  1. Definitely get an oven thermometer and see if your oven temperature is accurate. I had that problem until I purchased a thermometer and found out my oven was off by about 20 degrees. Once I compensated for that, my baking times are pretty much where they should be.
  2. Yes, I lost weight. I dropped 50 lbs over the course of the first year or so. The weight loss stabilized on it's own. I just stopped losing once I reached a certain weight, even though I didn't make any further changes. I've maintained for almost 2 years now. I've seen a few other comments on here from people who said that they couldn't lose weight prior...
  3. My test was negative as well, but I react very strongly to gluten. Within 20 minutes, I am nauseated and in serious pain, and it lasts for several days. I was pretty sure it was food that was making me sick and I figured out with a food diary that the more gluten foods I ate, the worse I felt, so tested my theory with my own elimination diet like you did...
  4. I have, and it was great. I didn't call in advance, so they didn't have any bread on hand for me, which was a bummer, but I learned my lesson on that! Next time I am in an area that has one, I definitely will call so that they will have some bread for me. The waiter knew what gluten was, and when he brought the bread basket for my husband, he carefully placed...
  5. I haven't had an issue at our local Chick-fil-a, but I did verify before ordering the first time I went there that they use a dedicated fryer for the fries. When you say your husband says they use the same oil, are you saying that at the location your husband worked at that they re-cycled the oil that they fried the breaded items in and re-used it in the...
  6. I just obtained copies of my medical file, and in it was my results for my celiac test. I was given one blood test, described as TTG, Ab, IgA Reference range < 20 Interpretive Data: Tissue Transglutaminase Antibody, IgA Results: Normal That was the only test I was given. Was my testing incomplete, or should that have been enough to go on...
  7. Check the Kroger Sour cream? I know it has a long list of ingredients. Sorry you are not feeling well!
  8. I bring my own bottle of gluten-free soy sauce, and stick to nigiri sushi, sashimi or simple maki rolls that don't contain any extra mystery sauces.
  9. We ate at one in Colorado Springs and loved it. I had pizza. And they didn't have any bread for me, but we didn't call ahead either. Next time I will because I would have loved something to dip in that olive oil! I loved it and would definitely eat there again.
  10. I have had several very good experiences with RR at the Escondido mall, most recently in November. The staff actually seems to care about allergy issues and I have never been treated like I am a burden, which is a nice change! It is one of the few places I feel safe eating at.
  11. Yes, I have issues with this. The spasms are so painful that they double me over and take my breath away. They last about a minute for me, though it may as well be an eternity. The pain for me is primarily in the center of my chest. Once they start , I am done eating, because they will continue to happen with every bite. I don't know if it is related to celiac...
  12. I am seeing more and more foods labeled gluten free at Costco, which is encouraging. Unfortunately, I think some of what they carry varies by where you live, and even store to store, so this may or may not be helpful. We have 3 Costco's within 15 miles and I have found different things at every one of them. (california) When I find something I like, I stock...
  13. Sorry you are feeling anxious! I understand that feeling well. I was DX with generalized anxiety disorder about 8 years ago, but I had problems with it for much longer than that. Xanax has really been the only thing that worked for me when I was going through a rough patch. Everyone reacts differently to medication. I had no side effects from it, and took...
  14. I can understand that feeling. I feel strange having to ask anyone to do anything special for me, and I know how demanding any job dealing with the public is, and maybe especially in the restaurant business. I have eaten out with people who are horrendously picky and it always embarrasses me. I always felt guilty by association, so to speak. So now, I have...
  15. I actually have that kind of reaction to caffeine... and so does my mother. But as far as places that are easy to be accidentally glutened, I think McDonald's is around the top of the list. Sorry you are not feeling well.
