  1. Ali, well, my doc knows pancreas enzymes and did prescribe them, but they didn't work so I had to buy some proper ones myself. I know - they only can prescribe what the lists say they are allowed to. And they don't know anything that's not in the lists... If you feel that the echinacea and goldenseal are good for you, just give it a try. I really hope you...
  2. confused, my test result was lots of candida, weak normal flora (not enough escherichia coli), undigested carbs and fats, high marker for celiac disease. The test was made in the Netherlands. I don't feel more energetic with SCD until now - only started about one month ago - but my intestine feels much better. Less bloating, no cramps - so that is an...
  3. Hi Ali, you really should think so. Not like it couldn't be done - there's the knowledge and the methods, but they don't do it. It's the same here. I had my stool tests made in the Netherlands - in the Rotterdam Haven Hospital - and my German doctor doesn't take the results seriously! Sometimes I'd like to thump him on the head, but no use. I had to fund...
  4. Ali, from what you tell I'm pretty sure you have some kind of infection in your body. Sherry is right - lyme, for example, could be a reason for intestinal trouble. But not only lyme. Only recently I understood that my recurrent renal infections cause this dreadful weakness. I wondered why sometimes I don't mind being underweight at all - I do sports...
  5. Lonewolf, glad you are happy with this recipe Ali, this is where we get our crocks from:www.toepferei-erning.de/seite5.htm The specific name is "Gaertopf", sometimes also "Sauerkrauttopf". Maybe you can find some potter who sells glazed ceramic pots - something like a Rumtopf jar would be quite fine. It must be glazed, though, no rough unglazed...
  6. Sherry, you're right - just listen to your body. Surely starving the carbohydrate-fed things will help and there is no need to weaken the body more than necessary. Ali, I opened a new thread in the "gluten-free recipes" forum called "Making sauerkraut". Sorry if my English is a bit clumsy - if you have further questions, just ask! MissCici, there...
  7. This is how we use to make lacto-fermented sauerkraut. First of all I do hope my English will be sufficient to explain everything clearly. If you don't understand something, just ask! You need: cabbage salt (no pickling salt. We found that either sea salt, Himalayan salt or raw stone salt works best) sauerkraut crock: a ceramic jar the rim of...
  8. Ali and ArtGirl, I'll start a new thread, then, for making sauerkraut No, you don't need organic cabbage. It even may be better not to use organic cabbage because the organic varieties very often are too dry, too many fibres and not enough glucose for proper fermentation. And no, no need to wash; you just discard the two cover leaves. The rest I'll...
  9. ArtGirl, thanks for the information! I'll try the powder. Ali, just give a sign and I'll explain what you need and what to do Err - sorry, my English... I wanted to say "refregerator" not freezer I put the yoghurt into the refregerator overnight. But I suppose you are right, I should have heated it much more. The starter was simply one cup...
  10. Sherry, 8 years on antibiotics - no wonder your gut is very, very troubled. I suppose that will be the reason why you don't improve as fast as you would like to. But I'm quite sure that if you manage to starve the bad microorganisms in the gut that also will make it easier to fight the lyme. I do really wish you lots of strength to keep doing this! Ali...
  11. I have to buy some cashews and cashew butter in the Netherlands first. Here in Germany they're very expensive. Sherry, yes, we have ways to get tested here. When I had muscle pain and cramps all last winter I was tested for lyme, too, but luckily there was nothing. A friend of mine has it, though, and she also had brain fog and fatigue. I think she was...
  12. Thanks, Art Girl! Sounds good, I'll try that. The idea with the burger is great. The girl from our local burger shop is already used to me bringing my almond buns and taking only the burger without sauce Perhaps she'll like this cashew cheese herself. Mia
  13. Art Girl, I really ould dive into that pumpkin porridge, it's absolutely delicious! I spooned some of the coconut flour in instead of almond flour, and it was fantastic. What is cashew cheese? How do you make that? Sherry, I'm not quite sure about the digestive problems and the antibiotics because unfortunately the intake of the antibiotics was at the...
  14. Art Girl, I don't know what is to be found where you live but I just found out that here in Germany you can buy nut flours with most of the oil removed. It's the pulp which is produced in oil mills which produce nut oils / almond oil. Instead of discarding the pulp, some of them dry it and make a very powdery nut flour out of it. I just bought some and it...
  15. Hi, I'm a German celiac and live in the north-western aerea of Germany, at the dutch border. If you have any special questions, you're welcome Mia
  16. Hi Sherry, I also stick to the SCD closely. Only I don't follow the steps from pecanbread but make my own, trying what I can tolerate. Almond muffins already are fine, raw and cooked veggies (except cabbage) and bananas and cooked apples, but no other fruit. Hard cheese is okay, too. At the moment I'm taking antibiotics because of that pyelonephritis I got...
  17. So nice to hear that there are great chefs like in your hotel! Very encouraging :-) I also hope that you find some recreation and healing at last!
  18. Hi all, I followed the thread but couldn't write because I felt too ill - thought it was the SCD, but on Sunday I started having back pain and fever. It's a pyelonephritis again. Seemingly I suffer from recurrent urinary tract infections - maybe this correlates with the dysbalanced gut flora. So that encourages me that I'm on the right way with SCD now...
  19. mftnchn, I'm sorry about that almond problem. Just make sure there are no bitter almonds mixed in the sweet ones. Lately I read something about bitter almonds in charges of sweet almonds (never had almonds that tasted bitter, though). I made a batch of egg-free pecan brownies which turned out fabulous - only that I found out I'm allergic to pecans now...
  20. Cici: Don't worry! After a while when you start feeling better it even gets fun to experiment And people round here are so helpful - thanks! mftnchn: As I had no D when I started, I could proceed quite well with adding raw and cooked veggies of all kinds. Yesterday I even tried my homemade coleslaw with hazelnuts and it seemed to be okay. Raw apples...
  21. Hi aprilh and mftnchn, thanks for your replies and thanks for the weilcome! Now I'll just be a bit patient. I had hypoglycemia, too, which was the reason why I used to eat low carb. During the first days on SCD I tried to avoid honey and bananas indeed, but I felt I needed them and so here I go with bananas and honey, and it feels much better than without...
  22. Hi, sorry that I burst into your conversation - but this is just the thread to ask my questions, I think After 1 gluten-free year, all my symptoms became worse - they seemed to explode. I already knew I had a leaky gut and didn't digest neither carbohydrates nor fat well. Finally I thought that I'd only be able to restore my intestines avoiding all forms...
  23. I was diagnosed with celiac disease after a kidney operation august 2007. Although I immediately started eating gluten free, I didn't recover, was exhausted all the time and especially my legs were weak as noodles. I jogged every day but had the feeling that the thigh muscles didn't obey as I was used to. After a while I started having cramps in the calves...
  24. I had nausea for more than twenty years and was always told it had to be stress... Then I found out that, besides the celiac disease, I had a dysfunction of the pancreas. I don't digest fat and carbohydrates because I don't seem to produce the enzymes. Now I'm taking pancreas enzymes before eating and the nausea has gone completely. You might check that as...
  25. I was very surprised to read this... Yes, I also have chronic pain in the tailbone. Sometimes not very much, but sometimes so violent a pain that I can barely sit. It didn't get better after eating gluten-free, but on the other hand my gastro-intestinal problems didn't get better either. Now that I think about it, I think that there is a relation between...
