  1. it's so funny you mention that....I got my first significant accidental glutening a couple days ago. I CAN'T STOP MUNCHING! I have had to force myself to eat for months now and suddenly after a glutening I am gulping down gluten-free goodies like crackers, cereal, and bread like there's no tomorrow! It's really weird and bad....gotta go back to basics...
  2. hey I'm right there with ya sweetie! I'm 3 weeks in and jumping at shadows also. hang in there! some of it could be crohn's related....I don't have that but I'm intimately familiar with it (husband has had it for over 20 years) all you can do it sit tight and stick with it! everyone will always have some bad days.
  3. thanks guys I'm feeling much better this evening. truthfully I shouldnt be eating that sort of junk anyway *blush* what a bizarre experience. It was more than just a physical return to previous symptoms, but mental/emotional regression as well. The blurred thinking, anger, and depression came right back too. And the headache! UGH! I haven't had...
  4. OMG I am sooo sick. I'm right back where I started.... headache, hate the world, exhausted, explosive D, anger and depression I can't believe I lived this way for so long...but now that I know what it's like to not be like this it makes it much harder to bear. all this from only trace amounts? this is crazy. I want to jump off a cliff
  5. ugh. I just had my first full-blown attack of cramps and explosive D since going gluten-free. It was a 3 Musketeers Bar, which is supposed to be gluten free. They're off my safe list for good, but I'm wondering if anyone else had problems with these? They were on a web list of foods that have tested positive for contamination, but the list was from...
  6. have you had your thyroid checked out? weight gain and irritability are big symptoms of hypothyroid
  7. I personally don't have reflux, but one thing you will learn quickly about these disorders is that they affect everyone a little differently! Trial and error goes for everybody - what works for one person may not for another. Keep at it, and it's so awesome that he's feeling better!
  8. I'm actually having a really hard time getting enough food in me each day because I am really not hungry! I'm a little worried I might sabotage my metabolism by not eating enough calories...hopefully my appetite will pick up a little over time because right now it's really bleh.
  9. ooh...thanks for the tip! wouldn't THAT be a great motivator for spouses to support our gluten-free lifestyle..... *evil laugh*
  10. I have alwas had rough, bumpy, dry skin on my body (not my face) I usually had pimples all over (lovely, huh.) anyway, 3 weeks gluten-free and my skin is really changing! it's not dry, I have no active pimples, and the rough texture is *much* less. I never thought of my skin problems being related to my GI problems.... I really hope this trend...
  11. I have noticed that my appetite has really calmed down since going gluten-free. I used to crave and crave, and my stomach would hurt from hunger all the time. I controlled it pretty well but when I did eat I would just want to stuff myself! Since going gluten-free I am only hungry a couple times a day when it's time to eat. I am easily satisfied by...
  12. yep, those symptoms sound exactly like my life for the 10 years leading up to going Gluten Free! I don't normally burp though...it's all downstairs for me LOL! I had that plus chronic headaches (also went away on the diet) So is he on the diet now? There's lots of advice on this site on how to find hidden sources of gluten in your diet and household...
  13. hmmm.....good theory yes I did, and that could be true! I am still so new to this gluten-free thing every time something new happens I freak out....thanks for bearing with me!
  14. I love brussels sprouts. I have always eaten them by the bushel. I'm 2 weeks gluten free and feeling wonderful in my GI tract finally after 8 years of painful gas etc. brussels sprouts never bothered me...until tonight. I ate my usual portion (a green giant product, which is supposed to be safely gluten-free) and within 15 minutes my belly blew up...
  15. I am finding that often my savior is fruit. If I'm stuck on the road or end up in a cafe, I can usually score a banana or apple. It seems like every gas station, Starbucks, and convenience store in my area has a few pieces of fruit for sale. It's something that I know is safe to eat, and it's good for me too
  16. my doc never tests me for anything...he just says 'IBS' over and over.
  17. I have been gluten free for two weeks and my GI system is a million times better. Over the past few days, I have been feeling warmer and warmer. For many years I have been cold constantly, so much so that I was known around the workplace for wearing my coat all day at my desk. Is this warming trend something that happens with going gluten-free...
  18. I agree. At times when I have had D or V for extended periods of time, my bilirubin levels would go waaay up. So much that my urine turned brown. Once I got re-hydrated and my GI symptoms calmed down, the levels went back to normal each time. Scary though! Take good care of yourself and I hope you're back to normal quick!
  19. congratulations!
  20. Me too! It makes me wonder what percentage of Immodium's annual sales are Celiac or Crohn's (my spouse took it every day for years) sufferers. The other tip I have is: don't ever pass gas unless you're on the toilet! I have learned the hard way never to assume it's just gas.
  21. Hopefully I'm not messing this thread up - I'm only 2 weeks gluten-free but so far I'm very impressed! * Have not had D much at all...only tiny bits here and there. * No gas, no bloating, no cramping! WOOHOO! (I am someone who spent the better part of the summer doubled over on the bathroom floor, sweating and praying for death) * I have not had one...
  22. wow....I am on my second week gluten-free and am just realizing I haven't had RLS since I started.... this is unreal! (In a good way!)
  23. is prewashing needed? (sorry for all the questions)
  24. I don't know, but on a related note: is the dishwasher enough? I am trying to understand CC and it's overwhelming
  25. ugh...I've been feeling a little sick all day. NOTHING NEAR like before, but disappointing. So are ups and downs (digestively speaking) a normal part of the first few weeks/months? I just don't know if I am being anal enough (HA!) about separating cookware, etc (I'm not) or whether some residual illness is happening on it's own without gluten CC.
