  1. I can relate! Before a gastroenterologist finally found my celica, I was sent to a psychiatrist, psychiatrist's assistant, and a chiropractor who specializes in strange things!

    ARCHIVED Weight Gain

Yep...my stomach sticks out too. I have a belly that I didn't have five years ago. Looks like I'm pregnant at times. Think that's another reason my clothes don't fit like they used to.

    ARCHIVED Weight Gain

I too am having a difficult time losing weight. I have put on 16 pounds the past 2 years which is also about the time I got serious about staying gluten free. I guess the constant diarrhea was helping keep my weight down but I certainly don't like this. I am 5 feet tall and weigh 129. I walk a mile or two three times a week plus do aerobic or toning exercises...
  4. It is also comforting to me that others have had problems with weight gain on the gluten-free diet. I guess the diarrhea was helping keep my weight down. Now that I eat gluten-free, I have put on 20 lbs the past 2 years. My clothes are uncomfortable, etc. I do exercise at least 3 times per week (walking, weights, aerobics). I guess I eat too much of...
  5. I have also used Amy's rice pizza but I add to it with green pepp ers, onions, shredded cheese, gluten-free pepperoni, etc.
  6. I wouldn't take Pepto and Imodium together because sometimes if I've had a bad day and had to take the maximum Imodium allowed, I get severe stomach cramps, then diarrhea. Taking Pepto with it might make that worse.
  7. I have not purchased new kitchen utensils and have been gluten free 3 yrs. I do use the same toaster as the family but not often. When stirring food on the stove, I do use different spoons. Just had blood tests this year and my counts were way down from 3 yrs ago, so I think I'm doing ok.
  8. Bought some Great Value (Walmart brand) chocolate instant breakfast. Didn't wanna pay over $4.00 for Carnation. Checked ingredients; seemed ok. Anyone know for sure? Haven't used it yet. Thanks.

    ARCHIVED Nutritionalists

The nutritionist I was sent to after my initial DX was also not very helpful. For example, she told me that malt flavoring was bad and then later told me I could have Rice Krispies (they contain the malt). When I asked her about this, she couldn't give me an answer.
  10. Hi Karen...I have been a celiac for several years, but only got serious about my diet 3 summers ago when I was sick for 9 straight days. I have taken Lomotil, Donnagel, and other diarrhea meds but find that Imodium works best for me. (I use the generic - 2 mg/dose loperamide). Even tho I eat gluten-free, mornings are bad for me. Several trips to bathroom...
  11. Hi everyone...just joined the forum! My Toastmaster 1142 has cashed out and I was wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions on a good breadmaker. I know you don't really need one for gluten-free bread, but they do come in handy. Thanks.
