just sick and tired of toasting frozen, already-baked bagels, this...
  9. I used to really love Glutino bagels, but within the past month or so, they've changed their recipe. Now, instead of being somewhat lighter and almost airy, they are dense and heavy. I won't buy them anymore. If they ever change the recipe back, I used to prepare them like the poster above: Micro for 30 seconds to slice, then toast. Halfway...
  10. I really chose a bad time to move out of the neighborhood! I hope to make it in, either way. Thanks for the heads up
  11. Out of utter random coincidence, I stopped on the way from NYC to Vermont off the Taconic Parkway in Dutchess County, New York, in the town of Lagrangeville. There I found a a tiny diner/coffee shop in a kinda hidden shopping center in the absolute middle of nowhere. It was listed as "Gracie's Cafe" on the GPS system, but the sign outside said "Shamrock Cafe...
  12. Just wanted to chime in again that I've tried a bunch of the Green's gluten-free beers, and they're all quite good. I love a good dark beer, and Green's offers lots of options. Unfortunately, they are very, very expensive. Like $3 for a 20 oz bottle where I am. Since I can get Redbridge for $7.50/six pack, I will generally go for the Redbridge.
  13. I was told that Bistango is now offering Gluten-Free Pizzas. Can't confirm, but if true, makes it even more of a reason to stop by
  14. Just want to add that in Rockville Centre, there's a restaurant called Open Original Shared Link, that has a Gluten Free menu. One of the owner's family is Celiac, so they have a dedicated kitchen within the establishment for Gluten Free cooking to avoid cross-contamination. That includes a deep fryer, for big steak fries Redbridge beer in bottles...
  15. I didn't have a negative reaction to Redbridge, but now that I read what some posters have said, I am a bit leery. Not to shill, but dedicated Gluten Free Brewers go out of their way to tell you exactly what they do to keep their products free of gluten (as was illustrated by the Bard's Tale FAQ). The Redbridge site was very, very vauge. I think those...
