ARCHIVED 5 Years gluten-free- Still Having Health Issues
jhow32000 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been strictly gluten-free since college. Some of my problems got much better, psychiatric sx, wasting, severe acne, severe bone pain. It almost seems like now I have more health issues. Lately I have still been having acne, joint pain the moves around a lot, severe colon and stomach pains, liver, spleen and kidney pain, insomnia and NO libido. I have... -
ARCHIVED Any Suggestion On A Weight Loss Plan?
jhow32000 replied to dolly's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Someone should make a play on the Nutrisystem plan and call it Free From Glutrasystem. I'd pay for pre-portioned gluten-free meals aimed at weight loss. -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Now Raw And gluten-free?
jhow32000 replied to jhow32000's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am in need of some more recipes that don't involve a dehydrator that has temp settings. I have one that is a piece of work. I have tried some soups that were good, just did some cookies that were ok, I do berry and green smoothies with raw farm eggs in them, but what else? Oh, the banana ice cream is great. What can I do with eggplant? I really am... -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Now Raw And gluten-free?
jhow32000 replied to jhow32000's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes the SCDiet is the specific carbohydrate diet for people with celiacs, ulcerative colitis, crohn's etc. It heals the gut by taking complex carbs out of the mix completely along with lactose. Lactase is often the first enzyme to stop being produced when there is villi damage...why alot of celiacs are lactose intolerant. Anyway, you can look the basic plan... -
I am having a few issues: my hair is falling out majorly I am having hypoglycemic fits still I am fatigued all the time I am cold sensitive I have no libido I have weight gain that I can't lose I have been told this is all related to endocrine problems most likely. ARCHIVED I Cannot Believe This
jhow32000 replied to holiday16's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yup, kids have to learn by experience sometimes just like the rest of us. Despite warnings older kids will gluten themselves. I would make it very clear to her that this is her own doing and that her pain and agitation is a consequence of eating gluten. On another note, I understand the temptation to eat things you really like that everyone else can eat.... -
ARCHIVED Daughter Has Foot Pain
jhow32000 replied to mommyfish4's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Definitely this is related to the Celiacs. I have always had horrendous leg pain that started also in my joints. Your poor daughter. The docs couldn't figure out what was wrong and always just prescribed painmeds. If your daughter is gluten-free she should not be having these pains so either her gut is not healing very quickly or she is getting contaminated... -
Since many of us are lactose intolerant and soy is a really unhealthy alternative, here is a coconut milk ice cream recipe that could not be easier. 1 can of Port Arthur or other coconut milk whatever treats you like in your ice cream just put the can of coconut milk in your fridge until you don't hear sloshing when you shake the can pour the contents...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Symptoms, Plz Help
jhow32000 replied to purple's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My sister has/had them, almost exactly what your daughter is showing. She will do well on a strict gluten free diet. I always recommend the Specific Carbohydrate Diet for people in such a bad state as your daughter. You can google it to find out more. My sister had such bad menstrual problems, endometriosis and cysts that she was told she would be infertile... -
ARCHIVED Dd Still Not Absorbing Nutrients?
jhow32000 replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's odd, I thought I had already replied to this post. You absolutely have an option in the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I recommend it highly. It is a gut healing diet for Celiacs, Crohn's, Ulcerative Colitis and is now being used for Autism and Schizophrenia. It takes all of the hard to digest foods out of the diet and only leaves the very easy ones,... -
OMG, NO!!! You should not be taking this, esp during the most important trimester in your babies development. All you have to do is google Dapsone and you'll see that the research either contraindicates the Dapsone during preg/lact or says they are not sure it is safe. I know the DH is painful but you have to suck it up for your baby. My sister is experiencing...

ARCHIVED Pregnant And Eating Gluten
jhow32000 replied to jlynn's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yikes. With the unreliability of celiac disease testing I would not, not, not, eat gluten while pregnant if you don't KNOW you are NOT a celiac. The reproductive and gestational implications of doing so if you do have celiac disease are serious. Some of these include spontaneous abortion, low birth weight, premature labor, and shortened duration of lactation... -
I have been gluten-free for quite a long time now, 5 years or so, and am still having health problems. I decided to try the SCDiet and it helped tremendously--this is a gut healing diet. But now that I know what it feels like to be moderately healthy I want to be truly healthy. I have not been eating sugar or grains, and have been buying organic, whole farm...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free, Dairy Free And Still Overeating!
jhow32000 replied to delilah's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't have weight to lose but I overeat on a regular basis...not lightly either (3000 or so cal/day). I have had to abstain from the gluten-free things I know I cannot eat just a little of. gluten-free processed foods tend to be even more processed than non-gluten-free stuff and just as bad for you. I follow the SCD diet, you can google it. The only things... -
My sister is gluten-free and breastfeeding. She has been broken out terribly since giving birth and would like to use something to relieve her pain. What is safe to use while BFing? Everything topical I have heard of and looked up are not safe or have not been studied.

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Antibiotic Cure?
jhow32000 replied to Ali82's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would like to read that article as well. However, I would never want to start eating glutenous foods again and try to stay away from all grains as in unsprouted form they are not healthy for any of us. I don't think I would wreck my general health and gut flora by taking antibiotics long term so that I could go eat at Mc Donalds with my friends. Also, you... -
ARCHIVED Natural Healing Alternatives
jhow32000 replied to jasuko1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My whole family found out we are celiac around the same time. We did the specific carbohydrate diet for a year without taking meds. It is a gut healing diet that is highly effective and which can be modified as long as you follow that basic tenant of eating only what is highly nutritious and easily digested. I highly recommend this diet. -
ARCHIVED General Advice/symptoms
jhow32000 replied to flutterby's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh boy. Not sure what your doc's line of reasoning is because is she/he were going to order blood tests they would do it while you are on gluten to see if you have any antibodies related to celiac disease in your blood. Asking someone to go off gluten and then back on it is not nice, because it is painful to do if you really do have celiac disease. However... -
ARCHIVED Left Side Pain
jhow32000 replied to jewi0008's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'd like to know about this too. I have been strictly gluten-free for 4 years now but for the past 7 months off and on I have been getting a debilitating pain in my left side. At first it was down where your ovaries are then it traveled up higher to where your kidney would be and spread around my back. I still have no idea what's going on. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal
jhow32000 replied to MPARANA's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes. It seems that cleaning out your system like this makes you either much more in tune with your body or just sensitizes you to chemicals. Sometimes going gluten-free cleans up your diet majorly, many go organic and whole food as well so you get a decent amount of detoxing from this I believe. It is a good thing that you are becoming more sensitive to dangers... -
ARCHIVED Dd Still Not Absorbing Nutrients?
jhow32000 replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Some people don't heal, some don't heal for years. A big problem might be taking her off of gluten and putting her on a gluten free diet that is high in processed gluten-free foods that are hard to digest. I recommend--highly-- the specific carbohydrate diet for her. Basically it cuts out dairy and any carbs that are not monosaccharides. you can google it... -
ARCHIVED Hypoglycemia Or Type 1 Diabetes
jhow32000 replied to jhow32000's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I want to know your results if you don't mind sharing. I know what you are talking about with the doctors, ugh. -
You got inadvertant contamination, which happens frequently until you learn not to eat processed foods...even gluten-free ones make me sick sometimes. Eating anything without a specific gluten-free label on it is dangerous. Don't be discouraged, you cannot protect yourself completely and will certainly get glutened occaissionally in the future. You have not...

ARCHIVED After Cutting Gluten Out Of Your Diet, Is This What Happens?
jhow32000 replied to blondebombshell's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm not going to give you a lecture about the serious effects of cheating since you didn't do it on purpose. But yes, after going strictly gluten-free if you get contaminated foods you will most likely have an immediate and more severe reaction than you noticed prior to going gluten-free. It is a good incentive not to cheat. Everyone notices some different...
