  1. i've noticed so many products have a CYA statement on their packaging: "manufactured in a facility that processes wheat" or something along those lines. it would appear the product doesn't contain gluten but the opportunity for CC is present. i'm trying to cut back on spending but find myself buying name brands (like Kraft) because of their reputation...
  2. from the job description and what i know about the company, yes i REALLY want the job! it's exactly what i'm doing now but better. my field is hard to get into and i've been looking my immediate area for about a month now without finding a single job worth applying for. that's why i expanded the search. that said, i'm not willing to accept the job if...
  3. as some may recall, i am going to be interviewing this week for a new job. the interview is an entire day, with 7 different people. when i initially spoke with the HR Manager, she asked what my salary requirements were i gave her a number a few thousand dollars more than i currently make. she didn't hesitate at all so of course now i'm doubting myself...
  4. do you know if they're hard to find in stores? can i find them at Walmart or a cheap-o jewelry store?
  5. well that seems like a much better solution to smearing nail polish on the posts and waiting for it to dry! i'll check the next time i'm out at the store. thanks Jestgar!
  6. can you go see a different doctor, one who doesn't dismiss your concerns because you don't have classic intestinal symptoms? if you are able to get a blood test, you will need to be consuming gluten. once you stop, your body starts to heal and the antibodies start to go down. this will skew the test results. are you girls symptomatic? maybe you can...
  7. does anyone know if the nail polish on the earrings trick works? it seems awfully coincidental that i got this rash the day after i wore earrings for 6 hours.
  8. ok, i'm getting anxious now! i still haven't heard back regarding when my marathon interview is scheduled for. i talked to the HR lady on Tuesday morning and she said it would be later this week (obviously that's out) or early next week - she had to check everyone's schedules. She asked if my email was the best way of reaching me and i said yes, either...
  9. i used Prometheus. my GI doc ordered the tests and i went to a local hospital to have the blood drawn. Supposedly the doctors office and the hospital have some kind of agreement where they don't give Prometheus any patient info and all the billing is through the doctor and the hospital. i was confused as far as what that meant for me and what i'd have...
  10. hi and welcome! go OFF gluten before the biopsy? no, you need to continue consuming gluten until all your tests are complete. eliminating gluten from your diet will cause your body to begin the healing process and the damage may not be visible if you're off it for too long before the biopsy.
  11. i noticed a slight rash on the top of my right hand today. tiny little bumps in a couple of clusters that mostly blend in with my skin. i can see them if i look closely. they're starting to itch a little bit now too. i'm reading about Dyshidrotic Eczema and it's saying it can be the secondary effect of problems in the gut, it's hereditary and also...
  12. i also use the generic brand Claritin. I got a good deal on the RiteAid brand a few months ago and then just picked up the Walmart brand about 2 weeks ago. i didn't have any noticeable problems with either brand. my face typically breaks out and i'm constantly running for the bathroom when i'm glutened so i think i would have noticed. that's not to say...
  13. you need to find out how the food will be prepared. is the chicken marinated in anything that could contain gluten or is is plain? same goes for the burgers. even if they're plain but cooked on the same surface that gluteny food was cooked on is no good. some hot dogs are safe, some are not. same rule applies to where they're cooked. baked potatoes...
  14. oh my gosh, i didn't even consider we'd be going OUT to lunch. i figured they'd have something brought in, i.e. catered for the entire group. oh dear...i guess i better get a clarification.
  15. i have a job interview next week. it's a full day of interviews and i was told they would bring lunch in for me. as soon as she said that, my stomach did a couple of flips and i started envisioning big trays of gluten! what's the best way to address lunch and being gluten free? I have to say something so i don't end up with a plate of lasagna or something...
  16. i'm not sure what they can and can't see when they're actually doing the procedure. i cried when i got the negative result back. the last thing i did was test for the genes, which i have 1 of. Still not enough for an official diagnosis but i feel so much better not eating gluten so i've come to grips with it. does your doctor have any other ideas...
  17. i'm no expert...but i think you can have a false negative and still have Celiac. did the doctor say anything after the biopsy? mine wouldn't let me leave the hospital before he briefly reviewed his findings (which was no visable damage but the samples were being sent off to a pathologist for further inspection). he also gave me a print out which included...
  18. were you gluten free before the blood work? that'll cause a negative result just like it would the biopsy.
  19. OMG is that true? my grandma is very Irish and was diagnosed years and years ago with Celiac. and i have Irish (of course), Scottish and German in me. wow, that's bizzare. anywho - MD2B...just ask the new doctor to run the tests. don't worry about what they'll think of you. if they can't listen to their patients concerns without passing judgment...
  20. i recently moved to a new town and have not established with a PCP yet (or any other kind of doctor, for that matter). i am going back home in a few weeks for a follow up with my regular doctor. my insurance will be lapsing shortly after the appointment and it could be months before i have coverage again. i will be 11 weeks gluten free at that point...
  21. i've been taking Zovia for years now (used to be Demulen before they discontinued it) . i haven't had any problems since going gluten free a few months ago. just wanted to share my experience...
  22. i worry about ingesting gluten and having it damage my insides. it's not always about the physical, symptomatic reaction. i read somewhere that 1/8 teaspoon of flour is enough to do damage. so why go through all the effort to avoid large quantities of gluten if the small amounts are harming you too? some people have suffered for years so to them it...
  23. i have no words of advice but i will commiserate with you! i'm in week 7 of the diet and lately i've been dreaming about yummy glutenous foods! the other night i dreamed i ate a wonderful, gooey, mouth-watering grilled cheese sandwich. i woke up and was so scared that i had actually eaten it and that i was going to feel crappy all day! i currently...
  24. it certainly won't hurt anything to be tested for Celiac. i'm still fairly new to this but your symptoms seem pretty typical, from what i've read on this board. make sure you continue consuming gluten until after the blood work and subsequent endoscopy. if you test positive in the blood, your doctor will most likely refer you to a gastroenterologist...
  25. that's exactly what happened to me...i don't have the official diagnosis but i'm slowing coming around to realize it doesn't matter. i'm gluten free and feeling better every day. this forum is a fantastic resource - search around, ask questions, don't be shy! you'll find that many people on here know more about Celiac than most doctors do. if you...
