  1. These specifically are okay-they came from a gluten-free list on delphi forums: VODKAS: Gordons Popov Relska Smirnoff Smirnoff Black Smirnoff Citrus Twist Smirnoff Orange Twist Smirnoff Raspberry Twist Smirnoff Vanilla Twist
  2. McCormick's and Penzey's are both okay. If what you have is PURE vanilla extract and not vanilla FLAVORING, it is probably okay.
  3. I know that most here take any threat of cross-contamination very seriously, as do I. However, I find it very had to believe that any serious contamination can occur from storing food in plastic containers which may have previously been used to hold pasta or such. Personally, I always wash my plastic in the dishwasher between uses. Do I really need to...
  4. This is not an introduction but I just wanted to comment on the DQ thing. One of my co-worker's parents owns a DQ and I asked her if there is a chance of cone pieces getting in the dipped cone chocolate topping and she said "Yes, definitely, and they just add to it when it gets low." (Meaning, they don't clean it out and put fresh chocolate in. They just...
  5. I have sworn off eating anything out of fast food "packets" unless it has a brand name that I have checked out. A lot of places have Heinz ketchup in packets and I'll use that because it's gluten-free. But I wouldn't use it if I wasn't familiar with the brand. As for vegetable shortening as an ingredient in a manufactured item, I think it would depend...
  6. Hey, Jessica - thanks for the Nature Made info. Guess I got some bad info - I don't even remember now where I heard that they were all gluten-free. I'm going to check with them on the ones I take.

    ARCHIVED Health Insurance

I am sure it has a lot to do with our increased chances for other autoimmune disorders which would increase their costs, and the increase chance of lymphoma. More doctor appts, any way you look at it. They aren't going to insure any demographic if they don't think they'll make money from it.
  8. Thanks for the info. I have been once before and just fell in love with the country. I guess I'll follow the "if in doubt, don't" rule and try to stay healthy while there. Don't want to spend my trip in the bathroom! I do like my occasional Harp but I will stick to hot whiskey and clove or "irish" coffee!
  9. All Nature Made vitamins are gluten-free - I used them for years before finding out I had celiac disease - just bought some calcium w/Magnesium and Zinc a couple of days ago, in fact. I prefer that brand because they're available everywhere and reasonably priced.
  10. I have no idea if it's gluten-free or not, but I do have a story about Tone. When I was a very young teenager (early 80s) I used Tone soap one time and had a bad allergic reaction - itched like crazy. That was way before I knew anything about this disease - in fact, I was just diagnosed about 3 weeks ago, so this is like ancient history. I wonder though...
  11. My understanding is that you can't eat anything Kelloggs, and probably not any other "big brand" cereals either (mainly due to cross-contamination, but they add a bunch of other "stuff" too). I have found gluten-free cereals on the gourmet aisle in Publix, and I bought some at a local specialty store, too, before I realized that Publix had some. The corn...
  12. What is your experience with balsamic? I had some Heinz balsamic vinegar on a salad the other day and then I read the Heinz gluten-free list and it wasn't on it. I had some tummy trouble and the vinegar was all I could figure it was (unless it was just the roughage from the greens). Anyone else tried it?
  13. As for the shrimp seasonings -- I checked and Old Bay is okay (made by McCormicks) and of course you can easily make homemade cocktail sauce with Heinz ketchup, Lea & Perrins worchestershire, lemon juice (fresh preferably - or ReaLemon is gluten-free) and tons of horseradish if you're game for that! In my opinion, the more the better! We never buy...
  14. Trader Joes or Whole Foods would probably have the most stuff. Whole Foods in Wheaton, I believe it is, is a big supporter of the gluten-free Group up there. I love Trader Joes. Miss it a lot. There's several of both of these stores scattered all around up there.
  15. Hope I'm not too late to do any good for your weekend trip. This is from another post on this site and lists Chicago restaurants. I can vouch for the yumminess of these: Frontera Grill or Topolobampo if you like true Mexican, PF Chang's for Chinese. Both excellent. Great time to go to Chicago. Lived there for 3 1/2 years - never so cold in my life...
  16. I am going to Ireland in February and am going to be very sad if I can't have fish and chips. . . Since Celiac is so commonly diagnosed and understood there, does anyone know if the restaurants are gluten-free-friendly? I am mainly concerned because we really enjoy the smaller towns and that's where I'd be most worried about being acommodated. Anyone from...
  17. I was specifically inquiring about their confectioner's sugar, but looks like all are okay. Domino Family of Products: Granulated Sugar Superfine Sugar Cubes & Tablets Sugar Packets Sugar Sticks Organic Sugar Brown Sugar Brownulated
  18. Amy, There are quite a few different blends I have read about on this forum and the SillyYaks forum (Yahoo). There are recipes on SillyYaks in the Files - along with a bunch of other good info. Go back and read the old posts under this forum - the info is all there. Also, I haven't personally seen them, but I hear the Betty Hagman cookbooks all have her...
  19. I posted a list on July 12 that I received from Clinique that included Clinique/Estee Lauder/MAC and several other brand names. Go back a page or two on the gluten-free Products, Shopping etc forum (it's the next one down from this one on the master list) and look for the post. It lists all the ingredients in these brand name items to stay away from. ...
  20. I agree, Pinkyagogo - this thing is manageable, not terminal and more healthy. It could be much, much worse. It's only food. (And it's my understanding that at Starbucks we can have coffee! I certainly hope so, because I've been drinking it.)
  21. Received this e-mail today 7-21-04 from Mt. Olive: Thanks for your interest in Mt. Olive Pickle products. According to the information provided by our ingredient suppliers, all of our products are gluten-free except for these three items: our HOT DOG RELISH, our SWEET INDIA RELISH, and our NO SUGAR ADDED SWEET GHERKINS. (Each of these contains gluten...
  22. When a person is ill, it is our first instinct and human nature to try to correlate any symptoms with that illness. However, we would all be wise to remember that moderation is the key in all that we do. Anytime we make a pig of ourselves, our body is going to remind us that it was not designed to handle more that it needs to survive. Even the most benign...
  23. I bought Kraft shredded cheeses this past weekend for my first gluten-free pizza - they are gluten-free - the stuff on them for anti-sticking is potato starch, not flour. She probably got sick from the taco seasoning. Seasoning blends are always suspicious, esp taco for some reason. I am a huge Penzey's Spices fan and the only products they sell which...

    ARCHIVED Scottdale, Az

I'd try to get a referral to Mayo if it was me. There's a Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale.

Don't know that area but if you can come to Jacksonville you can go to Mayo Clinic. Can't beat it.
