ARCHIVED Gf Grains Besides Rice
BRCoats replied to BRCoats's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
t-berry, Hmmm.....I thought I had heard all sort of bad stuff about Bob's red mill....like cross contamination issues, etc. As far as other food intolerances, it would be easier to tell you what I CAN have instead of what I can't. So.... My basic diet is meat (mostly tuna, salmon, cod, some hamburger, and chicken), cheese (little bits), one... -

BRCoats replied to BRCoats's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
P.S. folks, Where do you get all of these grains?? Health food stores?? I don't recall seeing any...but then, I wasn't really looking either. ~Brenda -
ARCHIVED Gf Grains Besides Rice
BRCoats replied to BRCoats's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey t-berry, Thanks for the rundown on the list of grains. Sounds like there's lots of options out there!! I'm excited about trying them.....but doubtful. My diet is SO limited, and it's really hard to find something that agrees with me. But I'm SO bored with what I eat, and am trying to keep my weight up. I've eaten so many eggs....the other day...... -
ARCHIVED Gf Grains Besides Rice
BRCoats replied to BRCoats's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jenvan, Yes, I want to bake some bread, but rice really bothers me. I also need to find someone that makes the flour from these breads, but does not produce any other flours (or at least any other gluten containing flours). If it's made in the same place as gluten containing flours, I get deathly ill. So cross contamination is a biggie for me. I guess... -
ARCHIVED Gf Grains Besides Rice

Hey all, Does anyone have any experience with some of these other gluten-free grains, such as sorghum, quinoa, etc.? I am REALLY intolerant of rice, and wondered how these other grains taste. Also...in spite of it's name....buckwheat IS gluten free, yes? Thanks for any help. I'm getting desperate for a bread product. Haven't had one in almost a year... -
ARCHIVED Viactiv Multi-vitamins
BRCoats replied to BRCoats's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dear Brenda, Hey everyone, Below is Viactiv's response to my inquiry as to whether they are gluten free or not. I had one, and they are pretty yummy. I am pretty sick today, so I'm not sure if they really agree with me or not.....nothing does today!! But they definitely taste good. :-) HTH, Brenda --------------------------------------------... -
ARCHIVED Soy Delicious Frozen Dessert
BRCoats posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know if soy delicious products are gluten-free? I have the vanilla sitting in my freezer, just waiting to be consumed. :-) But I can't seem to find a definite answer anywhere. I will call them if nobody knows and let you know the outcome. I just thought I'd check here first (I hate talking on the phone!). TIA, Brenda -
ARCHIVED Thymus Gland Relation To Celiac Disease?
BRCoats posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have recently read articles stating that the thymus gland may be involved in celiac disease. I also read that when undergoing open heart surgery, the thymus is often removed. This shocked me because I had open heart surgery when I was 17, shortly followed by gut issues. If anyone has any GOOD info on the thymus, what it does, etc., I would be really grateful... -
ARCHIVED Viactiv Multi-vitamins
BRCoats posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Can someone tell me FOR SURE that these are gluten free? I read the archives, and saw that the calcium chews are gluten-free, but am unsure of the multi-vitamin. I purchased the tropical fruit splash flavor. As far as the ingredients that are listed, it looks ok.....and I checked their website, but it didn't have any info. Anybody know for sure??? Thanks... -
ARCHIVED Cloud Nine And Armour Sausage
BRCoats posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, Can anyone tell me if Cloud Nine chocolate bars are gluten-free? I looked on their website, but couldn't find a straight answer. Also, does anyone know if Armour Sausage links are gluten-free? THe kind you brown and serve. Thanks for any help, Brenda -
ARCHIVED Random Daily Torture...
BRCoats replied to sweetie101282's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Pastor Dave mentioned Pizza Hut AND Subway. I just came back from vacation with my extended family, who happened to eat both Pizza Hut and Subway while I was there. It was a major bummer!!! It smelled sooooo goood. I even went to pick up the Subway. AND I paid for it!!!! HAHAHA!!!! Well, at least my immediate family enjoyed it. Besides...they were having... -
Viactiv Calcium Chews
BRCoats replied to Jennifer126's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Where does one purchase these calcium chews? The name sounds familiar, but I don't recall seeing them anywhere. -
ARCHIVED Nordica Cottage Cheese
BRCoats replied to BRCoats's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's what I hate about this diet. It seems as if I'm not paranoid, I will get "glutened". Don't feel bad....all of us have had those moments. Mine was with Rice milk (Rice Dream - not gluten-free!). I drink soy milk, and yes, I drink it straight from the jug, because I'm the only one who drinks it. Anyway.....since the rice milk and the soy milk look so... -
ARCHIVED Nordica Cottage Cheese
BRCoats replied to BRCoats's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Duh!!! Didn't think of going to their website. I didn't see anything on the ingredients that could be harmful, but like I siad, I'm not very confident! Thanks Deb! Brenda -
Cowboy, Sounds like your wife and I have the same type of tongue. There's nothing wrong with the top of my tongue at all. But the sides get curly when I don't feel well. Very rarely will it all look normal. I don't think there's one set way the tongue looks with geographic tongue. It seems to vary.

ARCHIVED Nordica Cottage Cheese
BRCoats posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know if Nordica cottage cheese is gluten-free? I know there are other brands that are gluten-free, but I am a big fan of the Nordica. I looked on the ingredients, and it all looks fine to me....but I'm too new at this to feel very confident. Somtimes I wonder if I will EVER feel confident in just reading a label and knowing it's gluten-free or... -
ARCHIVED The "original" Celiac Diet?
BRCoats replied to BRCoats's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ruth, Why no salt and butter? Aren't those aloud on SCD? Also, I thought that sweet potatoes were not allowed? I have read that if you don't follow the diet very closely, it doesn't work....so maybe those things mentioned above could be why you don't feel well? Just wondering. Hope you feel better soon. Brenda -
I was born June 2nd....due on June 9th. I thought that when I entered the survey, the numbers would come back as a lot of June births. Hmmm....looks like most are not born in June. None of the other months corresponded with any of my childrens birth month. Mine was the only one. Go figure! Brenda

ARCHIVED David Sunflower Seeds/planters Chocolate Cashews
BRCoats replied to BRCoats's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Deb, It's another digestive problem that causes malnutrition. It's where your stomach doesn't empty any of the food out....or rather, it just takes FOREVER. So, as a result, you don't ever want to eat (although you get hungry). I eat like a bird because of it. But, I eat like a bird several times a day. It causes extreme nausea. Many folks will get tube... -
ARCHIVED The "original" Celiac Diet?
BRCoats replied to BRCoats's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Tiffany, Point well made. Everyone wants to make money off of the new fad (or specific diseases). Therefore out comes the processed foods. Seems like the SCD diet really backs away from eating processed foods and sugar. I think it's just a way to rebuild your gut, so in that respect, I think it sounds like a good thing. But it also sounds very difficult... -
Hi all, I've been researching the SCD diet (Breaking the Vicious Cycle). I see it has been referred to as the "original" celiac diet. No sugars, except for a few choice fruits and honey, etc. Does anyone know more about this? Could this be why some of us are not healing very well? I'd be very interested in your thoughts, and if you have researched the...

Woosh! That is a lot of sugar. But one (fake) Oreo a day is better than nothing. -
ARCHIVED Mi-del "chocolate Sandwich Cookies"
BRCoats replied to celiac3270's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh my word!!! My family eats Oreos in front of me all the time, and I think it's the ultimate torture!!!!! I would LOVE to get some Oreo-type cookies!! However....I AM trying to keep the sugar intake down. Do you know how much sugar they have per cookie? I don't think my Vitamin Cottage has them, or else I would have seen them. I've been up and down... -
ARCHIVED David Sunflower Seeds/planters Chocolate Cashews
BRCoats replied to BRCoats's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well...I only ate three. After posting that, I realized that I was probably having a reaction due to my gastroparesis, not the celiac disease. I still feel yucky today, but.....this too shall pass. -
Either that, or we are ALL crazy. HAHAHA!! Totally kidding of course!!
