I have the celiac panel and small bowel series with follow-through every 3 years. I believe I am due in 2007 again. However, I am thinking of rejecting the small bowel series because the barium I have to drink may contain gluten. If I am mistaken about this, anyone may speak up to correct me.

I thoroughly enjoy the sights and smells of the CHRISTMAS season. However, I totally agree that putting Christmas items out before Halloween is both ridiculous and disgusting. And somehow in between, Thanksgiving is lost. I guess because retailers can't make any money off of it, except on food items. I enjoy shopping for my family for the most part but...

ARCHIVED Your Personal Celiac/gluten Intolerance Story
cmom replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My mom says I became dehydrated as a baby. In first grade, I would have to walk to the bus stop and invariably have to go to the bathroom. Mom would get aggravated about this. Once I didn't make it back to the apartment in time and she had to take me to school. Things got better until high school when I began having problems again. My senior year, I... -
I haven't been on much the past 8 weeks. Just a note to let those who tried to help with my son. He did see a GI, had the blood tests, endoscopy, and small bowel series with follow through. Everything came out negative. The dr said at this time, there is no evidence of celiac. He said to treat the acid reflux episodes as they happened. Didn't feel that...

ARCHIVED What Would You Do If There Was A Cure?
cmom replied to cgilsing's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am not sure if I would ever trust a cure. I never want to go back to the way I was before. I am able to live a much more normal life now. Even though I still have episodes sometimes, life is much more pleasant. I would probably continue to choose the gluten-free lifestyle. -
ARCHIVED As I Stand Before You, Eating Humble Pie

When I'm attracted to the bathroom, I suffer at home but definitely take the Imodium the next morning so I can function normally. -
I was diagnosed with osteopenia about a year and a half ago after having a bone scan. The doctor spent a lot of time with me and said that I was the youngest person she had ever seen with "65 yr old" bones. I was 45 at the time. She said it was definitely due to the malabsorption from celiac. I'm on calcium and Fosamax. I have had several broken bones...

I just spoke with my son's fiance and she wants me to call a dr asap...she said he was sent home from work today b/c he was sick on his stomach and they were at Logan's eating and he started having chest pain and feeling sick so he left the table to walk around. She put him on the phone and he wants me to go ahead and schedule an appt with my doctor in Vincennes...

Thanks to you too, Mandy, for jumping on the bandwagon!!! It's great to know what doctors NOT to take my son to. I know that if one doctor minimized his symptoms and made him feel like a hypochondriac, I'd never get him to go anywhere else. That's why I'm taking my time (as long as his symptoms are not worsening) trying to find the right one.

ARCHIVED Before Going gluten-free Was Anyone Else Always Hungry?
cmom replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I also ate alot of food but was always hungry. My MIL told people that I ate like a pig. How flattering!!!! -
I will pass it on to him. I wish I had checked my email sooner as he was home today. Thanks again. I appreciate it!!!!
-
My son hates to talk on the phone so he uses email as his main form of communication. If you're comfortable with giving your address out, he'd be more likely to communicate that way, and thanks again.

I do appreciate your help. I will definitely mark Guletz and Haseman off the list. I had Dr. Bailey as the number 1 choice only because he graduated from med school the latest and I thought he might be more up to date on celiac. But this is just a shot in the dark. My son asked me if I had found him anyone yet. He says he'll start the diet, then gets...

Thanks, NoGluGirl. If Dr. Beckman knows of a good GI in Evansville, I would be interested. I know my son will not go gluten free without a confirmed diagnosis. He'll have to have proof. Thanks also for giving me the "bad docs."

ARCHIVED Upset About What Colleauge Did To Me!
cmom replied to jesscarmel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My mother-in-law got a Yorkie puppy from a breeder once. Within 2 weeks, it went blind, would not eat, and died. She called the breeder who tried to make excuses, etc. but finally had her come and get another puppy for free. The breeder knew, legally, she was responsible. I should add that the new puppy was healthy and happy and is still with her... -
I've tried all of the above: county medical society, state licensing board, Google search on dr name and AMA website. No help found.

Did Dr. Beckman to the celiac panel and/or biopsy to diagnose you? Dr. Guletz was one of the names I was given by me GI! I'm not too familiar with holistic doctors. What approach does she use? Thanks for all your help. Gee, NoGluGirl!!! Sorry for all the typos!!!!

Does anyone know the website for checking out doctors' histories, such as malpractice suits, disciplinary actions, etc? I am in the process of finding my son a doctor and want to be careful. Thanks.
-
NoGluGirl, I did get your email and replied but not sure if you got it. I haven't been on the computer for a couple of weeks. Is Dr. Beckman in with the St. Mary's group? My son made an emergency room visit this past week b/c of being awakened by severe stomach pain and spitting up blood. This is his second ER visit in the past 8-9 months. There is...

ARCHIVED Anyone Know A Good Gi Doc In Bloomington, In?
cmom replied to ladybugpumpkin's topic in Doctors
Ok Bloomington girls!!! I go to the Sahara Mart or Bloomingfoods every month or two. Fill me in on Nick's and gluten-free. Is it on Kirkwood or am I mistaken? I am always looking for restaurants in the area where I can eat with my husband since he often does without on my account. Thanks!!! -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have Any Solid Info On The Incidence Of False Negatives?
cmom replied to frenchiemama's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I finally convinced both my sons to be tested about a year ago. I emphatically requested all 5 tests from the lab which they passed on to the larger lab that ran the tests. When the nurse called with the results, she apologized b/c the LAB made the decision that they didn't need to do all the tests. I was furious. Anyhow, both sons were in the normal... -
This is "vedddy interesting" as I have been wondering why I have such difficulty finding a bra that fits correctly anymore. I have been gluten-free for a few years but the past 2 years every bra is too small or too big...nothing just right. (Anybody remember what show the quote is from and who said it?)

ARCHIVED Does Anyone On Here Forget That They Have celiac disease Most Of The Time?
cmom replied to em2005's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No, I never forget. There are things everywhere to remind me. However, it was exhilarating once I healed enough to enjoy myself and forget about bathrooms for awhile! -
I'm pretty sure it's not the muscles. I exercise 4-5 times a week and go to a personal trainer once a week. My foot still feels similiar to when it was broken, only not as severe. Still hurts quite a bit when I step on an uneven surface and then just walking sometimes. This same doctor's office (not the same dr., but a nurse practioner) also misdiagnosed...
