ARCHIVED Capsule Study Of The Small Intestine
rubyred replied to Kathy Mac's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
hmm, I'm sorry you've been back and forth to so many tests with no answers! It's sooo frustrating! One thing to be thankful for is your doctor(s)....they seem to be taking you seriously and really trying to find an answer - not just saying, "it's IBS" or "it's stress." I think so many people don't have a definite diagnosis when they decide to go... -
ARCHIVED Can Celiac Be A Cause For Gastritis?
rubyred replied to dizzygrinch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My endoscopy showed mild blunting of my villi and inflammation of my gastric mucosa....and my GI doc told me I have "chronic gastritis." I wasn't diagnosed with Celiac but went gluten free anyway. I'm having my biopsy slides looked at by another, more knowledgable doctor and will be getting the results back soon. I'll let you know when I find out! I don... -
AliB - that is very interesting what you said about our bodies not being able to digest carbs particularly well. I caught my celiac fairly early; my villa were only mildly blunted and I had mild malabsorption. But I was suffering from major GI symptoms, mainly excessive gas, D, bloating, etc. Since cutting out gluten (about 7 months), I've definitely...

ARCHIVED My Stomach Is Really Loud
rubyred replied to mindiloo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have this too, but it's mostly after I eat. Before going gluten-free, it used to be really bad. It was so embarassing! Now, it still happens sometimes and I get anxiety over it. Just today, I was eating lunch at my desk and after my stomach started making digesting noises, which sometimes can sound like gas.....totally embarassing! Thankfully it happens... -
ARCHIVED Capsule Study Of The Small Intestine

I know exactly how you feel! When my GI told me I don't have Crohn's, I was honestly a little sad because I really thought I had my answer and I was done searching. Obviously I'm happy I don't have a chronic illness either haha but searching for a definitive diagnosis is clearly quite difficult and stressful! So many of my tests have come back negative as... -
ARCHIVED Capsule Study Of The Small Intestine
rubyred replied to Kathy Mac's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Kathy, Definitely keep us updated! Your story is actually very similar to mine. I've been to a few different GIs and had numerous tests. At first I was told IBS in addition to stomach ulcers about 6 years ago. Then 2 years ago, I had more testing done because of increased symptoms (gas, bloating, D, etc). My new GI suspected crohn's. She found... -
Not to single anyone out, but I noticed sbj said in a previous thread that he is a silent celiac. Perhaps your view would be different if you went through years and years and years (etc) of being horribly sick and noone being able to tell you what is wrong. I see that you usually say "I hope you don't have Celiac" in your replies. I can appreciate that...

ARCHIVED Are There Various Levels One Can Tolerate Gluten Without Symptoms?
rubyred replied to rubyred's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
SBJ - I think you are misinterpreting what I am saying. Or I'm not being clear enough. Trust me, I am very aware of the dangers of a Celiac eating even half a crumb of gluten. As I said in my original post, I know there is internal damage being done any time gluten is ingested, no matter how much, period. My question was - is it possible for someone... -
ARCHIVED Are There Various Levels One Can Tolerate Gluten Without Symptoms?
rubyred replied to rubyred's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for your responses! Jestgar - I think I was asking more if a Celiac can eat small levels of gluten and not react. I know there is always CC risks, unfortunately. I still use the toaster that my roommates toast bread on. Not ideal, I know but I don't seem to react to that CC. (any other Celiacs out there that are less sensitive?) But thank... -
I've heard of Celiacs who are extremely sensitive and react to extremely small amounts of gluten and CC. I've also heard of (silent) Celiacs who don't react, or at least show no outward symptoms when exposed to gluten. I'm aware that internal damage is still being done, even if there are no symptoms felt. My question is - is there a middle ground?...

So I have an appointment with Dr. Fasano in Feb. I have already been to 2 other GIs, but really want to get a second opinion on my endoscopy and biopsies that were taken last year. Has anyone been to him? What should I expect? Are the appointments short because he is so busy or does he give you ample time to discuss everything? I'm nervous that he won...

I believe there is a connection, in my opinion at least. I missed my period for about 5 months prior to going gluten free (when my gluten intolerance symptoms were probably the worst in my life). I was tested for Celiac through one blood test (not the panel) and an endoscopy; my doctor said I didn't have Celiac but offered no other help (I'm getting a second...

ARCHIVED 2 Articles In Baltimore Examiner
rubyred replied to happygirl's topic in Publications & Publicity
Thanks for the articles! I actually just made an appointment to see Dr. Fasano - on Feb 24th. I am going to get records of my previous endoscopy for him to look over. I'm very excited!! It's nice to read that he believes in the gluten spectrum, so even if he says I dont have Celiac, he will take my symptoms and diet response seriously! -
I'm from Baltimore! I live in Canton and am planning on running the 5k this year...I'm so excited!! I'm new to the gluten-free life so I didn't run in the previous years. I ate at Red Star in Fells recently and they were very accomodating. I had a salad with salmon (balsamic dressing). They didn't put any sauce or anything on the salmon. It was really...

ARCHIVED Help With Endoscopy Results
rubyred replied to rubyred's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I believe he took 6, but I'm not positive. I live in Baltimore, so I'd love to see Dr. Fasano, but I'm sure there's a pretty big waiting list and I'm not sure if he would take my insurance. I'll have to look into it though. I guess the wait isn't an issue, because I'm already gluten free and he would just be looking over my reports. Hmmm, I'll... -
ARCHIVED Blood Work For Vitamin/mineral Deficiencies
rubyred replied to Roda's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think it would be beneficial to get full bloodwork done. Just to check your levels, even if you are already gluten free. It's also good to get a baseline count, so then you can compare future bloodwork to your baseline to see if you are where you need to be (in regards to the diet). Rinne - are the blood tests for B12 standardized? I got bloodwork... -
ARCHIVED Help With Endoscopy Results
rubyred replied to rubyred's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just curious Ravenwood - is it the mild blunting of villi that makes you think it's a positive biopsy? From what I've read, other intolerances, like soy or casein, can cause blunting? I think your idea is great though, and I am planning on getting copies of my biopsies and finding a new doctor!! Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Help With Endoscopy Results
rubyred replied to rubyred's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you so much for your replies. They are very helpful. My response on the diet was immediate and unbelievable! Within 2 days, my main symptoms subsided. I was at the point that I couldn't be around people because my gas was that bad. ugh. But literally, almost instantly, I felt soo much better. I have eaten gluten a few times after going gluten... -
ARCHIVED Help With Endoscopy Results
rubyred replied to rubyred's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My doctor never even suggested I try to eliminate gluten to see if I felt better. She never commented on the abnormal findings of my endoscopy....just said that I have chronice gastritis/esophagitis and gave me prescription meds (that I never got filled). At the time, I didn't know that much about Celiac so I wasn't prepared to ask further questions. Now... -
ARCHIVED Help With Endoscopy Results
rubyred posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Last year I received a blood test for Celiac as well as an endoscopy. The blood test was negative (I didn't get the Celiac panel unfortuntely). The results from the endoscopy were: "...The gastric mucosa was somewhat atrophic with petechial type erythema. The duodenal mucosa was normal expect some mild blunting of villi at the second portion of the duodenum...
