  1. These are urgent, the need to sit/lay/lean against something right away with inability to keep eyes open. Many times a day, every day of gluten symptoms. Usually only lasts a few minutes, and comes out of nowhere. Before going gluten-free, sudden sleepiness spells sometimes preceded a black out/collapse, lasting seconds - minutes. gluten-free or not,...
  2. Many people talk about eating out anywhere, ever, as if it spells out certain doom. I hope it doesn't sound too presumptuous.. But it seems the difference between the celiacs who can and cannot eat out, is how assertive (while polite) they are willing to be with an establishment.. Rather than just blaming the establishments, shouldn't you take part of the...
  3. If "Some people are in denial, and won't read it," is the only down side, I'd have to agree the forum is a great idea. I'd love a place to discuss the highest level of safety of any products! the current subforums don't get me answers to some of the most seemingly simple CC questions.. Thread vrs forum depends on how many of us are actually here....
  4. You're misunderstanding; When I said cross-contamination, I meant the brand Arrowhead Mills produces both gluten and gluten-free foods on the same line, which makes many (but not all) celiacs sick. Xanthum gum is a binding agent used in many gluten-free breads. it is naturally gluten free. It's rare to be allergic to it.. even for celiacs. Blue cheese...
  5. Sadly, I think you must be right. I can't think of any explanation. I even emailed the,m to be sure they are a genuinely gluten-free dedicated line. Guess I just can't have Glutino.
  6. My family tries to be, but does tend to assume I'm "over-cautious" too often for comfort. They often inadvertently contaminate me. To my surprise, rather than treating me like a freak, all of my friends are not only accepting, but downright protective! When going new places, they make sure I bring or can get food, and make a point to keep anyone scarfing...
  7. Arrowhead mills has made me sick every single time I have had their products. It is all cross-contaminated to some degree. Bob's is 100% gluten-free unless someone tampers with it, but if you had dairy/soy (pizza=cheese?) more people (almost all celiacs) react to that than Xanthan. Chocolate is another common allergen to look into, too.
  8. I just eat flax in snack form - Foods Alive brand flax crackers, they are a common ingredient in many Enjoy Life foods, too. I love casava (yuca root - tapioca flour) for weight gain. I only tried a little so far, but plan to make it a regular part of my diet. I would eat rice more if I had a rice cooker, don't know if it helps me gain weight, but...
  9. What brand were these products?
  10. I don't react to Bob's Red Mill gluten-free corn muffin mix, which contains that, so couldn't be.
  11. What products are and are not safe always seems like such a debate here. Some people can actually eat a crumb of wheat bread, while that would shock most of us. Some can tolerate up to 20ppm, many up to 10ppm, some as little as 5ppm.. But what about those of us who can't even tolerate <3 ppm?? It's not just labels and companies that have been pissing...
  12. Here are some recently confirmed dedicated gluten-free lines, also free of soy and dairy; Bounty, Charmin, Puffs "paper" products Savonnerie lotions, soaps, etc Softlips chapstick Loreal Feria hair color Alegra(including generic), Advil, Vicks (excludes cough drops) medicines Deerpark, Desani water Pom pomegranate, V8, Juicy juice Folgers,...
  13. Someone suggested that to me months ago, when I first noticed reactions to Glutino products, but I am positive corn does not bother me; I can eat it in any form, even bake things from corn flour myself. I'm also not allergic to rice, and I am not positive I have a soy allergy (just avoid it to be safe).
  14. Thank you, but that was the first thing I checked, and it was not the problem.
  15. I read that, but it's too far from a direct answer. Do they make some products containing gluten? If so do they produce them on separate equipment? Do they at any point come in contact with anything containing gluten? When they say gluten-free do they just mean it in the legally acceptable form of below a certain measurable number? -Rule of thumb : Assume...
  16. Their website is very wordy/cluttered and confusing. I can't find anything about how they prevent CC, implying they don't prevent it.
  17. This statement makes it sound like they are not free of CC. I took Nature Made 3 years ago and they made me very sick. Either they are unsafe, or changed their formula.
  18. I have added to my diet; Flax seeds, eggs, more olive oil, Bob's Red Mill muffins, and occasional rice. It must be helping, because I've gained 4lbs! I tried but can't stomach yams or sweet potatoes. Too sweet/rich. I have to look more into nuts. I'm afraid caffeine is negating some of my calories.. Does it work that way?
  19. Every gluten-free vitimin I have found so far.. Had cross-contamination. Sense everyone here seems to be on a good multi + additional aids for celiac healing (like B and D), someone here must know of a good gluten-free brand with no CC?
  20. Yes, I have a 100% gluten-free kitchen, even my paper towels are gluten-free. There is no chance for CC in my toaster or oven, and their cereal also makes me feel bad.
  21. I have learned that despite how tasty they may be.. Amy's brand is NEVER to be trusted. If you have any level of sensitivity to gluten, know that Amy's products are not truly gluten-free, even if the item clearly lists no gluten ingredients, it's still contaminated. The frozen dinner bowls, and canned soups, are what did me in. I had the same problem...
  22. It seems like every time I eat a seemingly-safe Glutino brand item, i start feeling sick. Their bread, cereal, and everything else sets me off. They have soy in many of their products, but I don't buy those, and I don't react to trace amounts of dairy so it's unlikely for soy. Does anyone else have a reaction to their products? What causes the reaction...
  23. In OTC meds category, I take tylonal cold & flu when needed, which I think is gluten-free but you may want to double-check. In herbal terms, Yin Chiao chinese herb available at health stores has worked wonders for my colds, and there are many brands available, so be careful and check the label.
  24. Cashews! I also only reacted to the ones with cashews (didn't try peanut butter) - Larabars are not organic so it is possible for some "nut contamination," from the suppliers.
  25. I take One 'n' Only (brand : Pure Essence Labs), which I thought were a great food-based, gluten-free, soy, corn sugar, yeast, and general allergen free multi.. But it lists "Barley and Oat Grass Juice [40:1 Concentrate]", as a seemingly lesser ingredient. Are they really gluten-free?
