  1. have you checked out the CrockPot Lady's website? she's making something in the crock every day this year - gluten free. i'm addicted to the website. Open Original Shared Link i've tried a few recipes and have had pretty good results. i made the Brown Sugar Chicken a few days ago and my boyfriend loved it! granted...it doesn't feel like real...

    ARCHIVED Joint Pain

i was diagnosed with trochantaric bursitis (read: pain in my hip joints) about 4 or 5 months before i started on my Celiac quest. i was tested for everything under the sun when dealing with my hip pains. Rhumatoid arthritis, lupus, mono, thyroid diseases, Lymes in addition to tons of xrays and an MRI...most tests were done more than once. at one point...
  3. the church is Catholic. how much money is appropriate from a godparent? bonds are the best thing, right? that way the parents can hide them away 'til the kid is old enough to be responsible...that's what my mom did when i was born and got a bunch from relatives. i get very worked up when it comes to gift giving...it just never feels like i'm...
  4. i am not religious so i'm a total dud when it comes to pretty much anything that takes place in a church. please bear with me. my boyfriend's nephew's Christening is coming up in a few weeks and he was asked to be the godfather. the actual ceremony is formal, right? what's the "dress code" for such an event? of course, he will be in a shirt and tie...
  5. wow - that's awesome! i'm very happy for you. if only we could all be so lucky as to encounter wonderful doctors like yours.
  6. OMG Shay - you are too funny! i love reading your posts - thank you so much. and you're right...if i had to pick a gene to pass on, this would be it! i just made an appt with my PCP back home to review all the results and see what he thinks. i'll be losing my insurance at the end of September and would like one last follow up before i can't afford it...
  7. As my doctor told me earlier in the week, i have 1 of the 2 Celiac genes. i asked for a copy of the results to see for myself. it's saying i have the DQ2 gene. the doctor won't diagnose me because i don't have both genes and my biopsy was negative (though the blood was positive). He's in idiot with limited knowledge of the disease and i don't currently...
  8. A few months ago, I gave my employer my resignation (4 weeks notice). About 10 days later, i was offered the opportunity to tele-commute for a few months until they hired and trained a replacement. It's been 6 weeks and everything is going pretty well. My boss just called and told me my last day will be in 4 weeks. I can accept that and understand their...
  9. yup, it sounds like a routine blood draw. they took about 4 or 6 vials when i had mine done. make sure you eat a bunch of gluten tonight - have pizza or pasta or something. your blood work will be skewed if you're not consuming gluten.
  10. ooh Fiddle-Faddle, that sounds wonderfully easy! i'm giddy with excitement to try them!! :D thanks!!
  11. sounds like i better do a trial run with both brands before next weekend! i do like the idea about making our own though...i'll have to check the stores to see if they sell pre-made crusts.
  12. i don't have kids so i don't really have anything to add except to say that Shay gives the best advise...about everything! i always look forward to what Shay has to say about any topic that is posted on this board. (i think i have a secret crush on you, Shay! )
  13. one of my friends is coming into town next weekend to visit and i'm trying to plan meals. i'm the Celiac, not her, but she knows all about it (her dad, aunt and uncle all have it). my boyfriend is dying for pizza (he's gone without for 6 weeks now in support of me) so i told them they could order one and i would try not to cry too much. i want to get...
  14. shoot shoot shoot!! i just got back from the store and totally forgot to get tuna! it was half the reason i went. darn it. now i have to go out again tomorrow night. i've never heard of making tuna with cottage cheese. i imagine the texture would be odd and i'm not good with stuff like that. i might give it a try though because i know i should cut...
  15. thanks elonwy - i'm going shopping tonight!
  16. i had tuna for lunch (canned Geisha light chunk in water) and had to run to the bathroom not even 30 minutes later. only now am i checking the label and it says vegetable broth. i'm guessing this means i just glutened myself, right? duh - i can't believe i didn't think to check the label. i mean, what else should be in tuna besides water or oil? does...
  17. Come on Shay! Tell us how you really feel! My doctor is really nice but i've lost faith in him. Luckily, i recently moved so i don't have to go back to him. And i'm going to my first support group meeting on Wednesday so i'm hoping to learn of a couple good doctors in my area. i'm thinking of changing my name to Dr_i_love_bread. I might as...
  18. ooh, i am so mad right now!! My GI doctor just called with the results of my genetic testing. (it was done through Prometheus Labs.) He said i have 1 copy of the gene but insists i don't have Celiac. Apparently, according to him, i'm ok to consume all the gluten i want. he says it won't do any intestinal damage or cause long-term problems but i could...
  19. missy'smom - i am a complete idiot when it comes to cooking. since going gluten free i've managed to whip up a few simple meals. i eat chicken breast at least 4 times a week and the easiest and best way i've found to cook it is to marinate for at least a few hours (overnight if you can) in Kraft Italian salad dressing and then either grill it or broil...
  20. i know, right? it definitely seems like the family owned places are the better option. they cook like they're in your kitchen after just going food shopping as opposed to the processed and injected-with-who-knows-what foods at the chain restaurants. thankfully my dinner last night was great and our server was wonderful. She even joked that she'd...
  21. Live2BWell - it's amazing how your cravings kind of just go away, isn't it? I still would love a slice of pizza every now and again but then i just think about how i'll feel afterward and am perfectly happy with my chicken and rice! SEAliac - do you have a problem with nightshades? you may be reacting to the tomatos in the V8 (i'm assuming you're...
  22. thanks everyone for your replies. I decided to stay the heck away from the chains and i called the local Italian place. I spoke with the owner and explained i had an "allergy to gluten". He chuckled and said "well, i guess the pasta is out then huh?" he was very nice and quite helpful. he explained everything they make is fresh and to make sure i mention...
  23. i'm going out to dinner with my boyfriends family tomorrow. this will be the first time eating out since going gluten free last month. they know about my restrictions (his mom is a nurse so she totally gets it) and they've left the selection up to me. there are a few chains in the area but none seem to be very gluten free friendly (Applebees, 99, Ground...
  24. thanks Fiddle-Faddle...i didn't know that. this is the end of the testing for me anyhow. i just didn't want to leave the option open because i'd question it forever! i'm slowly starting to accept that i may never get an official diagnosis from an MD.
  25. do you have a burning desire for a concrete diagnosis from a doctor? or are you ok with your self-diagnosis? because it sounds like you already have your answer.
