ARCHIVED Allergy Research Group Supplements
efriedm2 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Anyone use Allergy Research Group's supplements? There are a few mentions of them in past threads, but my phone call to them yesterday about gluten-free status of their lactobacillus did not leave me feeling confident. I was told it is gluten-free, but when I probed further about manufacturing standards the woman I spoke with told me that product is actually... -
Hi all, Does anyone who lives in or has been to Barcelona have specific restaurant recommendations? I've looked at the Catalan Celiac Association website, and identified some places I'll likely try, but would love to hear first-hand about restaurants you particularly liked. Thanks!

Where have you had success eating out in Philly (besides Sazon & Jules Thin Crust)?

Hey all, Has anyone eaten in any of the Philadelphia restaurants that participate in NFCA's GREAT certification program? I am most interested in Distrito and Little Fish, but feedback about any of the restaurants would be wonderful.

ARCHIVED Cape Cod Robust Russet Chips
efriedm2 replied to jjc's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cape Cod Chips consistently has some of the friendliest, most well-informed costumer service reps I've ever spoken to - they're always genuinely up on their allergen info! And, currently, all of there flavors are gluten-free. I eat the Robust Russet all the time without issue. -
Anyone know of a reliable sushi restaurant in Center City Philadelphia? Thanks all!

Hi all, any one know if Symbicort is gluten-free? It isn't on the glutenfreedrugs.com list and I didn't have the chance to call Astra Zeneca today. Many thanks!

ARCHIVED Wildflours Market & Bakery, Brunswick, Maine
efriedm2 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hey all, if you live in Mid-Coast Maine or are passing through this summer, stop by the adorable Wildflours Market & Bakery in Brunswick. It's been open since the fall, but I just discovered it today. They are 100% gluten-free, do breads and other baked goods, and stock lots of gluten-free groceries. On Mason St., just off of Maine Street:... -
What kind of ice cream do you eat? Anyone know of a brand made in an entirely gluten-free facility?

ARCHIVED New Gluten-free Options At Phila. Phillies Games
efriedm2 replied to savvvyseller's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Amazing news! Thanks for posting this. In similar news, CeliacChicks reported that gluten-free food/drink is coming to the Arizona Diamondbacks' Chase Field: Open Original Shared Link Can you say, gluten-free ballpark tour? -
Hey all, I'm traveling to Kiawah Island in late April and am wondering if there are any reliable restaurants on the island or in Charleston? Also, how are the grocery stores down there? Piggly Wiggly is the major one, right?

ARCHIVED Eating Out With The "boys"
efriedm2 replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
What's the harm in telling your friends straight up that you really don't like your dietary habits being the brunt of the joke at meals? Tell them they can tease you about your haircut or your taste in music or whatever, just not your new diet because it's a sensitive issue. -
Gluten-free eating in Paris is a bit more difficult than elsewhere in Europe, but it's certainly doable. La Grande Epicerie de Paris, the Bon Marche department store's food hall, is a great place to put together a picnic meal. It's in the 6th arrondissement, near the S

I was 20, had mild symptoms starting at 17 that got much worse around 19/20. It took a whole summer worth of visiting different doctors to finally crack it, and, out of frustration, having done some internet research myself through the Merck Manual, I was actually the one who first suggested Celiac.

ARCHIVED Help: Not Healing From Outbreak
efriedm2 replied to Korinne-S's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Korinne, I'm certainly not a medical expert, but as a life-long allergic person (to foods other than wheat/gluten), I'm not aware of food allergies being known to cause the bleeding you're having. Really, go get yourself checked out by a doc! -
Since your 2nd endoscopy showed continued damage, you must be getting gluten somewhere! What gluten-free brands have you been eating? I had some trouble over the first year of my gluten-free diet, and found that some supposedly safe brands weren't really so safe. For example, I ate a ton of Amy's products, but came to find that many celiacs react to Amy...

ARCHIVED Celiacs In College

That is so so frustrating. You could try getting a rice cooker in your room, I have one in my room and it's super handy. Mine makes about 3 cups of rice at a time, which is a lotta rice. If you keep a can opener in your room, you can add canned beans (I use Eden Organic brand, which is definitely gluten free) and San-J Wheat-Free Tamari. Or skip the beans... -

hey Leah, have you talked to the head of dining services yet? That's probably a good idea, rather than dealing with different individual dining staff members who probably don't know about celiac and cross-contamination. If the staff gets a celiac briefing, they'll be better equipped to help you out. You might still have some problems with cross-contamination... -

yeah, and very innovative on a gluten-free diet. necessity is definitely the mother of all invention. something else i do a lot in the dining hall is bring my own sweet potatoes, poke them with a fork and microwave for about 8ish minutes. it is a long time to hang out by the microwave, but a good do-it-yourself thing. and spanish-road, what's a dry... -

Whoa, Notre Dame sounds like a sweet set-up. Have you guys discovered the magical wonder that is a rice cooker in your dorm room? I recently got one, and it's incredible. I think you can get a hold of one for less than $100, and it's definitely worth it. Obviously, it cooks massive amounts of rice at one time (to which I usually add some kind of beans... -

p.s. Frisbees - What did you say to them? I know that's a pretty broad question, but maybe we can all help each other get the message across to our respective schools. -
ARCHIVED Celiacs In College

Yeah, I've had a pretty lousy time of it. My small school's dining service is very progressive and independent of any of my requests were already trying to do the gluten-free thing, but not really succeeding. They had consulted a nutritionist, and were labeling things gluten-free, but I got sick repeatedly. Talking to the cooks, we figured out that they...
