  1. You could try a different nut meal maybe? Perhaps something in the grinding of the almonds is releasing something your body doesn't like? You could try hazelnuts - they make a nice "flour" meal too and taste similar to almonds. They grind nicely if frozen. AliB, you should be congratulated for always presenting such a cool, calm explanation of the...
  2. If you are a reading junkie like me, you might want to check out this new publication. I am not connected with these doctors at all, but I have been following their website blog for some time now: Open Original Shared Link The book is called The Gluten Effect - How "Innocent" Wheat is Ruining Your Health. Laurie
  3. Yes, I meant to say "Taste of the Wild" not "call of the wild" My dog loves this stuff! And the cats wolfed down their Before Grain food. I might have to rethink free choice for them if they get too fat I've always supplemented the dog and cat food with scraps of meat and bones and some veggies from our meals. It's funny but one thing I noticed...
  4. I am not on the SCD diet completely, because I don't have the intestinal issues that many have, but I do eat completely gluten-free and have really cut back on the casein. I just think the SCD diet is a healthy one in general, similar to the Paleo and Weston Price type recommendations. I bought the book and a recipe book that has absolutely delicious looking...
  5. I wasn't really sure where to put this topic, but I figured this was the best place. I decided to find some sources of gluten-free dog and cat food for my pets after reading the Dogtor J site and just using common sense about what these carnivores should be eating. My cats are farm cats - they spend most of their time outdoors - and most of my felines over...
  6. I had a reaction to a Thai Kitchen product as well (I can't remember the exact one, but it said gluten free). I am not very reactive to gluten, and this was a definite severe reaction. I had eaten their products before with no reaction. Here is a link to their allergy page: Open Original Shared Link Some of their products do have wheat in them so...

ARCHIVED Group Letter to Dr. Fine

I don't "worship" anyone, Neesee. I did my research thoroughly when I looked into his testing. He has not published, but there have been other published reports which do put validity into using stool tests for the identification of gluten antibodies. I paid my money and I got results which seemed to back up what was happening with me with regards to gluten...
  8. There is an Outback right by the Wegman's in Hunt Valley. I have eaten at Jesse Wong's in the same area with success. Wegman's has signs all over proclaiming that their food may be contaminated with allergens, but I have eaten there as well with no problems but I am not overly sensitive. There is a Chipotle there as well. There is a japanese restaurant...

ARCHIVED Group Letter to Dr. Fine

I think my reference was to the remarks that said a non-response by Dr. Fine automatically confirms his work cannot be defended. I disagree with that premise. It can mean that or many other things, like he is busy, or he doesn't care to answer, or he feels attacked, etc. The only thing it would prove is that he didn't answer the letter. I hope...

ARCHIVED Group Letter to Dr. Fine

Gentleheart, I think your post is awesome. I was dismayed to see the posts regarding the lack of response automatically condemning Dr. Fine. He may be very busy as you said, or he may not feel that he is responsible for answering a letter out of the blue. I was confused by some of the statements that said he got a letter from his "patients" because as...
  11. If you are worried about wheat in your chicken feed, you might try feeding them bird seed instead. I started buying 50 lb bags of bird seed for my chickens when I noticed that they were eating everything but the wheat grains in the chicken scratch feed I bought. The bird seed is a little more expensive, but my chickens have the run of the farm and they...
  12. Actually, the genes that link to celiac disease are probably some of the most unchanged genes. They were most likely present in the earliest ancestors and helped to boost an immune system exposed to all sorts of invaders. The problem is that wheat and other grain products were introduced at a fairly recent time in human history and very few populations...
  13. Long vs short lashes is a genetic trait. Long lashes are dominant, short are recessive. I doubt if they are connected to gluten intolerance, but if they are near each other on the same chromosome, it is possible that they tend to be inherited more frequently together. Apparently, eyelash length is related to allergies, so who knows?... Abstract...
  14. Unfortunately, this is an example of what happens in the real world. As a high school teacher with over 150 students in any given year, it is very difficult to make accomodations for each and every student. Nearly 30% of our students now have some sort of individualized education plan! There is not enough time in the day (or night) to individualize instruction...
  15. I, too, grew up in the country surrounded by farms and farmers and I have nothing but respect for those that actually work the land. The problem is in the agricutural industry and government lobbyists that work for them. These are not farmers but big businesses, who seek to promote their products in any way possible, including putting that product into...
  16. Here is a link to a site listing several articles that you can take to your doctor about neurological manifestations of gluten toxicity: Open Original Shared Link For myself, the primary way I respond to gluten is with migraines and brain fog. I teach high school and I thought I was starting to suffer from early Alzheimer's or at least getting old...
  17. You're right - I think I did put that these were rare side effects, but in Dylan's case these might be significant since he is experiencing several of these. People have experienced these effects often enough that they are listed as possible. Thanks for the correction, Laurie
  18. Dylan, These are side effects for klonipin: Rare: Abnormal thinking, including disorientation, delusions (holding false beliefs that cannot be changed by facts), or loss of sense of reality; agitation; behavior changes, including aggressive behavior, bizarre behavior, decreased inhibition, or outbursts of anger; convulsions (seizures); hallucinations...
  19. At no time in history have humans eaten the amounts of grains that we do now. It is all too apparent to the gluten sensitive just how many products contain grains, and products made from grains that contain gluten. I doubt if our early ancestors were ever exposed to as much grain in their daily diets as we have now. Bread is a chore to make and grinding...

    ARCHIVED The Gluten Doctors

Thank you, Lisa. Undoubtably we all have different backgrounds that influence our decisions. I think part of the problem or gap that occurs in this community is that some of us think of this as a disease and some of us think this is a response to a poison. I've not terribly interested in a diagnosis - I know I am sensitive to gluten genetically and I believe...

    ARCHIVED The Gluten Doctors

I think that these national organizations do a good job of educating people about celiac, but I do think some are ignorant of other gluten sensitivities. If they had responded that they didn't want to pass on the blog's information because they did not believe in gluten sensitivity, that is their perogative. From personal experience with family, I certainly...

    ARCHIVED The Gluten Doctors

Yes, Momma Goose, an "upcoming book" automatically makes this group suspect, just like Enterolab and Dr. Fine who has the audacity to charge for his tests. Yet, blind faith in a conservative medical community, most of whom won't even acknowledge that gluten sensitivity exists, is supported by a national celiac organization. Yes, let's always wait until...
  23. I found this site some time ago. These doctors believe in gluten sensitivity and alternate forms of identifying gluten sensitivity, such as Enterolab. How I wish they were in my area and not all the way across the country. The first post about neurological effects is interesting, but the second post down is even more so. How dismaying to think that a...
  24. I second that if you want something quick from the freezer, Belle and Evans chicken strips are all white meat and are very good. They are raw, so make sure you cook them thoroughly in the oven. And there are two versions, gluten free and not, so check the package carefully. Laurie
  25. This is a big issue on this forum. I, personally, found that the Enterolab test was very important for me because it confirmed what I already knew to be the truth - that I had a problem with gluten. In addition, it pinpointed a problem with casein, which was the key to ending my lifelong migraines. I knew the gluten-free diet was helping my health, but...
