ARCHIVED Eczema
sugarsue replied to MollyBeth's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am allergic to wheat and get horrible itchy skin when I eat it. My daughter (age 7) has had bad skin since she was little. She went gluten free in december and her skin got very bad with eczema. The doc didn't have a reason why but now that we've put cream on her skin to clear it up, and she is continuing on the gluten free diet, her skin is starting... -
It is my understanding that Dermatitis herpetiformis is another form of celiac disease and a positive biopsy confirms celiac. I am allergic to wheat that comes with intense itching. I find that being gluten free is worth the trade off. Good luck to you!!

ARCHIVED Celiac's Vs Gluten Intolerance Diff?
sugarsue replied to Eric-C's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I totally agree. My 7yr old dd shows signs of ADHD and is very angry and quick to whine and yell and lash out if someone bugs her. She can't control her emotions. Since I've taken her off gluten, she is now, 1 month later, asking me to help teach her what she should do when she gets angry at someone and when I give her suggestions, she's actually trying... -
ARCHIVED My Toddler Has Been Getting Into The Dog Food....
sugarsue replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Is there anything else in the dog food that could bother her? Have you considered finding a dog food that does not have wheat in it, just to help that much more keeping your home gluten free? I don't know, to me, after all the stories I've heard, it sounds plausible. Even if she is not gluten sensitive, if she is eating something she is not used to, I imagine... -
I totally agree and have seen it in my daughter and myself! s

Hello and first off HUGE HUGS! I have been living with hashimoto's for over 10 years. Your TSH sounds like it's at a good level. Other tests I highly recommend if you have not had them are Ferritin (iron stores) and Vitamin D. If you are low in these it will cause you a lot of pain. These were the two biggest savior's for me and my doc was not interested...

Hi, I know I've written about Longhorn before, it's our favorite restaurant. I thought the french fries were making dd sick but we get them without the seasoning and they are fried in a dedicated frier. They have a gluten free menu in their store which has the ribs on it so I've been getting that for the girls. But last night I figured out it's the...

ARCHIVED Is Asthma Celiac Related?
sugarsue replied to Aleshia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I love a presentation I saw by Dr. Wangen who is from Seattle and wrote a book called Healthier Without Wheat or something like that. He lists Asthma as a sign/symptom of celiac/gluten intolerance. My boyfriend says he's allergic to wheat but still eats wheat. He has Asthma and it gets worse when he drinks certain types of beer but it does not always bother... -
ARCHIVED Celiac's Vs Gluten Intolerance Diff?
sugarsue replied to Eric-C's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ravenwoodglass and Momma Goose, thank you for your replies regarding my post here! Raven, I did get a copy of her test which showed, in my opinion, low total IGA which would mess with the results as well as pretty high IgG. -
ARCHIVED Celiac's Vs Gluten Intolerance Diff?
sugarsue replied to Eric-C's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is one question that I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out and I still don't fully understand. However, the articles I've read here are interesting. I am wondering then, with my highly gluten intolerant, negative celiac panel daughter, since she has malabsorbtion issues, does this imply that she really has celiac? Either way, for her, she... -
ARCHIVED Baby Diagnosed With Failure To Thrive
sugarsue replied to nicspoon32's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hello. I am sorry you are going through this with your son. I know you are worried sick. I would highly recommend getting the blood test celiac panel for you and your son and then go gluten free yourself while you breastfeed your son to see if there is an improvement. Do you feed him any formula yet? My thoughts are with you. -
That is awesome! My dd has been gluten free for 4 months and so far, not much is improving with her size. I hope to see this happen to us! Thanks for the news!

ARCHIVED Need Help
sugarsue replied to Aleshia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hello! I urge you to google Sensory Processing Disorder and Sensory Integration Disorder symptoms and see if anything hits home for you. These sound like sensory seeking behaviors to me for starters. You can get an evaluation at an occupational therapist and the treatment is play therapy where the child gets introduced to sensory activities in a way that... -
ARCHIVED No Symptoms, Need Help!
sugarsue replied to Drunkskunk's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
How does he know you aren't doing it good enough? From retesting or from lack of gaining weight? This sounds like a tough one! -
ARCHIVED Tired Of Having To Deal With The Attitude
sugarsue replied to The Kids Folks's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You might try to locate a family doc or peditrician who is also a Dan! doctor. Since they deal with children on the autism spectrum, they are supporters of the gluten free diet even with no testing. Just a thought. Our doc sees children on and off the spectrum so we get the benefits of that "alternative" methodology. Good luck! -
Oh the difference is amazing. The cream is clearing up the eczema quickly. Her molluscum is practically gone except for the skin needing to heal there are only a few more lesions that need to burst. I know going gluten free helped her clear this out. She's had it since June and not anywhere near clearing it until our gluten free trial! Interesting...

ARCHIVED Rice In Gluten Free Facility?
sugarsue posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My friends daughter was just diagnosed with Celiac and is very sensitive. She said all the rice she looks at says made in a facility with wheat. Is there a brand of rice that is made in a gluten free facility? Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Eating Regular Lunch At School?
sugarsue replied to mama2two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Our school gives us a monthly menu with all the gluten items crossed off to show us what our options are. I carefully check them out though since they are calling two of their breakfast cereals OK which contain malt. This would probably be OK for one of my daughter's but not the other. Mostly I would not assume they know everything about gluten and question... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Lay's Sour Cream And Onion
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well...... I have the hardest time with dairy free since I have trouble finding things this picky eater (my 6 yr old) wants to eat and I tend to give in sometimes with the dairy since we have to be so strict with the gluten. She is not allergic to dairy like my other daughter so I think this makes me a little more lax. That said, you could be right... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Lay's Sour Cream And Onion
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks, that's got to be it. I try to buy Staxx but they are hard to find here and I thought these would be OK. Only bright side, she recognized right away what happened and won't eat them again. It is nice when they can see it so clearly even at only age 6! -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Lay's Sour Cream And Onion
sugarsue posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My dd (6) just had gluten diarrhea after eating Lay's Sour Cream & Onion Potato Chips. I see on their website that they are gluten-free. They also have MSG and I was lax in reading the label or I would not have purchased them. But I'm confused about her reaction. It really seemed like gluten D accompanied by stomach pain. Anyone else??? susan -
Hello! I have tested positive to wheat allergy but negative celiac panel. I had intense itching under my arm pits. If I scratched, huge welts would appear. I found out by accident that if I gave up wheat the itching would stop. I wonder, now with the knowledge of my daughter's gluten intolerance, if I have more than a wheat allergy but negative tests...

ARCHIVED Keeping Kids Gluten Free Who May Not Need To Be
sugarsue replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi! Their responses are confusing to me because when I think of good healthy food, it does not include wheat! As long as the child gets healthy carbs, protein, fruit and veggies, there's no reason to think they also need gluten to be healthy! I think it is just ignorance that causes those comments! I agree with the other poster, gluten is nasty stuff... -
ARCHIVED Is Your Whole Household Gluten Free?
sugarsue replied to TJ060306's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We are a gluten free household now but before last month, my 7 yr old was still eating gluten but my 6 yr old would get very upset when her sister could eat her favorite foods so I decided early on that my gluten eater could get gluten at school, friends houses, restaurants, etc. but that we would have a safe and happy place at home with no constant reminder... -
ARCHIVED I Really Wanted To Make A Mini Bio To See If Someone Would Relate
sugarsue replied to mr. moore's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello, I am glad you are searching for answers! Sounds like you are on the right track. I wanted to ask, since you said you were on a lot of antibiotics, have you looked into Candida? There are many symptoms including mental ones. There are many places to find good lists of symptoms. Here's one I just found.... Open Original Shared Link Susan
