  1. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  2. Believe it or not Mc Donalds IS an option - double cheeseburger no bun AND french fries!! Mc D's has a dedicated french fryer so no cross contamination with breaded foods. I would avoid Burger King and some of the other burger joints! There are lots and lots more gluten free accomodating places out there. We recently found out that Davanni's will "top...
  3. Hi- we haven't had much luck with homemade crusts but we've found a frozen crust that we really like. Its by Gramma's not sure if that's the full name, but it is a frozen crust that we bought at Fresh and Natural in Shoreview, MN. I would guess you could google it and find other places that sell the gluten free crust. We have had luck with purchasing...
  4. I totally agree with the others on a number of points - first look for a new doctor. We went through exactly the same thing with DS - he was failure to thrive twice!! Our peds just kept saying that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree blah blah blah, b/c I am short (only 4'11). She felt he was growing at his own rate - hhmmmmnnn. He didn't need new...
  5. Hi- I typically post on the parents of kids with celiac section, but this time I have a question about dealing with my mother. My DD, DS and DH and myself all went gluten in October. Although itwas not diagnosed through medical testing but rather diet - we have seen remarkable changes in all of us. Enough said. Here is the issue - DH and I have noticed...
  6. Hi - I emailed Betty Crocker /General Mills and they told me that they have a product locator on their web site generalmills.com . You can search by product and then by store and it will let you know if they have them yet. Or you can call the customer service number 1-800-249-0562 and they will do the search for you. Nothing here in the twin cities...
  7. Hi- needing some help here... quick background. Our DS ge 8 went gluten-free in October due to digestive, no growth, sleep issues etc. Our house went gluten-free as well. DD age 4 was gluten-free at home exculsively, but allowed to have gluten at school etc. By January she went totally gluten-free as well. She had been on prevacid for reflux and...
  8. Hang in there Mom- the growth does and will happen, although not as fast as any of us mom's would like to see. DS age 8 has been gluten-free since Oct, he has finally grown 2 inches, but his weight on the scale seems to remain the same. This is a wierd thing as he has gone up a size in clothing, from a 5 slim to a reg 6. Woo Hoo. We talked to the peds...
  9. I would definitely say yes! It can change a childs behavior, demeanor and sleep very quickly! Kids don't always have words to let you know that they aren't feeling well when they are eating gluten and then act out because their little bodies are hurting. When our son was eating gluten he was "just a serious kid" didn't smile or laugh a lot. Then...
  10. Hi- Its quite a tough decision to make - to endoscopy or not. We chose not for our 7 yo son who also had major chronic constipation issues since he was an infant. Our peds did the blood test - which was negative. He was then sent to a peds GI who said that he was just fine and that we should put him on medications to treat the symptoms. Our peds...
  11. You might want to check with the pizza place. My son's hockey team was having their party at Davanni's Pizza (even though the coach knows that he can't eat gluten). Anyway I checked with the Davanni's and then gave me a list of things that are gluten free and even said that we could bring in our own crust and they could top it for us! We've found a lot...
  12. Congratulations and big hugs to you and your daughter. Best wishes for a life time of healthiness!
  13. Like the others - you seem to be telling our story as well. My son was 9 lbs at birth. Each year he would slow drop in the growth charts until this past August he fell off the charts. It wasn't until he was off the charts, below well below the 3rd percentile did our peds decide that there was a problem. I knew something was wrong for a long time. He...
  14. As others have said you have to do what you feel is right for your family. You will hear from those who felt/feel strongly that the endo is what needs to be done. You will also hear from those who will tell you that the diet is all that you need. For what its worth this is what our family did... Our DS 7yo was having major digestive issue - chronic...
  15. YES! Our DS 7yo now sleeps wonderfully gluten free. He used to yell in his sleep, which didn't do much for the rest of the famiy's sleep. His sleep was very restless, if we went in to check on him when he was sleeping and and would pull up the covers, he would yell and kick and groan. It was hard to watch almost every night. Now that he is gluten-free...
  16. I would definitely say that gluten can change a person's behavior regardless of the age of the person. I went gluten free with my son in Oct 08 and my husband has noticed a huge difference in me. We now know that there is a difference in our son as well, when he is glutened he tends to have many more outbursts, ends up crying and door slamming at all of...
  17. I guess I agree with Fiddle Faddle you should be pleased that someone wants to "copy" you. Although your neighbor does sound like she is taking it a bit far. Perhaps next time you find something for your apartment, say maybe something for the outside that she is sure to see, buy two of them and drop one off at her apartment with a note, "Here I knew that...
  18. Hi All- I was going to post a happy look how wonderful the gluten-free lifestyle is! We have been gluten-free in our house since Oct 08. DS (7yrs) just went to the peds last week for a 6 month gluten-free check up. We switched peds so I wanted to make sure that the new peds was on board. She totally was and said that DS looked really healthy! Said...
  19. Yummy! I just had to try this! I too was suprised that it worked. I totally loved the texture. It kindof reminded my of this homemade bread that my mom would make when I was a kid. I can't wait to make it for my son. He really hasn't had a bread that he likes since going gluten free. This one might just be it! Thanks for experimenting!!
  20. I totally agree with you on being able to sleep much better. I started having insomnia when I was pregnant with DD, I truly never slept a full night since then and she is now almost 5yrs. I have been gluten-free since Oct 08 and now sleep like I am on vacation. That totally restful sleep. I'm not even sure how many hours I get in a night, but I wake feeling...
  21. Our daughter had gerd and reflux early on. She was pretty much an urpie/pukie baby. By the time she was two, she was put on prevacid for her GERD. In the morning she often reminded us of a cat trying to rid itself of a hairball (sorry for the icky description, but that's truly what it reminded us of!). Any way our house went gluten-free in October b/c...
  22. Gosh, you all sound like you're talking about my kiddos. My DS (age 7) hadn't grown in a year. Each year gaining less and less on the growth chart, until well you guessed it - he fell off the chart. I had been pushing the peds, but she kept saying that so long as he is growing a tiny bit he was still growing, blah blah blah. Some how she never connected...
  23. We were at our in-laws and I was reading a magazine ad for Quaker Rice Cakes, (sorry I don't have the magazine or the ad, its at MIL's). Anyway, the jist of the ad is Quaker is all excited b/c they are getting healthier add wheat to their products now. They didn't say which rice cakes, but I guess having just rice in the rice cakes wasn't healthy enough...
  24. My son (7) also had a negative blood test. We opted for the diet change and did not get the biopsy. He was on various meds to treat his symptoms. He had such a positive response to the diet, no more meds!! no more gas, bloating, chronic C. He also had slow/no growth in height and weight. He is improving in both areas. He is now a truly happy kid and...
