  1. I would say move on. Find another doctor. Its tough, we just went through it. Our last ped was more interested in treating the symptoms. When I told her that we decided to go gluten free - she said that the diet was a killer! Great support from a doctor who thought nothing wrong or difficult in giving my kiddos numerous medications to treat the symptoms...
  2. Hey Gang- Let's not forget how this topic started - we have a new mom with a newly diagnosed 6 yr old on board and she is looking for some help.... remember when you first found out by testing or not testing, through trial and error, diet, miserable doctor, etc etc. how difficult this can all feel in the beginning?! Let's help her and not make the...
  3. Hi- I have a question for this wonderful group... Quick history, this past fall, DS (7yrs) was tested (blood) and he tested negative. Although I still question whether or not he received the full panel. Went through a lot btwn the ped and the ped GI treating symptoms and not wanting to get to the issue. Basically, they kept telling us that he's just...
  4. Hi- Sorry, not sure about the temp, but if you are constipated watch if you are adding fiber to your diet. Benefiber contains wheat! We found this out with our son who has/had chronic constipation and wheat/gluten intolerance. Good luck on figuring it out. And congrat's on finding a doctor who is willing to help solve the mystery!
  5. You might want to double check the side effects on the Nasacort. We never used to check until DD was on a med to help her with reflux and one of the side effects was that the medication can cause nausea. Great huh? You can google Nasacort and see if it can cause headaches. His system might be reacting to the medication differently now that he is gluten...
  6. Just had to share ours with you too! We decided to try going gluten-free for our DS (age 7) October 08. Since this was a lifestyle change, I wanted to do it with him so that he wasn't in this all alone. DS had a negative blood test and we decided against the biopsy at this point. (we'll of course get if it there is a change - meaning that something else...
  7. Good Morning Foodiegurl- OMG - I forgot to tell you the best part about the gluten-free flours that I mentioned. No binders, no checking the weight, nothing!! You just pull out that old gluten recipe cookbook, pick your old favorite recipe and BAKE!! Now I will say that I have found that on occasion you do have to adjust the baking time, but I'm...
  8. Welcome aboard - it may seem at times that this is all really really difficult, and then one day you wake up and go "hey, I don't feel like crap any more!!" We have been gluten free for 5 months now and it is getting better every day. I wanted to let you know that you don't need to give up homemade snickerdoodles (well, okay you do have to change your flour...
  9. Thanks so much for all the suggestions! I will definitely be checking out the licorice. And we tried homemade chicken noodle soup tonight with the spaghetti noodles and that was a big hit. We will try for the canned chicken and rice next time we grocery shop. Thanks again- The Kids Folks
  10. Hi - We have recently started our DD (4yo) on a gluten free diet. We started our DS in October 08 and he is doing wonderfully. Our DD had GERD and reflux issues and we thought we'd try the diet on her and guess what - no more GERD or REFLUX!! And no more meds!! Instead we have one very happy non- medicated kiddo!! Woo Hoo! She is handling the gluten...
  11. AmyLeigh~ Congrat's to you and your son on your one year anniversary!! I have to say thanks to you for sharing your story. You and your son have been our inspiration (we started the gluten free lifestyle in October 08)! Thanks so much!! Hugs to you both! The Kids Folks
  12. I agree that its hard with those picky underweight kiddos. We have found that our 7 yo DS loves carnation instant breakfast. We give it to him a couple of times a day. We mix it with whole milk and some half and half. It truly does make the best hot chocolate!! He gets the choice if he wants it hot or cold. We've even sent it to school with him in a...
  13. Hi- We just use the Nestle Toll house cookie recipe on the chip bag with Tom Sawyer Gluten Free Flour. My 7 yr old DS decided that we needed to add Nestle white chocolate chips as well - The cookies come out awesome! (you might need to bake them a bit longer than the recipe calls for so just watch your first batch). Just make sure that all of your ingredients...
  14. Welcome aboard! It does seem overwhelming at first, but hang in there. Soon, it won't feel any different! In the beginning we pretty much avoided the bread products, but now DH has become quite good at making bread in the bread machine. Our whole house eats gluten free - including any guests that we might have over for dinner and no one can tell the difference...
  15. Okay so we've been WF/gluten-free since October and everyone in our house has adapted really well. My 7yr old DS is now thriving and growing - yeah up one pants size since October!! And has gained a over an inch in height. His weight however, has been somewhat odd. One day I am doing the happy dance b/c his is almost 46 lbs and then a week later his...
  16. Our 7 yr son's blood work was negative (although I still question whether or not our peds did the full panel). He had slow growth for years, bloating, gas and constipation. It wasn't until this last year his growth fell off the charts that I was able to convince our doctor that something was going on. She continued on the path of let's just treat the symptoms...
  17. Hi - we're 4 months new to the WF/gluten-free diet which has been wonderful!! Everyone is feeling so much better. I am wondering what folks know about mono and digycleride (sp?). Is it gluten containing or not? I read somewhere that it may/may not be wheat or corn based. I've read somewhere else that it is a concern if it is in dry food. I noticed...
  18. We've only used Tom Sawyer so far (gluten-free since October 08). None of our gluten friends can tell the difference. My 7 yr old made cookies for a Cub scouts bakeoff and won 3rd prize. The judges had no idea what gluten free meant but absolutely LOVED the cookies!!
  19. I meant to post this about a month ago, so I hope that they are still carrying them. DH and I were Christmas shopping at Toys R Us and we turned the corner and there in front of us was a whole aisle filled with kid friendly gluten-free Foods!! Who would have thought that Toys R Us would have food - much less the gluten free variety! They had lots of Enviro...
  20. Our 7 yrs old son's weight has been slow - or so we think he was chronically C so our ped's wasn't too concerned about what seemed like lack of weight gain. She said that b/c of the chronic C we probably weren't getting a true weight to begin with. We have been gluten-free since October and he has gained almost one and 1/4 inches so far. We have...
  21. Hi- From some of my other posts, you probably know that we went against the doctors wishes for a biopsy for our 7yr DS, who had been having C issues since he was 2 or 3. (he had a neg blood test - however, I don't think that it was a full panel) Following the ped and pedGI orders or son landed in the ER. We decided enough already mama bear knows best...
  22. Hi - quick note on flour... have you ever tried Tom Sawyer Gluten Free Flour? You can purchase it on line. It works just like the "mainstream gluten flour" cup for cup - well except you don't get sick from it. We cook all of our regular recipes from regular cookbooks and it tastes pretty much the same with very little to no grittiness!! In fact, lots...
  23. Hi - My 7yr son also had a neg blood test. So our pediatrician said that he didn't have it. We decided to go gluten free b/c we couldn't handle all of the meds for constipation anymore. He reacted POSITIVELY to the diet!! WOO HOO - no more constipation, he's growing, sleeping etc. Our ped's however, was quite snippy with me when I told her that we decided...
  24. Thanks for letting us know! We'll definitely try that one out. My dd is sooooo wanting pizza!!
  25. Hi - I'm fairly new to the board. Been gluten-free since October 11th and was finally starting to feel amazing!! I haven't been diagnosed medically (no blood work or biopsy) but all of my symptoms have vastly disappeared, no more insomnia, IBS, monthly "girl" issues, depression, brain fog, etc. I should say that I joined my 7 yr old son when he was having...
