  1. I wouldn't say I've had a complete recovery, but I have not even been the diet a full year, and I hear the more severe cases can take 2 years. I did go from being unable to leave my home, to just having short spells of sickness most days that do not prevent me from going out and doing whatever I want whenever I want. So in less than 1 year, I went from incapacitated...
  2. Ahh, I love the information here! I do get skin reactions, and gut reactions, but I get other symptoms, too. I believe I have genuinely been glutened both ways, and MayoClinic has a horrible history with celiacs, if I'm not mistaken. I openly avoid touching most public surfaces (tend to cover all possible skin i.e. light jackets, leggings) or even other people...
  3. Oh no, potatoes and soy are a problem for me. :c It's a good thing I waited before trying the bottle I bought. On the phone, they told me some shampoos and conditioners they sell do now contain gluten, so they must have changed their formulas.
  4. Nature Made actually makes me sick, but Kirkman works great, especially for anyone with additional allergies, vegans, etc. They are also so much cheaper than other organic vitamins, and many regular vitamins. They even sell trial sizes. I order mine online, so I don't know where they're sold in stores.
  5. Thank you for the info Sailing girl. I have heard henna is very messy, and I am Native American so my hair is kind of weirdly resilient. Water tends to "fall over it" in staid of getting wet into it, I can't really style it, and only the strongest dyes even take to it (feria faded significantly after 2-3 weeks). All of that considered, I have been...
  6. My significant other is afraid to use shampoo other than my own, because I won't go near him. At Wegmans, they placed the deli next to the organic section, which contains their Gluten Free section.. and I have to hold my breath or cover my mouth/nose with my cloths to go in that general area. (People tend to stare.) I usually can't get close to anyone wearing...
  7. Sense it seems there is no semi-universally safe hair color, especially for those with multiple allergies or super sensitive celiac, shouldn't there be some kind of how-to guide? If you know of any ways to make your own hair color, or have any ideas you think someone else may be able to refine, please post here. My initial thought is.. Extracts...
  8. I had not heard good things about herbatint. The company is very hard to contact, and no one seems to know much about it.. The fact that their conditioner has gluten makes me all the more weary. Because of how severe my reactions are, I am not willing to tough/use anything that may contain CC.
  9. Nutribiotic is great! I feel like I just hit the mother load. This stuff is so much cheaper than what I was getting before, and they have all sorts of options : shampoos, shampoo/body-washes, and the facial cleanser you mentioned. They told me all of their products are gluten-free, but some may be produced on shared equipment in other places, so anyone...
  10. I want to screeeeeam! Garnier told me over the phone "Some of our products contain the ingredient and others don't" This shocked me, because of Garnier's reviews here on the site. Who started the rumor that Garnier was safe for sensitive celiacs and based on what? Did they tell someone before that all of their shampoos were gluten-free? Did they change...
  11. Ah, safe hair dye is a must for any "hair toucher," when you bring up residue. Another residue problem - Not everything washes off of your hands so easily. Also, what is that powder in those gloves they put in the dye kits? It irritated my hands to no end.
  12. L Glutamine is available now, at most health stores and some grocery stores. Some celiacs swear by it. But it is not equivalent to taking Lactaid when your lactose intolerant - It does not make eating gluten okay, more like damage control.
  13. It's always an uphill battle when your telling someone "Oh, by the way, bread slowly kills me, and crumb can incapacitate me for a week." even if they can wrap their heads around the basic concept, it goes on to the more complex stuff "I can't eat anything that has touched anything that has touched wheat at any point, even if it's been washed." "I can't use...
  14. I've come to expect 1-3 posts like this in every thread I start about the safety of an item.. and I post a lot of those threads. It does make me think twice before posting, whether I find an item to be unsafe, or simply have a question, but in the end this is the only online community to find answers from, so I get over it. It makes me laugh to imagine someone...
  15. Thank you for the information, Nancy. Oh tell me about it! I finally made my diet clean.. only to realize CC was also an issue in topical items. I could swear the sticky part of a bandaid glutened me. Wheat in the glue? I just emailed the company and asked if their equipment was CC-free, and will wait for their response before 'playing with fire...
  16. All of the information is so complicated and scientifically worded, I can't figure out how to tell if I have DH or not. First, I react to gluten that is not consumed, more than just topically, and there are conflicting claims to whether or not that is even possible. One possibility offered was "DH people react to topical gluten exposure." Here are the...
  17. It wasn't an allergy, I had a standard gluten reaction. I have known allergies, but the reaction is very different. I have also never had an allergic reaction to any other hair dyes I have used in the past. It is possible for anything that touches your hands or face to get into your mouth/nose and be swallowed, even if only in trace amounts, even if you...
  18. It does not contain "any gluten ingredients" .. Yet all 3 times I used it, I had extreme reactions. While the dye was in my hair I had a bad headache, and was rather lightheaded. After washing it out, and once again when using it's conditioner a week later, I had a "gluten episode." I don't know how, or in which part, but there is some kind of gluten...
  19. I seem to producing minimal anti-gluten blood things, but having extreme symptoms. After 6 months (now at 10 months) of a gluten-free diet that was not even close to free from CC, with recurrent accidental glutenings, my blood work came back perfect. IGA and all. Pre-gluten-free I was never (officially) deficient of vitimins, but I had developed joint...
  20. I do not believe abnormally loud digestion is a sign of a healthy system. Because I have such extreme reactions to even the smallest traces of gluten, it was easy for me to identify my stomach only makes noises when I've been "contaminated" somehow. It is possible, if your stomach is still making noises, your getting cross-contaminated. Slippery elm...
  21. I normally order gluten-free shampoo online (gfsoap.com), but the last thing I ordered never even shipped, and it's pricey, so I'm very tired of dealing with it. I am wanting to find a regular drug/grocery store available item in USA, that is dedicated gluten-free : Not companies that "clearly label ingredients" - that don't use any gluten on the equipment...
  22. I just found out, for pains and tummy problems, the best way to take marijuana may be to drink it as a tea. I am definitely going to look into this, after the positive responses from those of you who have found it so helpful. I also looked it up, and confirmed, Celiac is covered as one of the conditions medical marijuana can be sold for (where legal,...
  23. I just tried using it, have not eaten out in two weeks, only eat fresh meat fruits vegetables and a few dedicated products. Accidentally swallowed a little, and had a very severe gluten reaction to the mouthwash, I'm sure.
  24. Everyone so far has said "smoke" pot.. But isn't that the less logical way to use it medically? Eating marijuana (with something oily) is actually a lot safer, easy to dose, and actually has long-term health benefits. Many people don't even seem to realize marijuana is edible, if they did, I have to wonder if they anti-smoking lung cancer crowd would even...
  25. It was a medical question, not a moral question. Some of us can't cope without medical aid, like Ibuprofen, sleep medicine or caffeine, herbs like Slippery Elm, etc. If you don't need anything of the sort, good for you.
